Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

i don't think its true that a lot of emphasis is put on the wedding functions rather than the guy. a lot of emphasis is put on the guy during the rishta process and before you accept the proposal. however, once the proposal is accepted after all the screening done, other things like wedding preps etc comes to your mind and as the wedding time is nearing you automatically get more caught up with these things. doesn't mean though that the thought of the guy you are marrying to goes out the window.

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

Yup I was married and have gone through it i.e why I post this thread. It's not about the cost and I never said it in my post. The point is when a person is getting married he/she wants to look good obviously, and I'm not against it but going over the top like searching for makeup artist, dresses and other stuff a year ago madly but not giving importance and trying to know the person you're getting makes you feel like you're marrying to those stuff not you.

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

you guys not getting the point. Just read what I replied above

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

When somebody got engaged isn't it right to speak to your fiance? What if a other person says no but looks much interested in making it's shopping list. Calling Pakistan to different salons, posting on forums to get the best of everything but leaves you after couple of months saying not interested anymore so don't you feel the same? I heard a girl saying that she wants to marry soon while looking at the picture of a bride asked why? Because then I'll get these stuff too. WTH Is the marriage means only to look best? That's all.

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

The only important thing that people remember in a wedding is FOOD!

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

I don't think its unreasonable for a girl to want to look nice on her wedding. Most girls do not know how to professionally apply makeup, its not something they teach us in school so that's why we look for a makeup artist. I do makeup on brides and if they didn't have to pay someone to do their makeup - they would not. Similarly, you'd expect her to cater the food and not cook it herself for her wedding. Hopefully. You'd expect her to at least want to purchase something nice to wear instead of sewing it herself.

Simplicity is great but if she can afford to look nice on her wedding day, there's nothing materialistic about that.

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

What's wrong with getting married at the courthouse? Nothing can beat that price.

Re: Why girls get crazy for things…

Uff, OP, you don’t understand the pressures of being a princess. :snooty:

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

^I don't think it's unreasonable to search for a "dress" or makeup artist, but what I think the OP means is that the bulk of the conversation between the couple is about the wedding....and that majority of the time spent is on the wedding. If that's the case, he does have a point. There are 100 things to tend to during wedding preps...but some time should be taken out for just your SO..that's not about the wedding. There are other factors such as communication restrictions b/w the couple in some families. Also, if the guy and girl are taking an active role in the wedding plans...then they will have to come together to plan for the venue, the guest list, etc etc.

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

Well...I am the opposite! I never actually considered having a huge massive wedding etc. Fast forward to the present and hubby's (nikkah is done) family is intent on everything being the best. The guest list is up to 1000 (and still going) and they insist on all my dresses being designer. My parents told them we would pay for them but they won't let us! In this case though he is the only son so that may be a factor.

In terms of the two of us, we still have a few months to go until the wedding but we have never lost sight of what is important - US! We have reached a mutual conclusion that the whole big wedding is something his parents want and are happy to let them do it while we sit back and focus on the more important things :)

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

Explain...

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

Clothes: Non designer.
Jewelry: Mom's old set
Makeup: Not insanely expensive. In fact, my engagement was in a banquet hall (because his family insisted that their entire khandan needs to attend and it can't be a small ceremony at home), and I still did my own makeup.
Photographer: I don't have a choice because both families want professional photo albums. Not getting a videographer though.

If it were up to me I'd get married at home with just the siblings and parents as guests. But desi shadis aren't about the bride and groom, they're about the families and the community.

My upcoming wedding is the biggest chore and headache I've ever dealt with. I can't wait for it to be over so I can finally start my life with my best friend.

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

US = our relationship and future and not getting caught up/stressing about wedding details. It's important yes but not an obsession to either of us.

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

I knew no one gonna notice me, that's what my experienced wingman told me . so I just showered, shave, wore a suit and put on a smile ... and next thing ... I was waiting for food ... :) Its so easy for us men ;)

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

Word. My only concern was sitting on that damn stage. Hate that. Did not want that. But seems marriage is more about everybody else and less about me and the Mrs.

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

girls like make up,jewellry, clothes, discussing and designing clothes, its a once in a lifetime (hopefully ; D) thing and that particular day will be all about them more or less, and about the groom.and yup its possible to give ur husband to be attention while preparing for marriage,by involving him, asking his opinion, sometimes compromising and going with something he likes even if you dont :) it should creat good bonding.
im in the same boat and i realize that my husband to be enjoys picking stuff out (he's different and likes to do these things) so both of us enjo giving ideas to one another about venues or apparel.if i do something that he likes it makes him happy so why not.

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

when a lady gets married to a quality guy she'll focus on the relationship more but when she is getting married out of pressure from society or family just to fufill her duty, she might go all out and have her fun! To be honest guys only complain of this type of stuff if they cant afford to keep up. You can have a great relationship and a great wedding, its a celebration of your relationship! If you are someone who likes simpler things choose a partner who is the same, you cant go for a girl who is affluent and say I'm simple so I wont give you anything!

Re: Why girls get crazy for things...

Cause now says relationships are given less value.. We value things that money can buy and are useless..

Most of is due to the media movies tv and people around us.
