You know what Nadz. Im a little bit tired of this BS now...every year around Christmas...its the SAME OLD stuff.
We dont put up an X-Mas tree but I might do one next year. I see nothing wrong with it. You know why? **Because its Quid-e-Azam's birthday, **thats why.
Because as Pakistanis...we dont seem to have an issue with getting down and partying when it comes to a mehndi or spending a million dollars on a wedding or whatnot. Guess what? They're not Islamic either. THEY'RE CULTURAL ADAPTATIONS FROM ANOTHER RELIGION AND CULTURE. Where in Islam is a bride supposed to wear a red outfit, a natt, jhoomer, tika, her weight in gold and take a furniture set with her? A Pakistani putting up a Christmas tree is the same as a Pakistani wearing a natt on her wedding. A cultural adaptation. A tree. A damn tree is what people have an issue with.
People dont seem to have an issue with mayun, mehndi, jahaiz, bribery (which is Pakistani culture now), etc. But we've got an issue with a stupid tree.

I don’t think Christians ever have a debate like this on Eid so we muslims should also take it easy on Christmas.
My supervisor asked me if I was a muslim and wished me a Happy Eid. He then asked me if Eid was a big deal among muslims so he could send a present to a person in Kuwait whom he had worked with on a project in Ireland. I’m sure this didn’t make him a muslim, Eid to him meant nothing. But because he cared for the other person, it certainly did make him a good human being.
Point being, wishing others and giving presents is a way of showing you care. But putting up a Christmas tree would be like my supervisor attending Eid ki namaaz
You know what I mean Putting up a Christmas tree would be taking the Christmas celebrations a bit too far for a muslim (in my humble opinion ). That would be like a Christian saying “them surah decorations look pretty, let me put one up in my house” knowing that they are clearly symbolic of Islam.
I got the red squiggly line for that and thought it's for the accent mark, so I clicked it to click the accent mark one to sound smarter, but it isn't there. The first choice is Douche.
Hold your breath people.............................................................................
There was never a turkey on the first Thanksgiving.
There is no Easter Bunny.
Jesus was not even born on the 25th.
Christmas trees mean nothing in Christianity and have no religious significance.
OH and there is no Santa either.
Just like wearing red on your wedding or putting some ubtan on your face doesnt make you less of a Muslim...neither does putting up a tree. Moon pe ubtan lagane ke baad koi shahadat leta hai? Nahin...even though that is a Hindu custom. Saat din mayun baitke koi Hindu banjata hai?
If you believe Christmas tree has religious significance (it would be Roman Pagan, if any) ..... don't put it up.
If you believe Christmas tree has cultural significance and not religious.... don't criticize those who put it up unless you give up everything that belongs to other 'evil' cultures.
P.S. Reha, what has Xmas tree to do with Quaid's birthday, though? :D
All of these debates in AV always come down to the same thing - to each their own. I understand where Reha is coming from and kakaballi summed it up well.
I still wouldn't put up a Christmas tree on Christmas just as I wouldn't display the statue of Ganesha (?) on Diwali in my house. I wouldn't want to bring my children up instructing them to offer namaaz with a Christmas tree by their side. That wouldn't be required in order for them to be educated and respectful of other cultures/religions.
Things like mayoun, ubtan are of cultural significance only (not saying they're justified). If a Christmas tree was only of cultural significance in the present times, it would be put up in certain cultures only and not in every Christian household and every Church that can afford one. If you're a muslim and you have some spare cash lying around, instead of wasting it on a pointless tradition (be it Christmas trees or week long shaadis), use it wisely.
Kakabilli…thats just another reason for me to put up lights…thats all.
We have much bigger issues and problems…the least of our worries is assimilation into a non-desi culture. The last thing we should be worried about is how a tree impacts our Iman. It doesnt. Religion is not the same as culture. Christmas is a commercial holiday. Its no different from making a turkey on Thanksgiving or giving a card on Valentine’s Day or celebrating someone’s birthday or even an anniversary. These are all cultural practices.
My point here is not that you HAVE to have an x-mas tree or you SHOULD take your kids to see Santa in order to be a well adjusted member of society. Its more about if we as a people are so accepting of Hindu culture to the point of revolving ALL of our traditions around it…then what puts us in a position to condemn others when they put up a tree? How do we find it in our minds and hearts to even question that? Just because a gora does it? What about all the Muslim women in India that wear mangal sutars?
Let me make it even simpler…what about something so basic as a wedding ring. My grandmother didnt have a wedding ring. Its an American thing. Im sure all of us women will wear one or have worn one or are wearing one now. You think Islam taught us that?
With communist/socialist/Buddhist places like Beijing, Vietnam and Cambodia going crazy with X-mas mania, I don't think it has anything to do with religion anymore.

I don't have a Xmas tree but I really can't see the difference between that and buying chocolate eggs at Easter which strangely a lot of ppl who don't allow a Xmas tree will happily do..
everyone will have theri own reasons for putting one up or not.
I would just not put up a christmas tree because I dont want my son to grow up thinking this is something important or look forward to christmas. Once he is grown up and understands that he is a muslim and Eid is what is important for a muslim and is our celebration and that we give gifts or Eidi on Eid and not necessarily exchange presents on Christmas I may not have any problem then.
I find that raising a child is a very difficult job especially in western country where you have to make an extra effort to teach religion.
What ? xmas tree got no religious significance - nice one ! so is there a genius out of you - who would mind telling my the reason of putting a star at the top of the tree, a star representing the host of angels or the Star of Bethlehem from the Nativity :@:
