Re: who would be the urdu poet of the century?
so codu bhai, you declare that Allama Iqbal was Shair-e-Mashriq for no reason. It ought to be Ibn-e-Insha...?
Interesting.

Re: who would be the urdu poet of the century?
dont know exactly abt istey’ara
***Be khatar kood para aatish namrood main ishq ***
***Aqal hai mehev-e-tamashayee, lab-e-baam abhi ***
I think the pointer(reference) to the incident of Hazrat Ibrahim :as: thrown in fire is called Iste’ara. Maybe Aq can explain it better
Tashbih is reflection. analogy
Re: who would be the urdu poet of the century?
AQ khan that was for the importance of his poetry and its combined effect. Not for the quality of poetry itself.
Plus Iqbal was an indian poet. Ibn-e-insha is pakistan ![]()

Re: who would be the urdu poet of the century?
I fail to understand as to WHY we cant stick to some interesting discussions on such interesting topics--posed on this thread!!! why do always land up on *LOLLLZZZ...:) or HA HA...etc? Why cant we discuss, interact and get the bare facts or thoughts??????????????????????????*
Nevertheless--I posed the Q of the greatest poet of the century to my Dad (Jamiluddin Aali)...firstly he asked me which century? on some more discussion--he was of view that of the past century---MIRZA ASADULLAH KHAN GHALIB was undoubtedly the one. For the current century....he felt cogently of view that its none the other but ALLAMA IQBAL......
Now challenge him if you please...but take into consideration his adabi knowledge and background and yours...........
Khush Rahein.........

Re: who would be the urdu poet of the century?
arjay uncle, LOL is a technical term and we are a progressive nation with some enlightened moderation… we gotta use it… nonetheless, thank you for putting a certified answer to my understandings as well…
Codu bhai: abb bolo ![]()
Re: who would be the urdu poet of the century?
By the way:
this whole discussion reminds me of Ata-ul-Haq Qasmi's words which were somewhat like: "Iqbal Shaheen ko MamoolaY saY laRaanaa chaahataa hai ........ ...] Aaj har ik apnaY apnaY size kaa Iqbal liye phirtaa hai"
Re: who would be the urdu poet of the century?
Arjay sahab. It is AQ. he is using chat language. It shows how uncultured and illmannered he is in this serious topic ![]()
The opinion of Jamil-uddin Aali holds more value and importance than opinions of all of us combined. But The problem here is that Iqbal’s personality is very diversified and multi-dimentional. He was a thinker, a phillosopher an relligious propagater and a most of us get impressed by his pro-active religiously charged ideas and motivation …Although he himself is confused sometimes
at one place
Saarey jahaan se acha hindustaa.n hamara
hum bulbulain hain iski ye gulsitaan hamara
at another place
***In taza khudaoon main baRa sab se watan hai ***
***ju pairahan iska hai, wo mazhab ka qafan hai ***
Kia ye khula tazaad nahi hai ? (I sound like suhail wirraich
)
Would you kindly ask your father this question ? and one more,
In his view who would be poet of century if we keep Iqbal out of the race.
thanks
Re: who would be the urdu poet of the century?
Arjay uncle, please, be considerate about the grammar Codu uses. Thanks.
Codu: do you know that Iqbal’s earlier poetry up until 1905 was very nationalistic and the approach was changed later… and more towards Islam… (One must read Iqbal properly to know all that! :)) If you open Baang-e-Dara for example, (provided you ever did)… you will notice how it is divided in different TIME SPANS and each span is reflective of his evolution towards the final thing that we picture Iqbal as now…
Where it starts with “Himaala”,
Aye Himaalaa, Aye Faseel-e-Kishwar-e-Hindustaan
Choomtaa hai jhuk kar teri peshaani ko aasmaaan
it ends with verses like
Masjid tau banaa dee shab bhar maiN imaaN kee haraarat waaloN naY
Munn apnaa puraanaa paapi hai, barsoN maiN namaazi bun naa sakaa
Arjay uncle: I would love to know what Jameel-ud-Deen Aali per-uncle has to say about it… I am sure his words will make us aware of situation much more…
![]()
PS: and do not mind Codu, he has a knack of changing topics to personalities than discussion.
PS 2: Codu, I regard Faiz on the second in if we keep Iqbal out… I would like to know Aali per-uncle’s opinion on that too…
Re: who would be the urdu poet of the century?
Faiz, Jalib and Faraz are cretins when compared to Iqbal.
waisay toh yah baat tameez aur tahezeeb kay dairay mein reh kar bhi ki ja sakti thi. laikin aap ki marzi.

