girls, i have a question- where can i have my mehendi? there will be about 100 people and booking an entire hall seems expensive. i’ve been told to check out community centres, but they’re not really pretty, per se. most condo party rooms are too small. i am thinking of the yonge/sheppard area. help!
Re: Where to have a mehendi in Toronto?
well depends on what kind of function you are going to have? a small event? one with friends and family and everyone else? aer you going to have both guys and girls? does that include uncles?
if it is going to be tiny, you can always hold it at home. it will be a bit jam packed, but still manageable. otherwise there are always shaadi halls you can book.
Re: Where to have a mehendi in Toronto?
hey khumar
see above! :)
and yes, it will be both guys and girls, uncles, aunts, dads, grandfathers- the whole khaandaan!
Re: Where to have a mehendi in Toronto?
in some places there are building party rooms/halls which are rented out for occasions and are decent looking, i’ve been to small functions like this and it works out well…maybe if you know someone living in an apartment/condo building in the area, then they would know if their building has a party hall and they usually get discount too…good luck:blush:
Mehndi Hall Toronto
Does anyone know of a nice, small hall that can be used for mehndi in Toronto....for a max of 200 ppl....
Re: Mehndi Hall Toronto
lots! but mostly in mississauga and richmond hill.
http://www.lejardin.com/social.html?loc=2&style=social
http://www.maplebanquet.ca/
http://www.tajbanquethall.com/
http://www.grandtaj.com/
also, lol, but 200 people is not “small” ![]()
Re: Mehndi Hall Toronto
i thought grand taj was on dixie and derry? I have seen the sign passing by
but on the website it says its in BC somewhere???
Re: Mehndi Hall Toronto
We're looking for something small.. and cheap...it's just for the mehndi...the shaadi will be somewhere else...

theres two "taj's"-- the grand taj and also just taj banquet hall... i might have posted the wrong link.
dr.khoobsurat, the minimum banquet halls charge is $20 per person... this includes the food. without the food, i.e. you cater yourselves, its around $16 per person but then you also have to hire waitstaff and do the set up/take down on your own, not to mention the cost of food. le jardin i believe is more expensive than all of those- its about $40 per person.
i know all of this cos i'm currently also trying to find a venue for my mehendi in august.
if you want a cheap mehendi, you need to cut back your guest list. we're having 100 guests and its still pretty pricey, with decor and hall, taxes and tip, it'll end up costing us around $3000. unfortunately, with you having 200 guests, you're probably looking at double that.
Re: Mehndi Hall Toronto
I would strongly recommend having the mehndi in a party hall of a condo.
If you do not live in one that is suitable....ask around amongst your family and friends. You may find someone more than happy to host the evening for you.
The 200 guests will still pose a problem though.....it may be too many for most rec rooms in condos.
You can also consider a community center hall.....wll require some decorating but it will be very inexpensive. And if dates are causing a problem, try doing it on a Thursday or Wednesday night.
And look into the cost of putting up a marquis in your own backyard.....

then book the community hall, they are pretty cheap... decor it ... cater from outside or have someone to cook at home. No waiters? get your friends to serve the guests and cleanup the mess later.

