What is religion?

Re: What is religion?

^Nope didn't make any judgmental statements, if you actually read the whole thread :). Try reading the previous posts and then reply :)

Re: What is religion?

I don't post w/out reading. Perhaps we could both do the same. :)

Re: What is religion?

ok but did I say that a person would go to hell because they don't agree with me or my beliefs or my perception of God?

Re: What is religion?

what she is telling is, some people openly say my path is the correct and right one..that too when they know that they don’t know as to what God will do to whom:D.

PS: i have no problem if someone says he is on the right path and others are on wrong path, unless and untill he is prepared to listen similar arguments from others to prove him wrong:snooty:

Re: What is religion?

But you were so sure that GOD would NOT punish…or vice versa…

How do you know?

See what i mean…

Thanks. :waves: bye

Re: What is religion?

Thanks....

See yaa

As Muslims we are required by our faith to respect you as individuals whether you are Muslim or non-Muslim, we are not allowed to create jest of anyones faith lest we should expect people to jest with ours. However, we are also required to enjoin good and use reason and compassion to bring people closer towards mutual understanding. We do not expect anyone to change their faith nor are we allowed to say such and such will go to heaven or hell, that is God's decision. What we are allowed to say is ... that in the Qur'an God says this about those who do this ... to accept whether that was or was not God is based on two things:

1) Reason and Reflection
2) Guidance and an open heart seeking guidance

You can take up the challenge of the Qur'an ... by ignoring it or by saying it okay for us and not okay for you ... is it not unfair to say anything regarding it until one is qualified to do so? We subject the Qur'an to scrutiny it tells us to do this, so why can we not subject other religious scriptures to the same level of scrutiny?

Re: What is religion?

Since you want to speak on her behalf…i’ll answer you as well!

That maybe…what she “meant” but in what she said, she was pretty sure about God will NOT do.

i’ve quoted her..i’m not making it up.

Often our words get us in a sticky situation. Which is why i said i do respect her beliefs, and i know she intended good.

Re: What is religion?

Great i respect your beliefs totally and you respect mine. Problemis this does not exist, i dont see a hindu doing it, a muslim, a christian or a jew, tell me who will do it.
Forget about religion we people are tolerant with each others view. Talk about the time when we were kids if someone contradicts us our tolerance levels are touching the ground. So is this a religious problem or an individualistic problem. Look into other non-religious threads in the same forum they are so many indifferences existing and do you find tolerance i should say with in the least bit.

Now all the non-religious ones want to blame this stuff on religion i wanna ask WHY is there any answer. Is someone promoting tolerance, none.

Talk about religion talking about going to hell or heaven, does that make sense where is humanity going no where.

But one thing is for sure, no one actually does what God wants us to do, have done that after all we blame God for no reason.

Re: What is religion?

i'm not following any particular religious scriptures, i've taken certain parts of what I like from all religions/belief systems that make sense to me and that don't put down other beliefs and incorporated them into my own personal beliefs. These beliefs make me happy and i feel they are right for me.

Re: What is religion?

@Mirch and teaser, BarakAllah fi ka

@indo pak
again, your approach and analogies are wrong. No one here is saying that go and destroy the other religion with force and violence. No one is telling you to blindly follow the religious books. Let me ask you this: how do we define morals? Originally someone defined them for us and now we simply buy it. Why is that? btw according to atheists every single atheist can come up with his/her own morals, which seems logical to that person. Indeed, without any doubt, this leads to conflicts.

As i told you before, we are not the one to decide what is the purpose of our existence. It has been already decided, like it or not. We never willed ourselves to be here; therefore, the option is out of the question. We only have the choice to choose between what would benefit us. We are limited in our thoughts; hence, we do not know what is good for us. Therefore, we need a divine guidance to help us along the life.

Why do people always look at this matter from a violent perspective? If one student tells other student that he would fail the course and the other student tells the first student same thing, does it mean they both would start fighting?

anyway, let's stick to the topic: prove God exists!

Re: What is religion?

I guess she spoke about that as her definition of God is different than yours

-For her, God can never be cruel just because a person is atheist or for not belonging to a religion
-For you, God can be cruel if a person doesn't belong to any group or if anyone doesn't "submit" to him.

But both are saying they are not judgemental and they don't know as to what God will do to them...:D..

Or both of you guys know as to what God will do to them, not just to themselves but also for others??..

Leave it..For me, Let anyone tell/believe anything they want. Anyone can come and question my beliefs whenever I am free, only thing is, be prepared to get questioned:)

Re: What is religion?

Can you show me where i "meant" or said that? in the course of replying to her....? :)

It's ok to assume. Just be prepared and know when to assume and when not to. :D

Re: What is religion?

If you have invented your own God then you are free to attach any kind of attributes to your virtual God . It is product of your own imagination. My Allah has told me to follow a certain path if I need to be successfull on the day of Judgement. He is the only one who can judge justly. I also told you Allah gives you freedom of choice. I also told you that Allah in Quran has told the holy prophet (SAW) to tell the non believers "say for me my way and for you yours" . Also Allah says that there is no compulsion in His religion. You are free to choose the way you want to lead your life.

Re: What is religion?

Teggy, I didn’t say that I know for sure and that i’m a 100% sure but I just will not believe that God would send a Muslim, atheist or anybody else that doesn’t agree with a certain belief would go to hell or would suffer in a such a way. I personally don’t want to believe in that. I believe God to be one to promote peace between human beings.

Re: What is religion?

yes i assumed:D...I assumed that every muslim staunchly believes in quran..and with your posts am damn sure you are proud to be a muslim and hence in quran. So i assumed that you should be believing that unbelievers are at a receiving end in quran(which quran is quite candid about it).

Ofcourse, I have no problem if anyone tells that also(though earlier i had)

Re: What is religion?

this is your personal belief not a reality. Everyone coming up with their own personal beliefs is creating conflicts and if we start following atheists' theory that let everyone come up with their own moral code then things will get even worse

anyway, i don't think i'll be hitting my head to the wall anymore, unless ipundit comes back with decent rebuttal to my arguments.

Re: What is religion?

So since your belief follows what the Quran says then that makes your belief more of a reality?? Ouch! I hope that's not what you're saying and plus I never labeled myself as an atheist

Re: What is religion?

After the opening chapter of the Qur'an the next thing you'll read is ' Alif Laam Meem. This is the Book wherein there is no doubt '.

With a statement like this one can only read it and check to see if there really is no doubt, have you done this yet?

Re: What is religion?

That pretty much says it all.

Good day to you!
