If you're working from home, own a business, it's still a job. She's not doing housework or being 'just' a housewife.
Same logic applies if she's studying from home.

I am so offended that people think that my job as a mother and a housewife is dull, boring and makes me a free loader. I think it makes my husband a free loader, since i devote 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to him, our daughter and our house. I never get a break, while those who go to work, can get a break when they come home. I wake up several times a night for my daughter, i make sure my husband comes home to a clean house, he has clean laundary and fresh food on the table each day.
Me, a free loader? I think not!

In this economy a lot of educated girls are finding themselves without jobs...and if they're married they're labeled as 'freeloader housewives'? That's not fair! Also In defense of housewife mothers I have to say one of the main roles of a muslimah is to have children and pass on our deen- you can't expect kids to learn that from nannies...

It’s a fact that most working wives share household duties with their husbands(which is OK) whereas, we don’t! Almost all of them cook 2-3 days supply of food in advance so they don’t have to cook so often. I know cooking and cleaning doesn’t take more than a couple hours but neither are most people at workplace working all of 8 hours they’re at work! Don’t try to fool us coz some of us used to have jobs too and we know there are plenty of opportunities to chill with co-workers or go online and browse the web/check emails at workplace. I’m not trying to criticize anyone here, to work or not to stay home and take full responsibility of home both require a lot of effort and it’s upto each individual to decide what she wants to do…infact, it’s a mutual decision! My husband and I feel this is best for us that I stay at home, he does not want to come home and cook/heat up his food/clean home/whatever household task that working couples share and it’s perfectly fine…No one has a right to comment or criticize us in any way, period!

I agree with Corrupt Angel. Moreover, staying at home and letting your husband provide for both of your doesn't make you a freeloader, just like cooking for him/family doesn't make you a 'cook', or cleaning house or doing laundry doesn't make you a maid. It's just a different division of work as I see it, and if both husband and wife are happy with it I don't see why others must come and judge them for it or pass judgmental comments?
And for heaven's sake, it's not as if all housewives are dumb, with no brains...just like going out for a job doesn't make you a genius. One can always improve one's mind by reading and other intellectual pursuits..even sitting at home!!

If a man works from home or runs his business from home, does that suddenly make him a househusband?
I don't think any of the 'career' or 'independent' women here or anywhere else that you are talking about say it's a bad thing if a woman is at home but ACTIVELY DOING SOMETHING other than just chores, shopping or hanging out with friends.
You started off talking about what's wrong with being solely a homemaker and now it's all "oh there is so much more a woman can do from home etc etc".
So now you agree with us that there is more to be done than just looking after the home and being a housewife?

Its very hard for a working women to adjust to staying at home, personally I couldn't do it I'm happier when I'm busy. but I know many who do and are happy. I feel like If I was to stay at home I'll wake up one day 20 years from now and think to myself what did I achieve in those 20 years by doing washing, hoovering, watching tv etc. don't know. I just feel like we have been given a life and we should make the most of it, but thts just my opinion

How much shopping can you do? I shop for a hobby, and I get tired going to the mall two consecutive days in a row.
Completely agree. How many hotshot CEOs can do the same thing successfully? None. A stay at home wife’s job never ends. Women like you should be praised for what “modern” society ignores - no cook can make food with the same love, no babysitter can love a child like a mother loves her own. even those who have money should realize that certain things are priceless.
Free loader is a horrible term and should never be used. It’s the working husbands who are so lucky to have women in their lives who will do so much more than any salaried man could earn.

If you work from home, you aren't a housewife. You are considered employed and have to file a tax return stating your income ....
don't confuse the terms.

I personally think its better to work, but only if the husband partakes in house work too. If not, balancing work, kids, home is really hard. That said, I plan to work no matter what. I seen and heard to many horror stories who divorced women with little or no work experience scramble to get their lives and finances together. That said, I still respect housewives and I think that they should have respect for career women. As women we are always being JUDGED. If we are housewives. then we are lazy and opportunistic. If we are career women, we are careless and selfish mothers or wives. That said, I wouldnt be surprised if more women start working, even if they dont really want too. In this day and age (in the West anyhow), living on one income is harder than it used to be. Women's salaries contribute substantially to the household; it is not mere change. Anyhow, think women should do what makes them happy, especially when they have kids. Children notice happiness.

Working from home and being a housewife in my opinion are not two seperate things but are the same thing in essentials. If someone says to me that I have a jewellery business which runs from home and I cook and clean then it is the same thing to me! She is just given a different label of being a businesswoman!!
No, I think the career women here have been quite narrow minded and have a tunnel approach to life. Everything for them is just black and white. I mean some have called housewives as freeloaders! How rude is that!? I work and have a good career but I would never say that about a woman who stays at home and raises her children or cleans for her husband regardless of whether she goes out and spends his money. She is entitled to spend it and has a right to spend it!

What about housewives who have nannies/cleaning ladies to help with the care of their children and upkeep of the home - would that invalidate the value of a woman staying at home?
I've got friends like this. They are stay-at-home moms who gave up careers to be home with their kids but they have help.
