What is a "good" salary?

Re: What is a "good" salary?

the reasons you listed are in line with my first reason.

come on man, i dont hvae to tell you how many desis are making a mockery of the system there.

ppl living in council housing, making money under the table, and collecting dole..the national stats on unemployment trends prove that as well.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

depends, if we are talking NYC and Chicago then it can get you a good flat downtown.
if you move out to suburbs then your purchasing power increases considerably

Re: What is a "good" salary?

yeah i guess but youre talking about the dodgier charachters im talking about like professionals and expats etc etc

Re: What is a "good" salary?

well not all expats are all squeaky clean brotha man.
I am a londoner myself, so saw all kinds of characters growing up.
I even recall a joker caught who was collecting dole from several different councils back in the 80's at that time the records were not linked so dude lived it up on tax dollars of your and my families :)

but other than that yeah, educated desia re doing very well there. I look at my cousins and friends, and anyone who wanted to do well is doing well.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

That's like more than a million dollars. Annual salary of a million dollar would mean a mansion, several nice cars, and many girl friends.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

oh well im a foreign student here so dont pay much tax ;)

Re: What is a "good" salary?

I dont think he was asking for a million dollar salary but what type of property can someone buy for a million plus dollars.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

yeah i didnt mean salary i saying that london property is too expensive and was asking about my flat compared with property i could get in the states of a similar price range

Re: What is a "good" salary?

but who wants to go to the states anyway... europe is the place to be

Re: What is a "good" salary?

Exactly! Europe is far better from US and Canada.
Its more expensive but hey, there are others major plusses.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

Would you prefer to live in UK or elsewhere?

Re: What is a "good" salary?

well ive been here 3 years and i got one more year to go....... I guess i'l only keep living here after i graduate if i get a high paying job so i can maintain my luxurious lifestyle once my parents stop paying for me ha ha ha :D

becoz its wayyyy expensive to live comfortably in london

Re: What is a "good" salary?

Are all you guys answering in this thread living in Wazirstan or some place...
Here I am in SF Bay Area (US) struggling to make ends meet even while earning much more than what is the consensus "good salary" (for the US) in this thread.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

what figure did u arrive at as the 'consensus' good salary then?

Re: What is a "good" salary?

immigration patterns show more europeans move to US than vice versa.
:D

Re: What is a "good" salary?

Is this the place where you landed first? couse where ever a person land first, they get attached to the place, as long you have family living with you, any good luck when you gradute and also hope you get a high paying job so you can have a good life in future. GOOD LUCK.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

well it depends on peoples preferences but i like europe mainly because of its history and all the different cultures and the ability to hop on a a plane or train and go on short weekend holidays all over the place...

i also think that london will overtake NY as the financial center of the world in the near future

Re: What is a "good" salary?

sure man, but when we say europe is better than US, we have to realize its pretty subjective and varies by people's own perspectives, on a quantitative basis of course more people are moving from EU to US than vice versa.

as far as financial capital moving from NY to London, quite possible, but even now London has enough going for it, so if it overtakes NY, then NY would still have enough going for it. i.e. a lot of opportunities to go around for the right people.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

Whats the % of people living under poverty level in US?
And those European moving to US, are the elite and already
mostly established kinda ones taking huge sums with em,
to flee tax daddy.....lol
US is really backwards in many ways.
Heck, UK is twenty-thirty years behind from Scandinavian countries.
Scandinavian students get their fees paid in US by their country of origin.
Plus they get a sum to live for too, without having to pay it back ever!

Re: What is a "good" salary?

Not correct.

of course its scandinacian technology that is running your PC and the internet right now isn't it? :)

Last time I checked I did not see many world class companies based in scandinavia. or universities for that matter :)

I go back and look at the new products coming out of US and then compare it to scandinavian countries, and they combined dont have as many patents as teh state of california, imagine that.

So do kuwaiti and saudi students, plus they get tickets to go back home every year etc. Guess theya re more advanced that scandinavian countries.