Does this look like the poetry forum???
Re: who would be the urdu poet of the century?

Poetry is an Art - though GS has distinct Poetry Forum nontheless, debates like these should not be posted in that forum - Have you ever seen people debating about Ghalib and Daagh in a "Mehfil-e-Mushaa'ira" :)
Re: who would be the urdu poet of the century?
the thread is from 1998, and predates the poetry section by a few years. actually this post is from the early days of teh arts and culture forum. whichy later was divided itno what we see as all the life forums, poetry, etc etc.

Re: who would be the urdu poet of the century?
Thank God for making Anwaar Qureshi oft forgiving that he chose to ignore rampant grammatical mistakes in my posts and pointed out just a typographical error. please read "an**d **religious"
Codu: do you know that Iqbal's earlier poetry up until 1905 was very nationalistic and the approach was changed later.... and more towards Islam.... Accordign to historical record, his nationalist approach was never changed... let me remind you the famous 'Khutba-e-Allahbaad' we used to parrot the part of speech by Allama Iqbal back in school days.
1930, Presedential address by Dr. Muhammad Iqbal in Muslim leagues annual session in Allahbaad :
"I, therefore, demand the formation of a consolidated Muslim state in the best interests of India and Islam. For India, it means security and peace resulting from an internal balance of power; for Islam, an opportunity to rid itself of the stamp that Arabian imperialism was forced to give it, to mobilize its laws, its education, its culture, and to bring them into closer contact with its own original spirit and with the spirit of modern times."
Given the fact he died in 1938, so it was later part of his life. So at one place he is demanding homeland for muslims of subcontinet in the best interest of ISlam and in his poetry he is denouncing homeland and attributing it with the demise of religion (islam).
Such huge contradictions ?
ps1. AQ, The question was not posed at you.
ps2. AQ khan, baraye meherbaani Hareem bibi ko khat likh kar mut'la kardain ke aap ne ghalat bayaani farmaaye thi. wo ju apki batayee hoi 'information' pe sidq-e-dil se emaan la chuki hain. nahi tu wo saari umar usi (dis)information ko apney dupattey ke pallu se bandhey rahain gi.
Re: who would be the urdu poet of the century?
Good attempt to recover:
so now we should read it:
“He was a thinker, a phillosopher and relligious propagater and a most of us…”
anyway, it’s a moot point and off topic.. ![]()
Funny that you posted a reference but in all WRONG context. Itni mehnat aur woh bhee not convincing. hmmmm.
We are talking about his APPROACH in HIS POETRY?
Remember the topic? ![]()
It would have made me think about the issue if you had shown me his works in poetry from that time
but no you did not… To prove yourself correct, you LEFT the topic… which was about the poetry…
Sometimes, go read Ashfaq Ahmed (Talqeen Shah) what he had to say about Iqbal in the very context you are bringing his approach in the debate…
Amazing that from poetry, now you are debating a personality … Zaatiyaat.. eh?
RE: PS 1: I did not know that public discussion board required such an attitude… Was my answer not valid regardless if you were not anticipating it from me? And you failed to see I was constantly saying that I am anticipating an answer from the PERSON you want it too… I was just posting my opinion so that you may know what can be coming… Now, be well prepared for what might be coming from Aali saahab ![]()
RE: PS 2:
Now as for Hareem, none of your concern, she already knew it after the post… Do not try to show smartness when you do not have anything else to share… Is that the best that you can do? Attack the debator when you run out of arguments:p?

C'mon lads , leave it :) Let us make it Ghalib , He is the one for all centuries !
