Re: What the Hell?
So, muslim kids shouldn't know the difference between a square and a triangle?!?
Our people are doomed. There isn't any hope with people like that around. Seriously.

She had that argument that children learn about the shapes in their schools(most likely to be secular schools) anyway so there's no need to waste your time in teaching them what they're already learning in some other place.
Re: What the Hell?
Hareem, her argument is flawed. Our religion mandates we learn about both deen and duniya. God created the world, so why not study science in a masjid as well as Quranic verses?
She might be intimidated because she doesn't remember the shapes too well herself...she mighta flunked KG a few times by the sounds of it.
I know masjids that have tutoring programs after-school. Is that inappropriate in this lady's book?
Sheesh, its the height of ignorance really.
You know, you aren't afraid to speak out here on the forums. So why don't you tell this lady to her face exactly how you feel instead of back-biting about her here on the forums, and raising my BP?

Backbiting? hmmm.......May Allah forgive me if this comes under backbiting and slandering.
Thanks for everyone's feedback...I'll surely tell her in a polite way the importance of the geometrical shapes in islam next time.
Re: What the Hell?
nah it doesnt come under backbiting :) we can call it sharing and taking advice from fellow guppies :) howzat ?
Re: What the Hell?
more appropriate if you say teaching strategies... ?
reminds me of a phrase in urdu......
jahan chah, wahan raah
similar to the english phrase
where there's a will, there's a way
Re: What the Hell?
Jee behen jee, I’ll pray for your maghfirat. Subhanallah and Ameen.

Re: What the Hell?
You need some lessons too for using Islamic greetings and prayers at the right and appropriate times.

i hope so.
Re: What the Hell?
back biting is done when you bear a grudge and want to disgrace someone.
here, hareem01 had simply expressed her concern over issue with educational instructional practices at an Islamic school.
we do believe in consultation and it is nice of her that she thought of this important incident in education work she does, to be brought to the forefront and to have sought perspectives from GS fellows.
i hope that with practical and well reasoned advice, Hareem01 feels empowered that she can stay grounded at her internship in a school and confidently speak her mind to address the dichotomy about how to teach at an Islamic school.
best always Hareem01 :)

I agree with Dushi. Thanks Dushi jee :k:

you're welcome chothey bahi. :)

Re: What the Hell?
confidently speak her mind
Yes, I do hope too that Hareem learns to speak her mind, in real life. Not just online.
Waise, there is a fine line between "consultation" and back-biting. She clearly is painting this school mistress to be an unreasonable person who has no consideration for the time she put into her work. That sounds a lot like complaining about your boss.
hehe Oh wait...that means Hareem is becoming American. Next thing you know, it'll be whining at happy hour.

PyariCgudia....I didn't lie about anything nor I accused her wrongly. Hope you also read this part.
Well its not a big issue...and afterall she is a person with much more Islamic knowledge than me and also with a good heart.
I don't want to indulge in a useless argument with you like I didn't argue with her.....I was broken heart after all the hard work being rejected so I opened this thread.
I hope things will get better when we'll understand each other's view one day.
Peace
Re: What the Hell?
Actually its this type of mentality that I'm afraid of. Please explain yourself, instead of being sarcastic and ...
What's there to explain? Don't associate with stupid Salafis next time and become a true muslim.
Re: What the Hell?
Imagine that you are going to help in an Islamic after school in the nursery for 1 hour once in a week, you prepare after the first meeting of teachers and helpers, you plan the lesson for first week that includes Introduction(teaching children to say Islamic greetings ....but the main teacher makes strange faces and says " these shapes has nothing to do with Islam" , " our organization means every thing should be related to ISLAM", " they teach these things in the non muslim nurseries as well".
Oh this sounds familar...
Some people just don't know how to give criticism. But the thing is...if you're out there doing work for others, and your work needs to be evaluated by a certain group of people...you need to expect all sorts of reactions. You also need to know how to take criticism.
It's hard, but ignore the attitude and attempt to see the points being raised. I found that if I work towards a particular, well defined set of goals, in addition to the approval of my peers or superiors, this tends to be easier. I find it easier to communicate my own ideas when I'm challenged. Not only that, you can take up the goals with the very people you need approval from, so you know if you're on the right track.
Don't take it personally. Just understand that different people react in different ways.

I honestly didn't understand what you meant by "when ther's a will, there's a way" in relation to psychology and teaching strategies.
So are you like the program manager or coordinator or something? You said that you asked her to submit four week lesson plan. I think 4 weeks lesson plan is too much, go for 1 week or 2 weeks. 1 week is the norm.
Re: What the Hell?
huh? All salafies aren’t like that.
Thanks…I’m just demotivated.

She’ll be writing the plans but I’ll be typing it and sending it by email to other members. Lets see if she can do it even for the 2 weeks.
