Re: Why do some women in Pakistan...
I think (and yes I may be alone and wrong on this) : Underlying issue is that men and women are kept apart so much there is lot of desperation (especially among men). Please note - I am not implying / promoting western society.
Coming back to the Q: Men do get to touch hands and feet of women , but cmon its just hands and feet. Salesmen are generally polite and don't smother over hands and feet.
Re: Why do some women in Pakistan...
do we see men being assisted in wearing something as simple as a wrist watch by women?
historically, that can create an endless hue and cry. can you wonder why?
share your thoughts on this.
there is a huge sociological component that is missed on purpose when blame games are played.
somethings are ALLOWED to get done and happen, when clearly all minds know that they should not be allowed to get done or to happen.
best,
Dushwari
Re: Why do some women in Pakistan...
^ I may have missed your point ...
but certain things are allowed (such as allowing men to host bangle stalls) because in bigger picture this is their business / their livelyhood. If you ban men catering to woman in any way / form - then you are cutting jobs / businesses and causing more social isolations.
Re: Why do some women in Pakistan...
^ women can refuse to let the men touch them!
Re: Why do some women in Pakistan…
:shoaby: my shoe- size is normally not available at every store . and i go to only a few stores where i help myself ![]()
and also i wear bangles myself all the times. ![]()
CONCLUSION: never make gestures about all the ppl keeping in mind a few certain examples
MEANING: not every person is like other person
Re: Why do some women in Pakistan...
Why do so many women go to shop for "churian" on chaand raat only?
Well, i do beleive that a good percentage enjoy being bangled (or whatever churian pehnaana is called in english) by men.
Re: Why do some women in Pakistan...
A scholar told me this true incident about a shop keeper. He said that when the shop keeper reached home, his wife was sitting in a corner and crying. When he asked the reason, she said, "Today, when our servant was giving me the plastic bag of vegetables, he held my hand for sometime."
The shop keeper replied, "It is actually my fault, because today when I was helping a woman to put on bangles, I also held her hand for sometime"
Re: Why do some women in Pakistan...
^^ Very interesting :) & so strange that shopkeeper was honest with his wife about that. usually, men do not realise that any mistreatment or humiliation their wives / sisters / daughters go through could just be a 'returned favor' of their own actions & treatment of other women during their lifetime. I have found that to be true in so many people's lives.
Re: Why do some women in Pakistan...
Good lesson but a poor example.
Re: Why do some women in Pakistan...
I don't doubt our Muslims sisters modesty, but consider them to be too innocent to realize such mistakes. And when they bargain, they speak in such soft and friendly voice, which might create hope in the heart of na-mehram (stranger men).
Once my mother's friend was very polite and kind with the painter who had come to paint their house. The next day, the painter rang the bell when she was alone. When she opened the door, guess what ? He was wearing a three piece suit, hair combed, good smelling perfume, and flowers in his hands. Not to mention the kind and polite smile on his face.
It took quite sometime for my mom to console her, of course after the gentleman was kicked out.
Well, you kinda HAVE to hold someone’s hand if you’re going to help put bangles on them. See, that I never understood. I’ve bought bangles from Pak (it’s tradition, do it every time I visit)…and I’ve never had the shopkeeper “help” me with putting them on. And I wouldn’t want him to either. How hard is it to try out bangles by yourself? Help yourself
LOL.
Re: Why do some women in Pakistan...
my gosh.
ok seriously, i understand the moral behind these stories, but these actual examples are making women sound like big balls of mush who have no brains and cry at the drop of a hat...yeah...no.
LOL, very funny......
I have seen so many similar incidents too. The women (even men in some cases) do not realise that their 'politeness' is misunderstood. It is misinterpretation of their good nature by the fools on the other side.

Re: Why do some women in Pakistan...
^Aaaw.....(the decked out painter example)......LOL. Hilarious.
Re: Why do some women in Pakistan...
Cheap joke:
What did the shopkeeper say to his customer?
I'd like to bang(le) you.
my gosh.

Agree. If you were assaulted, that's one thing. But...to get weepy over something much more minor...is a bit much. Get your point across with firmness.
In Feburary i went to Pakistan and I had to buy some nice shoes for myself for my cousin's wedding. The shop was in Tariq rd (cant remember the name), were all the sales-rep were male and they were helping ladies putting on their shoes. I was shocked to see ladies fully covered and letting ghair mard touching their feet.I would just choose a style and asked for any size and then would show my aunts.
(OMG and in Pakistan men STARE even if your like fully covered)
Females can work around these sort of things if they really want to.
Male gynecologists are the one's that really get me.
Even though my gynecologist is male.. and Muslim.
He's awesome.
Why? :)
Re: Why do some women in Pakistan...
It's Pakistani men's fault, they** hold** your fingers and thumbs to take your prints in Pakistani embassy when there's no need for doing this.
