raju Bhai, I heard that Raees Amrohvi, John Ailya were brothers (and one of the sister is also very famous poet). Am I right?

I fail to understand as to WHY we cant stick to some interesting discussions on such interesting topics–posed on this thread!!! why do always land up on LOLLLZZZ… or HA HA…etc? Why cant we discuss, interact and get the bare facts or thoughts???

anway, tariqikhan, it is true about Raees Amrohi and John Ailiya although I can not recall the name of their sister..

Having said that, Iqbal is still the Poet of the century where raju unkil failed to justify this by providing some supporting material but we are happy that he enjoyed reading it. Come to think of it, he had also met me once in “NEDIANS” yearly alumni convention held in Taj Mahal Hotel Karachi

Tariq & Annu.....I said it then and I say it now.....IQBAL is the poet of new century....or should we say...the century of modern era.
On the other hand....there's no match in this world for GHALIB but then again, as my Dad says, he is from the pre-modern era century hence hisab barabar hua!!!!!!

Yes, Raees Amrohi & Jon Ailya are brothers---and the lady refered to as sister--being poetess also...of these two brothers--is actually ZAHIDA HINA the former wife of Jon Ailya...who is a dramatist also.

Annu....there is no TAJ MAHAL hotel in Karachi. I know there is one at Dehli and one by the name of TAJ at Mumbai...but Karachi has no MAHAL of TAJ...unless you refer to Baweja's hotel near the Corp-V Hqrs on main Shahrah e Faisal...near NICVD.

NEDIANS would decipher NED College Alumni...right...then YES, I did attend that....on the request of my nephew..a NEDIAN himself--and a quite popular one----NADEEM HUSSAIN...now settled in States.

Yaadein taaza kardeen…Dhakay Ki, Lahore ki sard shamon raaton ki, Karachi ki gulabi mehfiloun ki…aur shiddat se yaad agaya iss waqt woh azeemushaan mushaira 1968 ka…Pak Arts Council Kay Open Air theatre ka…jisme shu’rka thhay; Josh malihabadi, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Ibne Insha, Nasir Kazmi, Athar Nafees, Rais Amrohi, Sehba Akhtar, Habib Jalib, Jamiluddin Aali, Iftikhar Arif, Obaidullah Aleem, Shan’ul’Haq Haqqee, Saleem Ahmed, Jamal Panipati, Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi, Jon Ailya…list khatam na honay wali…

Kiya MUSHAIRA thaah woh…k Pakistan ki tareeq mein aisa nahon hosakta…and PTV recorded it…and finally much to the disdain and curse of disaster–erased it…eventually. I was there at that mushaira with my Dad…on that beautiful evening of December at that (lost now) peaceful city of Pakistan’s heart, liver and soul–then…KARACHI.

YAAD E MAAZI AZAAB HAI YA RAB…
CHEEHN LE MUJH SE HAAFIZA MERA…

then, the Alhamra Hall of that Taj Mehal hotel where Neelaam Ghar used to be programmed and where Hakeem Muhammad Saeed’s **Bazm-e-Hamdard NaunehaaL **(which I have an hounour to attend) were all dream of mine ???

By the way, in order to prove the sentiments about a poet, one must provide the Poeticial sense and subjects of the poetry of that person than just "copy pasting" their poems :) making it a poetry forum... I can go ahead and paste the whole Baang-e-Dara, Baal-e-Jibreel, Armaghaan-e-Hijaaz, Asraar-e-Khudi etc. but it does not prove zilch....

I have provided my reasoning why I find Iqbal the best poet of the century but I am still waiting for the similar arguments put forward for the other poets... but all I see are the CLAIMS CLAIMS CLAIMS and copy pasting of the poems....

What you are refering to Taj mehal hotel is the one near Aisha Bawani School on Shara-e-Faisal (see AQ, another girl’s school of Karachi I still rememeber). The name has been changed to something else

Infact, during the launch of the hotel, Tariq Aziz actually did the acution of it, Neelam Ghar style