oh…I forgot to mention…we’ll be looking for the invitations in our pm boxes… ![]()
Re: Mehndi Hall Toronto
community halls are pretty inexpensive, yes, i looked into those too. but most of them are built like gyms so they’re not very attractive. if you get a really good decorator to spruce it up or do it yourself, then thats a really good option. muzna is right- condo party rooms usually top off at 80 people- very rarely are there ones that allow 200.
you can find a listing of community halls in toronto here by area - Parks & Recreation – City of Toronto
i also looked into these two venues for my mehendi -
toronto argonauts rowing club - http://www.argonautrowingclub.com/banquet
its a really nice room and it looks out on the lake so ithe view would be gorgeous at sunset. its $800 to rent and you have to buy the pop/water/juice from them. everything else comes from the caterer, including servers/waiters. they set up tables and chairs for you though, and then you’d have to either hire someone or DIY the decor/table settings, etc.
the William Lea Room at Don Mills/Bayview. they are at 1073 Millwood Road, 416 421 4944
http://williamlearoom.sites.toronto.com/
they are $700 plus GST (if you tell them you saw them on Toronto.com, they give you a $50 discount). You get 8 hours of use of the kitchen and the party room from 5pm to 1am. as with the Argonauts Rowing Club, you have to arrange for everything yourself- from the food to the servers to the music the decor etc. or bring in someone to do it for you. what is included is tables and chairs.
this is why we opted to go with a banquet hall cos its full service. theres just too much work involved in having it catered, and hiring servers/waiters is pretty expensive in the end.
if you do want to cater yourself, the Host is good as is Jaipur. i also spoke to someone at Silver Spoons and the guy said they do Pakistani Halal food for $5.99 per person and you get 7 dishes for that price, and they can also provide servers. Apparently they also have a party room space and it would be $13 per person including the venue rental and the food. I didn’t go see the place so I don’t know what it looks like but you can contact them here-
1548 Warden Avenue, 416 444 9822
the best site i’ve found so far for finding a venue is www.findabanquethall.com
they have over 500 listings and I found some very nice venues through them. The idea is to sit by the phone, go thru the website and call, call, call. I think I spoke to 15 different vendors last night. We’ve finally decided to go with Maple Banquet Hall. they are $20 per person and that includes everything. the only thing we’re doing is the stage and the centrepieces for the mehendi. they also decorate the stage a bit but its really simple and i want something with a bit more oomph ![]()
this is also a very nice place- its on the danforth but they do pakistani/indian food catering - Ellas - 35 Danforth Rd., http://www.ellas.com/
this place is really nice- too bad they were booked for our date!
Crystal Fountain banquet hall - 905 513 1900
oh and also, Chauhan on Denison was highly recommended to me as their food is meant to be amazing. My khala has been there multiple times for mehendis/mayouns and she says once decorated, they look really good.
There are two locations- 323 Denison St., 905 947 1234, and also 7350 Woodbine Ave. (Denison and Woodbine), 905 477 9292.
Both of them have 200 person halls behind the restaurants and they’re pretty decent. Actually, this might be your best bet- their menu options are $17/person, $18/person, $20/person, $22/person and $24/person. You just have to go in and decorate and also take some speakers with you. They already have a stage type area set-up that you can decorate.
good luck!!

oh, and when is the function, btw? ours is in two and half months approx., and most places were already booked up, so if your’s is coming up, don’t delay! Maple is not our first choice, by far, but unfortunately, planning the wedding has taken over our lives so there wasn’t any time to find a decent venue for the mehendi. yeesh. i think toronto must be known for its overzealous brides. one florist told us someone had booked them 15 months in advance! thank God i put my foot down and made the Fiancé book our venue/photog a year in advance, before our engagement, otherwise we’d be stuck with some crappy venue in the middle of nowehere!
Re: Mehndi Hall Toronto
a few words of caution on the food and venues that have been mentioned...
I had food at The Host -- I would never, ever select them to cater to a Pakistani affair. It was lousy.
Food from Silver Spoon is okay....but never, ever use the venue. It's horrible.
Re: Mehndi Hall Toronto
i think The Host makes great food- at least the Richmond Hill branch! why didn't you like it? as for Silver Spoons, i've never eaten there so yeah, can't comment further.
Re: Mehndi Hall Toronto
If you decide to go for community hall, you may want to check out Angus Glen in Markham: http://www.markham.ca/Markham/channels/recserv/facilities/angusglencommcentre.htm
I went there for a Pakistani gathering last month. They had booked the large party room and decorated it. It is big enough for 200 people.
With community hall centers, you have to be careful that they are not too cheap and unclean places. I have been to some community centers and they all stink of swimming pool and others smells and some are not even clean and hense it will not leave good impression for a Mehndi.
I would recommend Angus Glen anytime if you can get the large room. The room is further away from swimming pool and ice hockey place so you may have more privacy. It is very very clean and looks like new community center.

I agree...someone at work brought Biryani from HOST in mississauga....it was awful
Looking for Small Mehndi Halls in Toronto
Hi Guys,
I was wondering if you guys could suggest some small party halls that we can host our Mehndi at? Alot of the convention centers are all huge rooms that all take a per head cost. I'm trying to find some nice halls that might have a flat rate for rental? Would anyone know of any good places to host a small mehndi of about 80-100 people? Perferably in the Brampton, Missisauga area. I could use the help since I don't live in the city!
Re: Where to have a mehendi in Toronto?
bombay palace is nice for a mehndi..the small hall.
if its just ladies, our family usually just rents a community centre and then cater the food from outside.
if someone u know lives in a nice condo, they always have party rooms.
