Re: Where are players from Karachi in national team?
so lets cool down the who racism and terrorism and this and that here fellas
chillax.
so yes from a pure ratio thing one can say that howcome a big city does not have players selected. but there is no population based quota, and its not democratic representation where you get reps based on population.
in the end it is talent, performance and results, because even if someone does get selected on favouritism due to connections, if the dude cant deliver, he would be out.
Now, for the karachi angle. I have not lived much in Pak, but the couple of years I did live there were in Karachi, and I have been back many times and know teh city well.
We lost entire age groups of atheletes in Karachi because of a couple of things, one being that ghuda gardee and politics were on the up and many teens were attracted to that, it was less appealing to be a star athlete in your college or even area team and more important to be involved in politics, whether it was apmso, jamiat, psf or whatever. the 90s were horrible and the entire sports culture of the city was destroyed. This is a discussion beyond just cricket, it impacted every sport. My limited experience was with the lens of table tennis.. in the 80s there was a bustling scene and many clubs, amroha, islamia, ncc, CAA, khokhar, etc etc with quality players at all levels, years later as I went to places like NCC (national coaching center) the level of sport, the focus and the quality of players had been impacted.
I am sure there was similar impact on other sports, because for years on end when ghunda gardee of haqiqi and altaf groups with each other and dheenge mushti with other political parties is what is out there in the streets..what will happen to sports?
and the impact of such eras does not appear just then, but years later as well
just a few thoughts
