so give a gift receipt with the books so they can exchange them if they already have them. actually, have a gift receipt with any gift you purchase. if you get a personalized gift, make sure to double check the spelling of the baby's name!
If it was my baby shower, I'd love getting books.
You can give picture fame(s), album, blanket, bed set, books. I would not go for a visa card as they cut charges off the card. For gift card, go for a target gift card.
Thank you everyone. I think I will go for either books or cute onesies or a gift card. Just need to go to the mall now. :)

Just a little information (I rechecked at the grocery store today..:D),the Amex/MC/Visa gift cards do have an expiration (unlike store cards)but they are usually 8-10 years later like in 2020 or 2022.The issuing bank starts deducting $2 or $3/month after 12 consecutive months of inactivity once the card has been used once and the entire funds are not used.The person who purchases these cards has to pay an activation fee (ranging between 2-6 dollars I think) at the time of purchase (unlike store giftcards).

other helpful (and useful item) ideas:
diapers- even in larger sizes as they will come in handy
wipes
bath towels and a cute robe
wash cloths with baby lotion, shampoo, body wash, oil, rash ointment (you can buy them in a gift basket or make one yourself)
