he has had this online relationship with a girl, and he really likes her and all.
he was ready to send his parents to the girl’s when she dropped the bomb.
she had told him that she was 22 but now she said that actually she is 16 and that she is afraid her parents would go nuts.
now my friend is puzzled and confused. on one hand, he has the feeling that he found the perfect girl, but then he thinks he was cheated or something. he feels sort of guilty having courted a teenage girl.

so what should he do?
Seriously? There's a 11 year age gap. He thought he was chatting to a girl who was 22. It's not his fault. If she has lied about her age then there's going to be other important stuff she has lied about.
My advice? He should cut his loses now. I know it's easier said than done; however he needs to look at the bigger picture which in reality is quite worrying.
in this so called online relationship, he never bothered to look at a pic/skype with her? trust me 16 year olds look much much younger than 22 year olds. 16 year old grls are at 11th/12th grade level (they look like babies) but a 22 yr old grl looks a little bit older. i know some ppl would like to differ but from my personal experience i can tell 16 yr old from a 22 yr old.
I think she was just doing time pass & now as your friend became serious about this relationship & wanted to take next step she became 16 all of a sudden & is scared of her parents too... lol .... have your friend ever met her in person ?

only because she is 16? what if she were 36?? Would he still think he found the perfect match? I think he SHOULD be feeling cheated anyways.... you didn't mention how long have they been in relation? Whats the depth of their relationship? Is it only liking or loving?? Also, did they not see eachother already? if no, how was he ready to send his parents before seeing her.... if yes, how could he not realise she is 16 and not 22!!
He should move on. She’s 16 and pretended to be 22. Assuming they talked about things like school, activities etc…that means she lied about most things along the way. How can he even be sure that she wasn’t chatting with other guys while talking to him?
girls can definitely look older or younger than their age BUT I believe there are these certain periods of a girl’s life where it is hard to guess her age. Like if a girl is 25, its difficult sometimes guess what exactly is her age, she might look 20, 22 or if she has older features then she can even look 28, 30 too… 16 and 22 is actually not a age but its a lot of growth difference between a girl who is 16 and who is 22. You grow bigger in such age and your features start to change from a young girl to a mature girl. If he would say she is actually 22 but she said she was 28, it would have made no difference… BUT a 22 year old girl’s feature can definitely differ from the girl who is sweet 16!! Why is Sweet 16 even used as an idiom…because world knows… sweet sixteen is REALLY SWEET SIXTEEN!

Oh god.
It's not that complicated.
Yes, at 16 and 22 you can look very different but that doesn't mean you can't look older than your age at 16.
They had been talking for like a year. And come on, as some people have mentioned, its not that easy to figure out, especially from a picture or webcam. and she is surprisingly mature as well, he didn't have a reason to doubt.
As far as lying goes the girl has apologised and told the reason., she said that she did it initially so that he wouldn't cut off, and then she couldn't find the courage to tell him because , well you know, she liked him a lot too.
The guy likes the girl because their personalities match and they click with each other. The guy is just confused what to make of it.
PS: they both are in Pakistan, so no legal problem :D
If the story is really true, what is there to think about. [Cut your losses and run. If the girl has lied about her age, then she would have lied about a lot of other things as well. ] quoted from Princess just to reiterate.
I do not believe 16 year old girls can pass of as 22 unless the guy is a complete moron.
There are 13 years olds who look 20. I don't understand why some people find it so hard to believe that he didnt figure out she was younger.
A lot of 16 years old girls are quite matured already look-wise.
May be she is not interested anymore and made up all this to scare your friend away. In any case its time for your friend to move and find someone else.
^That's whats most likely happened. Maybe she's just saying she's 16 to get out of this? It's a possibility. If she really is 16 then it's wise for him to just leave.

I gotta say as I said before I think the dude should run; run like the wind. I'm sorry but if a relationship is created on lies it's not on strong foundations from the word go. And even if your 'friend' gets over this what happens if said girl lies about something small later on? Your friend is only human and will begin to wonder what else has been lied about.
Noone can really expect him to have control over his heart and clearly in his heart and mind he's formed a relationship with this girl. Realistically that girl DOESN'T actually exist. She's actually a teenager. She's possibly craving attention; or worse looking for a guy whose older as he will be established with a job etc and she can start livin' la vida loca.
As for not looking her age (possibly) there is every chance:
the girl dolled herself up and LOOKED older (I've seen this happen with my own eyes)
she actually looks older than her age-that's quite normal especially in girls who hit puberty in their early teens
she used photos of other people who looked older (and if your friend hasn't met the girl face to face this could still be the case)
If I was in your position I'd be worried about my friend because I'd be wondering:
how many other guys is this girl chatting to? If she can lie to one person....
is she actually a girl?!
is any of the info she gave true?
What type of family does she come from? Are they ultra conservative and this girl is looking for attention in the wrong places to rebel?
Does her family know about her online activities and ALLOW her to do this? Because that's just nasty!
...and like a millions other quesions as I would be thinking the girl is taking my friend for a ride on the mug mobil!

Is the 'friend' actually you? tbh this is what you get if its online and you've never met the person online. How could your friend honestly tell that shes 'the one'? If you've never met each other. Its kinda weird sorry to say. Now that your friend has found out that shes 16, just drop it. Leave it. There is too much of an age gap. It wouldn't work. Your friend is an adult and is more wise whereas the girl is barely a teenager. It couls be of course that the girl was just trolling on your friend, and intended to not 'be with him' at all. Just be more careful next time and for gods sake get to know the person properly and check if it is legit.
