pristpine, i will be first to objectively admitt positive things we (desies) can learn from america and its culture. but seriously, rape stats here arent any better. perhaps i should dig up some for you.. but you can save me the hastle and google it. was it NY that recently had cases of day rapes… on some parade?

dope brings up a legit point about treatment of ‘older’ ppl here in US thats something we desies do better back home. even most americans will tell you that. but, hey you wish a life in a old house where ur kids might come see you on christmas if they have time then i hope it comes true. but i will pray someone has the mercy to move you before a storm and does not forget to tighten your oxygen cylinders. that certainly will be a horrible way to go.

its much more than that…

Not true lady. A qualified pharmacist would earn between ~18-24k as a B-grade in hospital. Add a few more grand for a community pharmacist. Every year your salary will bump up by couple of grand so you can reach 30k in a few years time, after tax. But a freshly qualified pharmacist would only earn 30k if they were locuming.

Impulse, from what I remember, her husband was also a doctor - a surgeon, in fact. Why the two of them fought, I dont know.

I was told once that nuerosurgeon females have the highest divorce rates.

That doesn’t mean every career out there is like neurosurgery. You should be smart in your career planning - spend your time, your money, your brainwork, your labor, other people’s money (scholarships, ta-ships, etc) wisely.

If you dont plan on working at all, I dont think you should be taking these seats.

As for using a pharm degree for making sure the doc gives you the right medicine…dont tell me that’s what you told your admissions committee!

the fact that there are lawyers in society is already a tell tale sign that qayamat is upon us. As long as people don’t pontificate that stay at home mothers are better mothers, I am all for the choice. the moment people start jsutifying their choices as standards to live by is where I like to smack some reality into them.

just to make things clear (not that ur post is meant for me)…i nvr said that stay at home mom’s make better mothers…i only said that i want to stay at home to raise my children.

raising kids is a priority to some.. pls do not equate it to chapati.

there are some stay at home moms that dont actually stay at home and make chapatis. There are many things a stay at home mom can do with her kids outside of the home. I for one wont spend my entire day at home with my children…there are so many things to do outside with them.

Heart rending to see what some of these disillusioned modern women think of staying home and raising those precious little buggers that are integral part of them. By equating this noble task with making chapatis, you are only denigrating yourselves.** I dont care what lofty degree you have from Harvard, how can you compare that to spending every waking moment with your children.** I am sure the ones who are spouting off are all single.

Day care centers may create smart kids, but the bond between tham and parents (working) is forever weakened. Case in point: Go to the old homes and ask around. The kids in western countries are so used to having parents not being a big part of their lives, it feels natural to chuck them when they hit old age.

BEing with your children every waking minute minute is not good for the kids either. I doubt you have kids, so concepts such as separation anxiety, co-dependence and impediment to growth of a personality true ot the child is something that needs to be dealt with.

I think you have trouble reading. In every post I have said that it is a mater of choice. Not one is better than the other but when lillitits try to justify their being, I sorry chanda, I have to retort in a certain fashion. Apologies if it rattled your sensibilities. Eat me!!

Most desi families in NYC where the mother stays at home, their kids do not any better or worse than kids whose parents work until the kids are in highschool. Interestingly enough, the girls in the families get the shorter end of the stick. They are not allowed to go away to college like their half wit brothers, they have to turn down scholar ships in many cases, they cannot work, and are pawned off to a husband much earlier than their brothers. And most say..“it’s just how it is..”

Wanna know why? Because they have no female role models in the family. They are doomed to return as their mother and conitnue the circle of mediocrity…raising mediocre sons who want sub-standard wives.

What kind of Dark Age nightmare is this? Certainly not anything I’ve ever seen. I have to say PD why are you so bitter and angry?

Any moron who actually thinks kids suffer or get no attention or love if their parents work is just trying to justify their life. Life is not in absolutes. It is about choice. women now have choice. if they choose to work or stay at home, either is fine. But don't pontificate on the virtues of what is good for the kids. countless examples of housewives gone wild are there as well.

i told them things like I want to play a part in improving the quality of life of patients etc. etc. which I will still do…be it for 1/2 years…at least I will still do it for them 1/2 years…

Oh, please provide a link of the the study that says spending every waking moment with your children is a bad for kids.
