Where there is a will there is a way. Husband and wife can work together to arrange their schedules such that there is someone with the kids all the time.

You can take time off before the kids are in schooling age. And then return to your career later.

You can also take them with you to work, or do some work from your home part of the time.

Leaving the kids with daddy for a few hours in the day will not kill your children.

Not necessarily.. my mom isn’t educated past matric but shes always encouraged me to do well and get an education; if she didn’t think education was that important, we’d be in pak right now but she knows that college in pak wud be worthless since I cudn’t use it here. she’s suffering it out here just so i can finish my degree. my dad wants me to get a masters…whatever i decide to do my parents will stand by me and support my decisions whether I marry or get a masters/law degree.

i’ll tell you a short story,
my boss works very hard, we use to work 7 days a week. but since his daughter is born, he takes his weekends off and spends them with her. of course there is still a lot of work to do, but he has dedicated his weekends to his family and no one can even call him about work.

even if you are a professional you can still manage your personal and professional life.

tell that to a doctor that is on call most of their lives. (ie surgeons, etc)

:) The lady I was working for recently, she is divorced and has two children. The career is very very time-consuming. But she makes it a point to keep contact with them over the phone thruout the day. I've never seen 2 daughters that are more close and confiding to their mother than those 2 kids. After 5 or 6 pm, she goes home and doesn't deal with any work-related stuff anymore until the next morning. She does have us come over her home on Saturday mornings sometimes to work on projects, but she somehow always manages to give her girls attention at the same time.

It can be done.

Most desi families in NYC where the mother stays at home, their kids do not any better or worse than kids whose parents work until the kids are in highschool. Interestingly enough, the girls in the families get the shorter end of the stick. They are not allowed to go away to college like their half wit brothers, they have to turn down scholar ships in many cases, they cannot work, and are pawned off to a husband much earlier than their brothers. And most say.."it's just how it is.."

Wanna know why? Because they have no female role models in the family. They are doomed to return as their mother and conitnue the circle of mediocrity...raising mediocre sons who want sub-standard wives.

Have u spoken to surgeons that are on call?

They usually have their schedules arranged in a manner that they have ample time for their family. The only med profession I've heard where there are massive problems are neurosurgery. And that's because your hand has to be REALLY steady, so often when women have a fight at home and then go in to do a surgery the next day, they will run into problems. I know of a lady who had a malpractice suit over a mistake she made, cuz she had a fight with the hubby the night before.

And neurosurgery is not the only speciality you can have as a doctor...duh.

Uhmmmm nope!!! I know plenty of desi girls from traditional famillies who work, who go to school, who have goals. listen, just because a mother stays home it does not mean that she's raising mediocre kids, she's not dumb or stupid and they're not bad parents. It's NOT mediocrity to want to stay at home and devote all ur time to kids, why don't u get that??

i mean if you really want to put family first, it can be done.
instead of making a million dollars a year, you can make a little less,
