At your request, Code_Red....Bandah hazir hai Im actually trying very hard to let go of the world of poetry. Leikin meri lakh kosishoon ke bavajuud.... ;-)
My Darwesh.... Saghar Siddiqui Sahib:
chhupaaye dil men Gamon ka jahaan baithe hain tumhari bazm men ham bezabaan baithe hain
ye aur baat ki manzil pe ham pahunch na sakemagar ye kam hai ki raahon ko chhaan baithe hain
fugaan hai dard hai soz-o-firaaq-o-daagh-e-alam abhi to ghar men bahut mehrabaan baithe hain
ab aur gardish-e-taqdiir kya satayegi luta ke ishq men naam-o-nishaan baithe hain
vo ek lafz-e-mohabbat hi dil ka dushman hai jise shariat-e-ehsaas maan baithe hain
hai maikadon ki bahaaron se dostii 'Sagar' baraaye had-e-yaqiin-o-gumaan baithe hain
And a stanza Im going to find to add some more here....goes like:
Aanay wale tere qadmoon pe bichadu ankhein
Janay wale tere pao sey lipat ke roluh....lemme check....
baith kar saya-e-gul me nasir

just to remind of my position on the thread:
best urdu poet: ghalib
best urdu poet of the 20th century: iqbal (he can also come at #2 after ghalib for overall ratings)

Nasir Kazmi was the head of the script deptt., at the PTV-Lahore. He was a close friend to my Dad. Visited ours at Karachi many times! In fact my Dad and Aslam Azhar went into a very serious debate when Nasir Kazmi was unceremoniously removed from PTV-Lahore. The letters exchanged are still in the archive files of my Dad at his library.
Nasir Kazmi was one of the most reckoned poets of his times.
Khush rahein....

P.S: Sorry..a bit of a blow for a contributor here...I guess!
Riju Sahab, Myself and i reckon many other people on this board would love to know more about these famous poets. It would be great if you could share some interesting incidents or your one-on-one chit chat with some great poets.
I will be grateful if you share some more stuff about them.
One thing more… I saw that ptv’s programe ‘Raat Gaye’ In which Jamil-uddin Aali sahab appeared as guest. I dont remember exactly but i think i hear jamil-uddin Aali told wasi Shah that he is direct descendant of Mirza Asad Ullah khan Ghalib. May be he was telling something else and i mistook him .. Can you confirm this. Also he shared some other interesting details some rare artifact or book which he had i forgot the details.
Would you share details about Jamil-uddin Aali and your family history and stuff in separate thread

You heard it right..and without giving anyone a feeling of name dropping, let me take you for a bit on my Dad’s background–that relates to him ancestorily.
My father Jamiluddin Aali is the son of Nawab Sir Amiruddin Ahmed Khan of the State of Loharu..at Rajhastan, India..about 3.5 hours drive towards west of Dehli. My grand father married thrice. The first lady was my father’s mom.
My great great grandpa..Nawab Ahmed Bakhsh Khan’s sister Umrao Begum was married to Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib. She didn’t bore him any sibling hence they adopted Arif.
My grandfather’s father Nawab Allaudin Khan Alai was a great fan of Ghalib..and it is on records at Kutub Khana-e-Khaas of Dehli that Alai wrote to Ghalib saying “Aap Mere Dada Hein” and Ghalib wrote back “Mian Mein Tumhara Dada nahin…DIL Dada houn” and at Alai’s request, Ghalib wrote the famous ghazal…which was sung by Noor Jehan even.. “MEIN HOUN MUSHTAQ-E-JAFFA, MUJHE SE JAFFA AUR SAHEE…” and at one point the verse says “MUJHE SE GHALIB…ALAI NE GHAZAL LIKHWAIEE…”
Interesting many years back, my father was invited at Dehli for a mushaira BA YAAD E GHALIB and my dad couldnt make it…however, he did send some verses–which Kunwar Mehendre Singh Bedi recited before a packed audience of 100k enthusiasts…and the end verse of Dad’s poetry was “MUJHE SE GHALIB, ALAI NE SAU BARAS BAAD GHAZAL LIKHWAIEE…”
**More interestingly, when Ghalib’s 100th death anniversary came..the PTV produced a play written by Aliya Imam Saheba titled “MEIN KAUN HOUN AIE HUM NAFASON” in which Kunwar Aftab Ahmed chose me to play the part of Allaudin Khan Alai and the wonder of it all…I wore the actual family cap—of Ghalib days—from my Dad’s collection. If I would remember it correctly–I think it was in 1968-69 the play was produced.
When Naseeruddin Shah visited Pakistan for stage recital of the wonder play “TUMHARI AMRITA” with Shabana Azmi in Karachi in 2006…he requested for calling on my Dad…and they both came—as Kaifi Azmi is a great friend of my Dad…and Naseer particularly talked about Ghalib with my Dad…whowas pretty annoyed with the Indian movie GHALIB as some important facts were left out…
Speaking of poets I have met…its a long list and I’ll surely scribe some very interesting discussions and exchanges I had the opportunity to have with greats like FAIZ, QASMI, INSHA, JOSH, EHSAN DANISH, NASIR KAZMI, BASHIR BADAR, BEIKAL USTAHI, PIRZADA QASIM, SALEEM AHMED, ATHAR NAFEES, QUDRATULLAH SHAHAB…the list goes on…!!
**** I, for one, cannot for a second doubt for name dropping as I recall the same details i heard from Jamil-uddin Aali sahab in that PTV’s show. I remeber the name Arif. and the relationship was almost the same, But I didn’t pay much attention due to the complexity therin. Anyhow, your Family background is quite impressive. Please share more accounts of your father and other famous poets… I (and many other members) would eagerly wait for that
Mesmerrizing words, :k:
I am saying this because these words remind me of some literary marvels of Ashfaq Ahmed ‘Ek muhabat Suo Afsaney’ … such fabulous stories. One of them was ‘Daada Dildaada’. The story was very interesting and ending was inriguing and drives you to ecstasy.
I heard the ending event was inspired from some mughal king who did the same ritual for recovery of son from deathbed and soon afterwords the father passed away.
