I just moved to a MacBook Pro about 3 months ago. In addition to the points already mentioned, multi-touch is a huge factor for staying. And then all those *nix utilities that are built in.
My MBPro is definitely not the lightest so I’m probably going to change over to Air soon. There are still a few applications that they don’t make for Macs, like Quickbooks etc, so I still need to have my PC laptop (on the same hand not many viruses for the Mac so I miss those too )

You only pay money to Apple when you want to use their services. If you don’t want to use their services, you don’t pay them.

If you should be able to use the device any way you wish, then you can always throw on Bootcamp and forget about OSX.
See, Apple allows you to do that! They even give you Bootcamp software for free.

ok so your saying if you dont want to use itunes then delete the operating system the device is factory installed on. Sounds great. How good is bootcamp compared to OSX or Windows 7? Have you tried that on the ipad? Do Apple supply you with an alternative operating system or do you shell out £50 to microsoft? or Pirate Bay? Or Linux?
Ferrrari do not say you cannot drive on certain roads, you are free to drive and carry any passenger without restriction. You buy an ipad and the only way (without breaking the terms and conditions) to store and view videos and mp3 easily is via itunes with your credit card registered.

There’s plenty of competition. My point is people will do what they want to do.

No one said it was wrong I called it what I think it is. examples like Apple giving you bootcamp to change the OS are lame, its like Ferrari giving you a set of spanners so you could chnage the engine if you wish. Think about that one.
Some people don’t know, or don’t care learn, about how to tweak their computers. For them, a Mac makes sense. You may also just like the way it’s designed.
However, a PC with the same specs as a Mac can be up to $1,000 cheaper. That’s inexcusable. Apple charges more just because they can. They’ve built a brand and people identify with it but I wouldn’t pay that much more for a tool (a computer is just a tool, not a fashion statement).
Apple’s OS is more stable for sure, but Apple has complete control over hardware and software. No wonder it works more reliably. On the other hand, if you know how to use a computer, Windows rarely crashes.
There was a study that showed that for Mac users, the same areas of the brain that are stimulated when viewing religious scripture or pictures, are stimulated when they look at their Macs. Make of that what you will.
Like people have said, get it if you want it. I’m just annoyed by people who buy into the whole “hipster” image, and think that owning a Mac makes them unique - yeah, you and the millions of other Mac users. At my age, there are a lot of people like that so excuse the rant.
The fact that you won’t pay that much for a tool has no bearing on the capability or quality of said tool. Y’know?
I love PC’s and I’ve always owned them alongside Macs recently and I think both have their own little quirks that makes us like one or the other. It is what it is.
Agreed, I don’t think my PC Laptop or Macbook Pro has ever crashed. Maybe back in the day I used to get the BSOD but its been forever since that’s happened. So yeah, the user is a big determinant on how the machine ends up performing.
I don’t know what to draw from that, people are passionate about their choices I guess? And yeah there are some crazy arse fanboys but then again that goes for everything. Literally!

Looks cost money. Sony has sexy designs and they charge you for it. Asus came out with a MacBook Air replica (Zen) and its about the same price as the Air. That’s always been a given.
Mac’s do have their benefits. Just the multi-touch itself adds a few hundred dollars worth of value. Having the ability to use the unix kernel too. In my years of computing I haven’t felt as carefree opening unknown emails.
Sorry to put a downer on your happyness but Mac OS / unix in not immune to viruses, trojans and other threats. Eventually, every OS gets hacked and exploited.
