Re: Why do Pakistani people speak English mixed with Urdu so much?
Why do pakistani people love finding faults with others, specially pakistanis, even when they are not pakistani themselves really. Genes me guess. Some old old dormant genes.

Re: Why do Pakistani people speak English mixed with Urdu so much?
OK, I see no problem when English is written on a predominantly English billboard like GS or English newspapers/magazines even if the article is about promoting Urdu (or native Pakistani language).
Let us evaluate here one more example of Janab e Aali… Tahir Shah.
He decides to wear all white suite like a ghost in the video and wears same or similar suit in Amir Liaqat Ali show in Ramadan.
He brings a song or so called song with weird English and senseless idea… why?
And bhai sahab, at least don’t act surprised if you get criticized or humiliated for a legit reason. At least bring something of quality which is worthy of appreciation.

Re: Why do Pakistani people speak English mixed with Urdu so much?
I'm referring to lot for whom their Indian identity was a complex and first they linked themselves with central Asian and Arab invaders and now same lot follow their British Masters in language, etc. We all know that Muslims of India (Pakistan and Bharat) are more into this complex than anyone else. Hindus never claimed ancestry of foreign invaders, Muslims got a reason, but to claim of foreign ancestry to this extent is never justified.
not every Indian understand english but almost everyone understand hindi ( if cannot read or write). Still, you see trend of speaking english among Hindus is same as among Muslims.
Re: Why do Pakistani people speak English mixed with Urdu so much?
It’s complex issue i think with some who try to boast their English or status in front others.
But then again, there you have time when you hear someone on TV and we also laugh or complain ke why he not speak English? ![]()
Think of Cricket match and the ceremony there after. You’ll see our people complain ke iss ko Enlish nahin aati.. ![]()
Think of Inzi, and more recently Ahmed Shehzad I saw. His English was not so good. And of other youngsters as well. I guess it’s coz they haven’t had a lot of schooling, college…
Re: Why do Pakistani people speak English mixed with Urdu so much?
You people misunderstand the OP. Its not about having english as an official language and professional communication. It is about every day chit chat.
When people feel the need to insert a couple of english words, deliberately, in order to appear 'educated' etc. What is funny is, most of these people can't say two sentences in complete english. Its the increasingly superficial complex ridden society.
Re: Why do Pakistani people speak English mixed with Urdu so much?
Yeah but I don't think that necessarily true for all. ^
Plus, why is it so hard to believe that some people get used to speaking two languages on a daily basis and will mix them up at times without knowing it? :( If it happens with me, it probably happens with people in Pak too.
Re: Why do Pakistani people speak English mixed with Urdu so much?
No it doesn't. As i said, these people can't put two sentences together. Not the case with you is it?

Re: Why do Pakistani people speak English mixed with Urdu so much?
English is NOT the language of Pakistanis.
Never was never will be.
It was made official because there was nothing available immediately to take over the language used by British rulers for office works.
In about 200 years or so, British rulers were very effective to make a large number of people slaves of their mentality despite they themselves NEVER felt attached enough to the land(s) they ruled on.
Like Muqa Bhai from second post of this thread accurately identified:
There are still lots of Kaalay Angrez in Pakistan.
I have met with a lot of those and their superficial and slave mentality ....despite living in Pakistan and being on powerful position...and despite that British have long gone from the land.
As to my question: There is nothing against local and native languages of Pakistan.
Politicians speak the language of Pakistan when they need votes, but after that they go back to same slave mentality and start talking English.
(More to come)
My concern is quite different than Diwanas concern, so we are allies in this quest. Unlikely alliance... Kinda like I am Jackie chan and he is Chris tucker..
Okay, so I don't have issue with people in Pakistan speaking English or wearing other clothing. My issue is simple.. Just do it right..or it's some sort of revenge aimed at the former colonists...Nat only vill vee sapeek yaar langvij funnily bat ve vill Aalso diress laak assclones and veer satraange calar cambows in satraange fabrics, fits and satyle.
Re: Why do Pakistani people speak English mixed with Urdu so much?
I don't know where I stand on this. I personally have never had this problem, wanting to switch from Urdu to English just to sound cool. Given a choice I always choose Urdu, because with Urdu I don't have to be conscious about how I sound or if I'll pronounce something wrong. It's my language I can speak it however I want and nobody will think less of me.
I love the shalwar, but the kurta is just too.....flowy. Shalwar and banyan, I could rock those all day. Kurta is a bit more formal.

I doubt it happens to you like it happens to people in Pakistan. Would you switch to Urdu while talking to someone who doesn't understand a word of it? You'll see people in Pakistan who'll try code switching with the poor kaam wali.

All the decent looking clothes are so fricking expensive back home. I don't think I had worn clothes that actually fit me before I came here to the US. Back home things were either too big/loose or too small/tight. Or I'm just built weird. $50 for a pair of jeans, hmm. I think I can live with looking like an assclone. $5 patloon it is.
