I know that this is a very basic schoolyard concept but I was wondering if it is all true: Does “what goes around comes around” actually happen? Meaning that if you are rude/bad/evil towards others it will come back to you?
Good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to good people. Are we truly in control of the circumstances? Honest opinions needed instead of the usual “try to be a good person” line.

Well....I do believe in "what goes around comes around," but not necessarily "good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to good people." I think good and bad things can happen whether you are good or bad yourself.
I've seen several instances of what goes around comes around...just one instance, my aunt was always pointing out how heavy two of our cousins were and now her daughter is big herself.
I've seen good things happen to both good and bad people....but I do think that those who are good are rewarded more for their deeds in the afterlife and that in a way, we should see hardship as a blessing because God tests you to see whether you remember Him in hard times....which to me, means He is giving you another chance in a way.

The concept of bad things happening to good people , its maybe a test of one's convictions . We are in control of our circumstances to a large extent and we should take responsibility for the things that happen to us because they are a result of our decisions.
I believe in it. I think it's more than a classic quotation. The concept is supported in various ways in many religions. For example Allah says that anyone who has done an atom of good will see it.....if we do an atom of evil, we will see it. The Prophet SAWS warned us from hurting others because he said that there is no barrier/screen between Allah and the dua of one who has been wronged because it is guaranteed/promised acceptance.
We don't know what goes on in the lives of others. The grass might appear "greener" on the other side......but closer inspection can reveal otherwise. Allah has His own time schedule for when to teach someone a lesson. We all make mistakes, but people who have a conscience are able to realize where they went wrong.
I believe it. Like MinX said, our experiences - good or bad - are the results of previous actions (or inaction). One way or the other, we all get what's coming to us, in this life or the next.
My faith in this concept was actually reaffirmed some months back when a local politician/official who'd given a relation of mine (and others in the town) a hard time was forced to resign because of a highly publicized corruption scandal. What goes around, definitely comes around...in this case, "it" came back with some really sharp teeth. ;)

**my faith tells me that a man has to pay for his bad deeds and gets rewarded for good deeds...mostly in the hereafter but sometimes in this world also for others to learn a lesson.
i've seen in atleast half a dozen cases where some1 did bad things in his young age and the similar bad things happened to him in his old age. one of my uncles was mean to his daughter while very kind to the son...later he saw with his own eyes the the daughters children were all achievers [drs N engrs] while his son's children did nothing in life and are looking for handouts. he was pained too much too witness all that in his old age **

Yes it does. Your actions dictate your future. Consider it Karma, Allah's will or whatever you wish but it is true.
However the notion that bad things happen to good people and vice versa is looking at the issue in the wrong way. Whatever we get from Allah in view of situations or problems are things we can handle. We only have to show faith and believe in our selves to accept that. If you want to be more patient Allah just doesn't give you the ability over night. You are placed in situations by Allah so you can learn and display patience.

Surely does, in its own time, but it does.
It does come back.. u hurt someone and Allah swt will bring upon some form of misfortune/calamity to u or u're family. Good and bad is written in our 'naseeb' but rest assured u inflict pain upon anyone (physical, emotional, verbal) it does come back.
It does..
However if one learns from that mistake or Allah se maafi maangay then I suppose not.

One should always wish well upon others and speak kind words/conduct themselves in a pleasant manner, who knows what action or word may please Allah. Who knows what actions and word could be the one which comes back against you at a later date.

That's called GOD'S JUSTICE !
People have free will and are responsible for what they do and say and what happens to them is a direct result of those actions. Yes , sometimes people suffer because of someone else's actions because they were not in a postion to decide for themselves however it bothers me when something bad happens people blame God for it and say "ye tho Allah ki marzi thi or kismat kharab thi etc" but when something good happens they take complete credit for it themselves.
God has given us free will and thats what sets us apart from other species and what happens is a result of that Free Will !***

I believe in it. Its the Nature's way of doing justice. But not in all cases ppl get punished or rewarded within this world, sometimes the actual punishment or reward is awaiting him/her in next world. Pray you do not get punished in next world, coz thats the worst punishment. And wish that you get rewarded in next world, coz thats the best reward.
