I go back and look at the new products coming out of US and then compare it to scandinavian countries, and they combined dont have as many patents as teh state of california, imagine that.

Yup...nobody beats America in entrepreneruship. Period. What you don't get in Europe are the companies that started in a garage....HP, Microsoft, Apple, Ebay, YouTube....and so on.
Research as well...in terms of private and public funding for labs, America is tops.

Re: What is a “good” salary?

Saab is an american company :snooty:
yeah you can name a few companies.
but lets talk about boeing, motorola, IBM, apple, oracle, microsoft, siebel, i2, GE.

there are many good universities, but could these compare to harvard, MIT, stanford, Penn, Princeton, yale, UCLA, USC, Chicago, johns hopkins, berkeley, Michigan, Northwestern. I doubt it.

Indeed, by financial times global MBA program rankings IMD is indeed 13.
the ones ahead of it are harvard, wharton, columbia, standord, chicago, newyork uni (stern), Cornell, dartmouth, Yale. you can count how many US unis are in top 100, or even UK. then try and find where scandinavian business schools show up in the top 100.

if we look at just the eruropean business school rankings, we can see how scandinavian schools stack up against U, French and spanish schools

Re: What is a "good" salary?

There are + for both sides of the Atlantic.

As for a consensus, it seems its all relative. At this time in my life, current situation as it is, £20/k would be cool for me, but not for a family man. Understand?

Is the cost of living in Canada low?

Re: What is a "good" salary?

This is a sane view :) there are no absolutes.

compared to UK, yes, quite a bit

Re: What is a "good" salary?

Seen.

I havent known a desi to go from UK to Canada (Mad_scientist did didnt he, but I dont know him), but quite a few who have branched out to America.

Any particular reason?

Re: What is a "good" salary?

$50K - $60K salary is enough for a husband/wife to survive in Texas. Average apartment, 2 cars, and not too many expenses. After a few years of savings, one can afford a house too, in an middle class area.

Re: What is a “good” salary?

and then the guy tranfers over and goes to..

everyone knows about lund uni, i thought i would add another contender to the list.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

2 cars?

Re: What is a "good" salary?

abay its texas we are talkign about, its carbon body print there man, not just footprint.

Re: What is a "good" salary?

I see.

Would you ever consider a return to the UK?

Re: What is a "good" salary?

consider it, sure. I love UK.
I am just settled here now, and dont want to move around too much. kinda did that growing up.

I had all intentions to come back to UK after my MBA, but due to family neds I had to drop out of business school and return part time, by the time i was done, i figured that most of my friends and contacts were in US and not in UK, so it would be better for me to be here. most of my extended family is here, same for my wife's family.

I am very torn between UK and US, would love to be in a position where I spend a few months out of the year in UK for work.
