for an American friend who is having her second daughter? Any advice? I’m thinking a gift card should be my last resort, but if it does come to that, where should the gift card be from? Target or Macy’s or what? Help please!

its so cute and so appropriate for kids these days- i love it! it comes in a baby edition too.

oh, also, get the melanie watt chester series, and the scaredy squirrel books too. she's a french canadian author with a wicked sense of humour.

please give them a gift card or cash... they want their kids to wear their choice of clothes
they dont like the idea of toys too .. always trying to return the stuff without a receipt and any tags on.

Thank you for the suggestions! The only thing I'm concerned about is that she already has a 3 year old daughter, so it may be possible that they already have these books at home... any other suggestions?

it might not hurt to check the major chains for registry anyway, cuz many people don't mention it on the invite (bad etiquette). supposed to be a word of mouth kind of thing.

If you still want to get a gift card,why not get a simple Amex or Visa one in the amount you wish to spend.Store gift cards are good too but I still have a few of them left from the time I had my daughter 2 years ago.For example the Babies r us ones,I always found the same item for a lesser price online or somewhere else so never got to use them at Babies r us.I find the Visa/MC/Amex to be more practical and useful.

Ohhhh. Ok, sounds good. Now if I could be an even bigger pain, how exactly do I check for registries? And what would be considered a major chain for baby stuff? (I'm quite clueless as you can probably tell.)

The other thing that you could give is a book or blanket or baby chair or something that is personalized for the new baby. Pottery Barn Kids does some nice personlized stuff. And there are lots of places now where you can get story personalized and printed for specific kids.

(might also be nice to get something small for the big sis)

so give a gift receipt with the books so they can exchange them if they already have them. actually, have a gift receipt with any gift you purchase. if you get a personalized gift, make sure to double check the spelling of the baby's name!

If it was my baby shower, I'd love getting books.
You can give picture fame(s), album, blanket, bed set, books. I would not go for a visa card as they cut charges off the card. For gift card, go for a target gift card.
