Re: where are Hamid Mir and Dr. Shahid
It was mentioned in another post, Mush gave the media groups a list of undesirable journalists who if allowed on air the channels would be blocked totally. Many of those journalists have voluntarily decided to stay away rather than cost their other colleagiues jobs. I suspect they are waiting for the election to settle so they can return.
Hamid Mir, Kashif abbassi, Shahid masood, Nusrat javed are just a few of them..the ones living in Pakistan have also been receiving serious threats against their lives.
But Geo-TV’s restoration to cable systems across the country came at a high price. Its owner, like those of other networks, had to agree not to criticize Musharraf, the military, foreign policy or the judiciary, and to limit visual images of terrorist attacks in Pakistan.
Also, at least five public affairs program hosts and news anchors remained blacklisted from the cable channel.
“Musharraf has some personal disliking for me,” said Hamid Mir, a journalist whose public affairs program, “Capital Talk,” was one of the most influential in the nation before Musharraf pulled the plug Nov. 3.
Shahid Masood, the once-popular host of an Urdu-language public affairs program, now is working at a Geo-TV bureau in Dubai. “They pressured management to fire me,” he said in a telephone interview. “I’m on the top of the (black)list.”
The disappearance of the blacklisted journalists and talk-show hosts from Geo-TV and other networks is no small affair in Pakistan, where the end of a state television monopoly in 2002 had led to an explosion of networks and the emergence of a galaxy of public affairs show hosts, newscasters and star interviewers.
“The TV anchors who do these talk shows are more popular than TV actors,” said Mazhar Abbas, the head of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, a trade group.
Re: where are Hamid Mir and Dr. Shahid
The ticker on GEO a few days ago showed that those shows and hosts will be back on air very soon.
Like Zakk said, possibly after the Elections.
I want Bolta Pakistan from AAJ TV back on air too (not sure if it already is). Is it?
Re: where are Hamid Mir and Dr. Shahid
oooo ok,, so it is what I thought, the same Mush personal mental problems with the Media. He brags so much about free media in public, yet the does these things. may ALLAH S.W.T. save Pakistan from him.

So GEO agreed to this demands? Wow. So much for GEO's so-called principled stance. It was all about money for GEO after all - nothing else. Good to see they are now following PEMRA ordinance like other channels.
GEO has become so pro-Musharaf these days, I have to switch over to PTV to get a balanced perspective on the news. :)
Re: where are Hamid Mir and Dr. Shahid
Cant wait to have them back, geo isnt the same without them
Re: where are Hamid Mir and Dr. Shahid
its true, Geo is pretty much useless without them..
