Re: Who will win the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies.
WI ODI side can thrash anyteam on a good day, thats why they are the ICC champs. Pakis can't afford to be complacent against them. I remember they were beaten quite badly by windies in one of the VB matches earlier this year.
Re: Who will win the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies.
Yes WI did win the ICCT cup but what else have they accomplished recently. Not a lot. Their performance recently in australia against Pakistan and Aus was nothing to shout about.
Re: Who will win the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies.
Well I don’t agree with you. Let me tell you what they have accomplished against pakistan recently:
22 Sep 2004 ICC Semi final: WI beat paki by 7 wickets. Pakistan 131 allout (38 overs), WI 139-3 (28 overs)
19 Jan 2005: Paki beat WIN by 6 wickets. WI 273-5, Pak 274-4 (47 overs)
28 Jan 2005: WI beat Paki by 58 runs. WI 339-4, paki 281-9 (50 overs)
1 Feb 2005: Paki beat WI by 30 runs: Pak 307-8, WI 277 all out (48). In that match WI at one stahe were 194-3 in 32 overs and were almost in a position to snatch the victory.
Before that obviosly WI won the ICC tournament in september 2004.
So I guess you can’t say that there was nothing to shout about. When they beat us they did it convincingly, and when they lost they didn’t go down withuot a fight. They kicked us out of ICC when we were almost favourites to go the the final of ICC and then they almost kicked us out of VB series. So in ODI there recent perform against pakistan says it all. We can expect a tough competition.
Re: Who will win the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies.
^ So when WI beat us by 7 wickets it is convincing but us beating them by 6 wickets isnt.
Yes they won the ICC final but after that they could not make it to the triangular final in Australia.
I was talking about after the ICC cup, since winning the ICC final they played Pakistan 3 times, and lost twice. Your 7 wicket win by WI was during the ICC cup.
Re: Who will win the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies.
I think you shoud have a look at the score card again, when they beat us by 7 wickets we scored 138. When we beat them by 6 wickets they scored 274 batting first. Also when you talk about matches you also consider the importance of a match. It was a semi final of the second biggest cricket tournament after world cup. Pakistan vwere favoutires in that match because we came in the semi final after beating india. Yes after that match we have won 2 matches and they have won single match. They were not able to qualify for the VB finals becasue in the last league match of that tournament when there was a do and die situation for both teams and the winner of the match wa getting the slot in the finals, Pakistan managed a victory when WI collapsed chasing a taget of 307. At one stage they were 194-3 and sarwan and chanderpaul had a partnership of 100 runs and they needed run a ball from there with 7 wickets in hand and 2 set batsmen at crease. I watched that match live and still remember the tension. The point is they have given us a tough time lately which should be evident from the reocrd which i mentioned in my previous post. I can't tell you more why pakistan can't afford to be complacent against them. Having said that I hope pakistan will kick some carabbain asses this summer which is now long due
Re: Who will win the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies.
It doesnt matter who scored how much the final result is 7 wickets and 6 wickets. Here is something else to ponder, if Pakistan had scored 274 would WI have won by 7 wickets? I very much doubt it. How can you say that Pakistan managed a victory, what about us putting them under pressure and they curmbling. They might have given us tough time but they hold no terrors for us.
Re: Who will win the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies.
I think Pakistan and WI have equal chances of winning ODI series. WI have some really good batsmen, Pak have 4 good allrounders and couple of good batsmen.
If Pakistan batting clicked as it did in the last days of Indian tour, with a century and couple of fifties, we can beat WI with the current combination in the field. Yoyo, YK, Inzi, Malik and Butt have to stick to the wicket. With neutral umpires, it will be difficult for WI to have the same infamous and somewhat hostile home advantage as it has been in last 3 decades.
Re: Who will win the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies.
Present WI like Pakistan is an ‘Unpredictable’ side. They have the ability to swing the game their way or trash it through their own demise. I expect to see pockets of sporadic
performances and heroics.
Re: Who will win the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies.
I don’t know why we are arguing just for the sake of arguement. The point is that we can’t be complacent with them. They have won equal number of matches with us in the last 8 months. I never said that they hold terrors for us but as you yourself admittted that they have given us a touch time so thats my point. Whoever has given you a touch time is not an easy opposition.
Also it has been a challenge for pakistan to beat them in their own backyard which Pakis will do it this time inshallah. It is just like australian not able to beat india on indian soil for a long time until last year. Steve waugh called it the last frontier although was not fortunate enough to be part of the winning team. Just like india who are a tough team to beat at their home ground, WI has also been a similar kind of team for Pakistan. They are among those teams who get the maximum advantage of home ground, crowd and conditions and tend to play good regardless of their cricket else where. People see the statistics and when you talk about stats, beating them in their homeground has been a challenge for pakistan team, and thats why its not going to be an easy tour.
Pakistan has played 19 test with WI in WI and have won 3 times and lost 9 times, 7 draws
Playaed 16 ODI’s, won 4, lost 11 and 1 tied.
Re: Who will win the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies.
Very true captain, no one can afford to be complacent, and we were discussing specifically in the context of pakistan versus windies. With their record against us even if you want to be, you cant.
Re: Who will win the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies.
No one is talking about being complacent. As for the record you cannot comapre this WI team with the one in the 70's and 80's. That team would beat this WI team by an innings every time they play.
After a successful tour of India Inzamam-ul-Haq has expressed confidence in his side’s ability to beat West Indies in the Caribbean. Pakistan, who have never won a series there, last toured in 1999-2000, when West Indies won the Tests series 1-0.
“We’ve never won a Test or one-day series in the West Indies and I’m fully confident that this time we’ll beat them,” Inzamam was quoted as saying by APP. “The Caribbean tour will be another test of the young team and if I’m not wrong it’s going to be a tough venture, but I believe the players are fully prepared to take on a challenge bravely.”
Pakistan are scheduled to play two Tests and three one-day internationals this time. Out of the 19 Tests played between the two teams in the Caribbean, Pakistan have lost nine and won only three.
However, Inzamam played down their dismal record against West Indies. “The way the team fought in the Test and one-day games in India it highly speaks its abilities and to do the same against the other teams and the fighting trend it showed will serve as a big motivation in the West Indies also.”
Speaking about the team selection, Inzamam stressed on the fact that his young players were performing up to the required level. “Their performance is gradually getting better and they’ll also be learning a lot in the West Indies which will help them prepare for the home series against England in October.”
Re: Who will win the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies.
I know that and I don’t want to give the impression that beating them in test is impossible. With the current WI test side it is comparatively much easier, but that was to explain that why it is a challenge for paki to beat WI in thier home ground.
I started the discussion with WI ODI performance. They are very unpredictable side and their performance against us recently has suggested that it could be an evenly matched competition in ODI’s, since ehsan bhai said that they havent accomplished anything significant against us in ODI lately, therefore i presented their recent performace in ODI’ with us in one of my previous post.
Re: Who will win the ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies.
I just answered to what you said earlier “Yes WI did win the ICCT cup but what else have they accomplished recently. Not a lot. Their performance recently in australia against Pakistan and Aus was nothing to shout about”
