cool breeze, yes you enjoy it because you are from lahore or parents are from there or that region.
Lahore does get more tourists compared to other cities e.g. quetta or peshawar, but is it in the top 100 vacation or tourist destinations in the world?
YOu know, Lahore can be in top 100 because of its history. we have like some thing in every cornor of old lahore. We have other stupid issues that prevent tourists from visiting.
and yes, my family belongs to Lahore. My forefathers were from Lahore. but this is not the reason that makes me like it. I might be attached to it because of it but it doesn't make it interesting.
you can't find such rich culture anywhere else. if you get chance, visit the place and you will know
can be ** is not the same as **is in top 100
as far as culture and history goes, why do we assume we have the only places with culture and history, what about turkey, or china, or Japan, or Syria or Jordan, or India, or Italy, or Spain, or Morocco, or Egypt,
as I said, it is a decent place, but lets not make it to be more than it is
the shopping is far from world class, the dining is far from world class, facilities are far from world class.
It needs a whole lot of work to make it visitor and tourist friendly. and then it will be in a place to try and compete with other cities.
We, Pakistanis, are living in complacencies! And these complacencies are a great hurdle in our progress!
Pakistan ka nehri nizam dunya ka sab say bara nehri nizam hia! Pakistan wahid aatmi islami mulk hia! Pakistan islam ka qila hia! Too many complacencies! Muslaman sainsdano nay sab kuch ijad kiya tha!
you are right. we have issues that need to be resolved but it doesn't take the imp of the city away.
well, lets not go in the details. Other countries do have some fabulous history. Lahore's history is totally comparable too. I myself have seen toursits being all surprised while visitng the city.
As far as quality of the shopping is concerned.
trust me you can totally compare the clothing material to any place in the world. I myself have done shopping in nice places around the world but I've never liked the material and prints and color combinations anywhere else. you will find the same material female shirt here for over 100 dollars.
Jewellery - the designs are far better than a lot of places. and am not talking about the huge gold sets.
and Dining, we have some fabulous continental, Paki food restaurants. am not talkijng about food streets even though that is something unique too.
You can pretty much find everything in Lahore now. all those brands etc etc.
Facilities, yes that is the problem including the security.
but i totally understand what you mean. It makes sense. I am just clarifying a few things.:)
as I said, it is a decent place, but lets not make it
the shopping is far from world class, the dining is far from world class, facilities are far from world class.
It needs a whole lot of work to make it visitor and tourist friendly. and then it will be in a place to try and compete with other cities.
My brother went to Delhi recently! He shopped things so much cheaper than we purchase here in Karachi! He bought a very good travelling bag for just Rs.100.00 which would cost in Karachi not less than 500!
The main problem with us that we are not patriotic! We do not love our country! We only talk about it! The day we actually begin to love it, our country will be on its way to progress and so will be its cities!
its not that we don't love our country. We actually do but we are just lazy to do anything about it.
you know, just like those students who love to get 4 GPA or all A grades but don't study.
even lahore or karachi are not tourist places but i think its my home land and i respect it and cannot say anything about it.Both of our cities are great.
respect should not cloud objectivity.
there are issues, they need to be identified, accepted and then something done about it, staying mum will mainain status quo, or keep us on teh slope of deterioration which is not good.
cool breeze, I will use Karachi as an example. while it has a good selection of textile, it is not the biggest or the most diverse etc, but I agree it is very good.
so you looked at ladies shirts. In my experience the overall quality, and selection is very lacking, unless you are getting things custom made. In terms of men’s clothing, shoes, there is a lot to be desired.
I dont know about jewelry, but again, if jewelry is my goal then I can get good jewelry in other cities as well. so yes Lahore may be better than many, but there are others that are better than it or comparable.
as far as dining and entertainment goes, I would suggest looking up the weekly or monthly events taking place in NYC or London or Chicago or LA or Toronto, or Barcelona or Paris.. or even dubai and you will see what I mean.
Facilities are a huge issue, we dont even have decent public washrooms.
I think we have had more success in tourism to northern areas than to the cities for the reason that cities just dont lend themselves well to foriegn tourists.
Yes i know environmentally major Pakistani cities literally interpret into "Pollution Rulz".. with the exception of Islamabad and perhaps Rawalpindi.. however ppl go there to enjoy the recklessness the cities have to offer (talk about making the most delicious food you've ever seen on top of a garbage dump)
May be for u.. these cities are important since we live there.. they are wonderful cities to live and enjoy life.. many have come back to live here from the so-called world class cities.. no one can judge importance of such cities unless one actually live there not that their parents or grand parents lived there.. my great parents always remember with passion their hometowns in Indian punjab.. I have visited many cities in west including Chicago, Vancouver, Toronto, LA, SF etc. They are great cities to visit to me but not livable.. On only loves gthe place where one is brought up.. If there opens some world class restaurants, infrastructure etc in Lahore - it wont enhance my love for lahore at all..
of course people like the places they are in. I mean people live in crapholes like buffalo and like it as well.
people who have gone back have gone back because they consider those cities home, and have fond memories.
I diagree with the statement that one only loves the place one was brought up in. I spent my childhood in London, Riyadh and Karachi, and majority of the time of that i Riyadh but have no intention of moving there, I have nostalgia for the place I spent my childhood at but that place is not the same, the time is not the same and I am not the same. Similarly for karachi, a city I like, I can probably go back and live there but if and until that happens, its a city that I go to see relatives, and as the elders there have passed away, my reasons to go are less and less.
the question is are we talking livable cities, good vacation and tourism cities, and from what perspective. From an objective point of view, or from the point of view of someone who has feelngs for the city because they call it home.
and yes opening up mor restaurants and fixing infrastructure will not enhance your love, but it may make the place a little more attractive as a place to visit by people who dont have any or little emotional/sentimental attachment to it…and that is my point.
