I am sick of single girls who say that they don’t want to marry and become “just a housewife” like it’s a death wish or something.
IMO, a housewife incorporates elements of numerous professions, like:
they cook well - chef
look after their children and their medical needs - nurse/doctor
keep their houses clean and well presented - interior decorators
teach their children manners and discipline - teacher
keep the house in a good working order - manager
The only difference is that they dont get paid and/or don’t get appreciated for the effort they put into their work. But even working a 9-5 job isn’t the bees knees and you’re never going to be earning enough anyway!
I also think we should realise that although Islam has given us the freedom to work, it also says we should be queens of our homes, and sorry to say, but I’d rather be a queen than just an “employee”.
I think few people who think that way, use the notion that they are not ''useful members of society'' . As if only working in companies is being useful . I think women taking care of the future generations are doing one awesome job .
Many people think that one can only be a contributer to society (or as NaMmaan said useful member of the society ) ONLY if she goes out and work. IMO women can be as important of a contributer or in fact even more of a contributer as housewife. I bet many of the teenage kids who are behind bars for stabbing this, stealing that would have been better off had theie mom's choose to stay home and raise them.
Now in some cases, women really does not have a choice but to go out and earn but that does not make housewifes any less important member of a society

well said Decent Chora....but alot of girls these days are putting off marriage simply because they don't want to be a housewife and stay at home.
I think they should realise that they wouldnt have had an education or a good job if it wasnt for their mothers who had to cook and clean for them to ensure they could do their homework/studies! It's like they are insulting their mothers by saying we don't want to be a "housewife".
^ well put. personally i think there's nothing wrong with someone who wants to be a housewife but it's not the way for me right now. i wouldn't mind being a housewife after i've been married a few years and had a baby but i wouldn't want to be a house way straight off. i'd rather enjoy married life and work for a few years and build up savings before settling down into the housewife+kids thing.

How can a lady be MORE of a contributor to society as a housewife? I can understand if the lady is involved with some outside organizations, maybe volunteering etc....but otherwise please describe some ways. Also no offence, but how do you know these kids in jails did not have a mom at home. I doubt that is always the case. Plenty of kids have the mother at home, but NOT the attention/love/concern/role model etc. If we look at it this way and generalize I know plenty of families (desi) where the mother stayed home, but a few kids are STILL involved in trouble situations...even some where the Amma is religous, even practices etc....how do you explain that? I have also seen families where the mom works and Mashallah the kids turn out wonderful, the house is well kept....etc....

Without kids, house is sparkling clean, takes only couple of hours to cook, etc. once you have kids, I believe in being a housewife if possible but before that I dun see the purpose. Sorry if I have offended anyone, just my two cents!
I think the "just a housewife" idea comes because it is "obvious." It's a known life path. Many people don't want something predictible, even if the predictible path is a good and valuable one.

And some of the things the original poster mentioned a housewife does are very simple, not rocket science and takes at most a few hours, NOT the whole day....if you manage your time well.

yeah i agree. without kids it would be boring, if i was in that situation i'd take a p/t job up. to me it makes more sense to be a housewife when u have kiddies

If you read it again, topic is not AGAINST the working working women but its against the perception that somehow WORKING WOMEN is more entitled or better women than housewife who decided to say home and raise kids.
For some reason if some girl shows a desire to be housewife she is chanted as "jahil" and "backward" by non other but her own friends. This is what the post is about.
The only problem I have ever forseen in being a housewife is boredome. This usually happens when you don't have kids .... and if you had a 9-5 job before.
The thing is, if you have worked your whole life, it becomes a routine. When you don't have kids and you become a housewife after marriage, it can be a really difficult adjustment. You don't have that routine anymore, there are no kids to keep you busy and you have to basically establish a new routine. For some people, this can be a challenge.
It doesn't take all day to cook a meal and clean a house. Especially if you are an early riser, you basically have the whole day to do .... what?
Nothing is wrong with being a housewife...it actually must be quite rewarding...at least in that circumstance you are bettering your family and household instead of increasing the sales of an organization. (not that there is anything wrong with wanting to work either :P)
I'm pretty sure they say "I don't want to be a housewife yet". As far as I can tell, most are prepared and quite happy to stay at home once they start a family.
But before then there is no real need, house stuff is not so time consuming that you need to be there all day and most people want to challenged a bit more than that. More women are choosing not to rush into being at home full time and what's wrong with that?
Unfortunately for the bulk of our society marriage = kids asap, so no wonder girls are wanting to delay it a bit.
And yes blah blah I know there are a few lucky souls with a supportive network who can marry young, have kids and still study to be doctors or whatever.
I have absolutely nothing against working women. I work as well and I respect housewives alot! They're job may not be rocket science but it requires alot of balancing nonetheless!
My main issue is that single girls make judgement calls about housewives when they have no idea what it's like to be one. They also think that as soon as a person marries they are tied to the kitchen sink. It's demoralising and very negative.
I'm allo for being a housewife. It would be a great change to my life where currently, I actually WORK for my material possessions. Who doesn't wanna be a freeloader?
