why do pushtoons/pathans want to be associated with afghanistan and not pakistan? i'll tell you why. because afghans are known to be fair-skinned. thats it. thats all. no political reasons behind it. the afghans will never accept pakistani pathans as their brothers but the pakis just pledge blind allegiance to them. they've infiltrated peshawar and turned it into a dump...not to mention the prostitution has increased...the scandalous dating scene has emerged (go peek behind one of the curtains in jani cone, saddar), and they still go on about how they are proud afghans and brave afghans etc etc. i am from nwfp and i pledge my allegiance to pakistan. all these guys who are writing about wanting to join their afghan brothers are sitting in comfy houses behind expensive laptops. go ask the local fisherman in mardan if he wants to unite with his afghan brothers...

Because if Pashtuns were unified there would've been a unified/central Pashtun leadership that would have pleaded Pashtun case and safegaurded Pashtuns interests. They most probably would've ensured that there is peace on Pashtun Land.
There are other reasons as well; Pashtuns would have been more prosperous because they would have had control over their resources and potentials e.g. ultra-strategic location, hydroelectric power generating potential, tourism potential, land development potential, minerals, forests, trade routes, water resources, etc. Pashtun Land is also in proximity to Caspian Basin and Iran and provides routes for transporting oil and gas from these regions to Indian Ocean, Hindustan, or China. Pashtun Culture and Language would have flourished. One further reason is, there is more Pashtun population to the East of Durand but more land to the west of the Durand divide for the demographies to distribute. Also Pashtuns wouldn't have the "White Elephant" to feed and would be concerned with peace and human development only. There would most likely have been free trade.
Foremost Pakistan has little capacity to change from a Ranjit Singhi state-model to a genuine federation.

Most of us have started adopting Punjabi lifestyles. There's nothing wrong with wanting to preserve ones identity aye? I myself am so lost. I can actually read urdu but not pakhto, can relate to ludhi but not attan.
I love Pakistan just as much as I love Pakhtuns. But there are some questions that bother me as why we are being robbed of our resources as Last wror stated?

Why are Pashtuns throughout Pakistan happy to pay pay taxes to Pakistan, to join the Frontier Force, and to join the paramilitary groups like South Waziristan rifles?
There's never been any kind of uprising or resistance in Peshawar, the biggest concentration of Pashtuns in the world.

Thats quite funny, robbed of ur resources, what resources do you have? If government of Pakistan stops smuggling of wheat to Afghanistan all Pashtus will die in 1 month.
What did you achieve with resources that u have in the times of Taliban?
What is the contribution of NWFP to state GDP?
What is the contribution of NWFP to art, science and culture of Pakistan?
You can still happily 'practice' ur own culture in NWFP that is culture of giving ur women to ur enemies for settling blood dispute, culture of murders on petty issues and culture of lending money on interest.

That's a valid point, i would never want to lose contact with my culture but why are you adopting punjabi lifestyle???? I have been to many of my pashtun friends houses (not in Pakistan but Australia) and their lifestyle is 100% PASHTUN, their food, music, decoration , furniture etc reflect purely PASHTUN culture.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to preserve ones identity BUT do you think your identity can only be preserved by living in Afghanistan????In that case, why would you ever move to a western country???( I am assuming you are in western country yourself so why not move back home???)

Unlike you, Lastwror doesn't like a thing about Pakistan.
Religion should be the MOST important thing for you and we share the same religion, then comes our secondary identity i.e nationalty and we share that as well, third and last identity is Pastun, Punjabi, Sindhi, balochi etc. ( But that's not how everyone thinks, You may want to be a Pashtun before you are a Pakistani).

Buds I am patriot Afghan/pakhtun, and if thats irks you well tough. I am sick and tired of seeing only war in our areas, whether commies, islamists, west were behind it. I don't care, and since we are such a terrible situation I will only be loyal to my Afghanan/pakhtana. Religion is all great but none of these countries are islamic, and until then forgive me for my bluntness but I am not going to buy this religious speeches. Don't get me wrong I am muslim through and through but its not unislamic to defend my people.

i want to be a good Muslim but when i saw the realty on the ground then it make me believe there is no such thing as a good Muslim.
I know and understand what you are saying and frankly there are genuine points and reasons for grievances but are these really reasons enough to break our ties. I am not for one moment saying that there is no heavy handedness offcourse there is as far as i am concerned the name NWFP doesnt make sense either name it what you want my brother but the bottom line is if you feel your father treats your brother differently than he treats you would you leave the family or try yo sort out why that is happening. I know and agree that all provinces are not treated the same and so would lot more pakistanis but what should we do about it.........?? we can go our own way or we can fight the system as one change it and bring the real representatives to power......Trust me ordinary man is not better of in any province than ordinary man in any other.........Its up to people like you and me to remove the base less hatred and bring some real objectivity to our thoughts and ambitions for this country.........Dreams optimism whatever you call it my friend i see this is the only way forward not severing our ties and be enemies.

sorry but i cant break my own family to be a part of your family this doesnt make sense..you want to divide pashtuns on no clear bases..this division has brought nothing but miseries to our people ,you can check through our past and our present..our safety and security is in our unity only with our own kind..sorry but why should i care for my neighbours when my own family is going through difficult time?..
pashtuns are afghans wether you all like it or not but this is the truth, and they were divided by the british..no true pashtun will ever accept this division..period
