What motivates Taliban?

kakaballi,

History of Taliban’s goes back to late eighties when they were fighting with Russian's in Afghanistan. Their foundations were laid with the help of army and US aid. Motivation at that time was fighting Kufr and kicking them out of Afghanistan. (Both ISI and US aid misguided them, their intentions were different) They were and still are highly motivated by religion and their tribal traditions. The brand of Islam they were practicing was acceptable to every Paki during eighties and nineties. After 911, the turn around of Mush created hatred and cracks in the unity. People who support western agenda were considered by them as kaafirs siding with kaafirs, hence suicide bombings and killings their own people.

The religion is the weakest point and most dangerous, where un-employed youth can easily come in to trap of these Taliabans who are fighting for two reasons.

  1. Kicking out foreign forces from their lands
  2. For sake of implementing their brand of religion.

They are still being supported by many Pakis, whether you like it or not, which also includes the faction of military whose faith matches with their faith. They are being financed foreign countries and local donations. This fight will continue for a very long time, this is the fight of ideology and self recognition.

I think money and power has nothing to with it. It is purely an unrealistic thinking.
