whom can I call "jaan" ?

For whom can the term “jaan” be used for? I sometimes call my sister Jaan and often call my Bhaabi, “bhaabijaan”. I also know people that refer to older brothers as Jaan or “bhai Jaan”. then even further I’ve heard it between married couples. is it weird to call certain people Jaan and more acceptable for others?

Re: whom can I call "jaan" ?

anyone except strangers and naa-mahrams of opposite sex! :)

Re: whom can I call "jaan" ?

but i thought brothers and sisters in laws are not mahram

Re: whom can I call "jaan" ?

I also think that they are not mahrams

Re: whom can I call “jaan” ?

It’s just a word…
I call everyone “jaan” :hmmm:
Mama Jaan, Abu Jaan, Baba Jaan, Bhai Jaan, Bhabi Jaan, Chachi/ Mammi Jaan… ect.

But like KKF said it, just know who you’re saying it to. I wouldn’t just call a stranger or someone I have no relations with “jaan”

bahnoii and devars are maHrams...as long as they are married to your brother or sisters...once they are divorced or one of them dies then bahnoi and devars become naa-maHram...ek waqt meN ek aadmii do bahnoN ko ek saath biwii banaa kar nahiiN rakh saktaa is liye vo maHram haiN.

Re: whom can I call “jaan” ?

I have a friend who’s kids (grown middle school and high school age kids) call there dad “Janoo” because they grew up hearing her call her husband that and the habit just formed :cb:

It’s actually kind of weird :bummer:

Re: whom can I call “jaan” ?

Jaan/Janu is only for one person  not for everyone :snooty:

Hilarious :rotfl:

Re: whom can I call "jaan" ?

Janu meri jaan, main tere qurban is for the one.

Mera dil hai Pakistan, meri jaan hai Pakistan is for country.

So Jaan is for everyone you love

Re: whom can I call “jaan” ?

I call every gal I  as Jaan

Re: whom can I call “jaan” ?

Jaan is not a usual word however people say it usually now. You call Jaan to someone you really feel for and love is not something that you can do just with your spouse, it has kinds, it can be between your parents, sibilings, kids or friends, and ofcourse you cant feel for a stranger  That is how you can call Jaan to people you love and you like calling them.

P.S., I would take your point A POINT if you were feeling weird about calling HONEY to everyone :cb: Now, thats mainly for your spouse!!
