Re: WHY girls work?
one of my friends dad was a doctor (just a normal average doctor)…she used to tell me he hardly spent any time with her and her siblings…to the point where the kids actually hated the dad.

Re: WHY girls work?
I agree.
I will soon finish my degree insha-allah. Its a top and respected degree. however if I choose not to work, that doesnt mean I will not teach my kids anything…in fact I would have MORE time to teach them…
ps. my parents are not educated at all…I still turned out ok.
a friend of mines parents are also not educated…her one brother is a doctor, other brother is a pharmacist..shes doing pharmacy with me…and her sister also has a law degree.
Re: WHY girls work?
leave the girl alone…whats ur problem what she wants to do ? Im doing Pharmacy…its very hard to get into…but I intend on not having it as a lifelong career thing…am I also wasting space in the class? how ? what I learn will become useful to me at some point in life…for example if im in hospital, I’d like to know what drugs are being fed into me…whether thy are suitable or not…if I did not do my degree that im doing…i would be completely ignorant…and may even die as a result of being given a wrong drug (which does happen alot believe it or not). these days a patient has a choice over whether they want to take a certain drug or not…if a person doesnt know anytihng about it, how will they choose? it would also help with my kids/family. medical and pharmacy degree is very similar hence what I learn, would definately be useful, whether I choose to work or not.
ps. Miss PCG…what degree/job are u doing which u r using to its full potential? by the way ur talking, it seems like ur some highly qualified doctor…who has gotten a place in medical school and is concerned for other people (so they can be just as succesful as you).
Re: WHY girls work?
30K is MINIMUM a pharmacist would earn…
its much more than that…
Re: WHY girls work?
i dont know the kind of ppl u know…but most of the ppl i know(considering i know a lot of lawyers) with high Lsat scores get into decent law schools…so to me what ur saying is unheard of…makes no sense.
There is no rule out there that says a woman that wishes to obtain a law degree cant later on in life choose to stay at home and raise her kids. If you have heard of such a rule…do share. In fact there are many women out there that decide to take time away from their career to raise their children and they later go back to it. I NVR said that i wanted to be a stay at home mom for the rest of my life…i merely stated that I wasnt sure as of yet because it is too early to decide.
I dont know about you but my family will always come first…i refuse to let some stranger raise my children for 8 hrs + a day 5 days + a week. I dont want to have to MAKE time out of my busy schedule…i should ALWAYS be there for them…24/7. when they older…in high school etc…its totally different.
Re: WHY girls work?
i know lots of families like this.
Re: WHY girls work?
good point.
Re: WHY girls work?
i believe that i said i would (had u read my posts)…there are many things i can do with a law degree and still devote ALL my time to my family.
Re: WHY girls work?
PCG…people with crap LSAT scores dont deserve to get into Law schools…who’d want a dumb lawyer? ![]()
that would be the downfall of society ![]()
Re: WHY girls work?
the fact that there are lawyers in society is already a tell tale sign that qayamat is upon us. As long as people don't pontificate that stay at home mothers are better mothers, I am all for the choice. the moment people start jsutifying their choices as standards to live by is where I like to smack some reality into them.
Re: WHY girls work?
You didnt get my point. You are wasting money if not yours government’s. Your seat could have been given to someone who wnats to do something in life other than making chapatis…
Re: WHY girls work?
raising kids is a priority to some.. pls do not equate it to chapati.
Re: WHY girls work?
What’s wrong with making rotis? It’s damn hard work to make the perfect roti ![]()
Re: WHY girls work?
^^ Ok..go make a few rotis for me...shabash... :)
Re: WHY girls work?
Heart rending to see what some of these disillusioned modern women think of staying home and raising those precious little buggers that are integral part of them. By equating this noble task with making chapatis, you are only denigrating yourselves. I dont care what lofty degree you have from Harvard, how can you compare that to spending every waking moment with your children. I am sure the ones who are spouting off are all single.
Day care centers may create smart kids, but the bond between tham and parents (working) is forever weakened. Case in point: Go to the old homes and ask around. The kids in western countries are so used to having parents not being a big part of their lives, it feels natural to chuck them when they hit old age.
Beware what you wish for girls.
Re: WHY girls work?
I’ll only make rotis for my husband/father/mother/brother/bhabhi/my kids/their kids/etc not for people like you ![]()
Re: WHY girls work?

It's not because the kids were sent away to day care but because that's what the culture is. Children are supposed to make their own life after they hit 18 in the West. They move, work, have girlfriends/boyfriends and form a family of their own from the very early age compared to Eastern cultures.
Same thing with old parents. Generally old parents do not want to live their children and have their own life even when they are old. It's all because of individualism and not by some kinda spin of child day care.
Re: WHY girls work?
You really want to convince us that when a person reaches old age he/she would rather be in a nursing home than be in warmth of a home surrounded by his children and grandkids? Thanks, but i aint buying it.
Have you ever volunteered at a geriatric ward? Christmas is around the corner, just take a few hours off and visit your local hospital. You will see these octagenerians living in misery and complaining being neglected by their loved ones. But how can she complain, she did the same thing to her parents. It’s a vicious cycle.
I cited the day care just to illustrtate how important it is to have at least one parent (whether momor dad) present to strengthen the bond. The culture that encourages you to become independednt at 18 is based on selfishness – It is all about my fun, my freedom, my career that comes first before my children.
Re: WHY girls work?
^ what hogwash. What bond are you talking about? If you think a child doesn't know who their parent is or feels less love than another whose parent is at home is factually not true. This is a false amntra embedded in the minds of desis who like easy/pre-defined roles for their mates to live a life of mediocrity. the result, mediocre children boron to mediocre parents.
The culture that asks you become individualistic is not based on selfishness but on self sufficiency. Desi culture si replete with mama's boys who still suck on mama's titty when are they are 25. Desi girls never learn the concept as they are moved from under their parent's control to their husband's control.
people also live healthier and longer lives in the west. Byt he time they move to nusing homes, they are in a place that is equipped to take care of their physical needs. How many 80 yrs olds do you see running around India or Pak where the avg. life span is in the 60's. 45 yr olds are old in desi land. Not in the west.
AMerica in partiicular is a country based on self sufficiency.
Re: WHY girls work?
Sure…thats why Bush is asking donations from other countries for Katrina…and always begging for soldiers from other countries to wage wars… and now even has to beg for foreign loans to run his country…grow up amerika…lol
