what do you guys think of banning youtube and facebook in pakistan?

Re: what do you guys think of banning youtube and facebook in pakistan?

there is nothing to suggest that facebook itself has a policy to promote that group. if it was technically in violation then it would be taken down. there is different between what we percieve as an attack or hate and what can be proved to be an attack or hate. i havent visited that group's profile (they're not worth my click money) but I presume they've walked a fine line and avoided the policy, and emphasised this is only a free speech issue.

In my uni I have posters on this 'draw Muhammad day' campaign, and the picture on that poster is what you might find in tombs and such.

Re: what do you guys think of banning youtube and facebook in pakistan?

banning is not the good option, instead Pakistan govt should have invest in something similar to FB and YT, and wikipedia, Twitters, but much more stronger. A strong competition would had created load more impact then shutting any sites.

and yes pakistani programmers and web designers are capable of doing this job.

it's not about programmers or web designers, India/China/Russia has one of the best brains - why is that their companies never reach the levels of Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Facebook, Google.. etc..etc..

Neither Pakistan treasury have enough money to compete even the Facebook, these multinationals boast vast resources which are far more then third-world countries like Pakistan !

The banning will not work, i was browsing through Facebook Press/Media section - they don't even bother to post a freaking 3 lines words on ban by Pakistan, that's how much they care.

i have no doubt about Chinese and Russian brains, but their sole problem is language.
whereas for indian brains....i have my own doubts.

kher, fb, yt and all these didnt born multinational, or didnt become multinational in a day. everything takes time.

at least start it.

and that is why there is no point to do the protest when you have very little support available of western media...in fact its none.

instead, our PM or president mush have asked the nation not to use it. Pakistani people have shown supportive response in the past (such as during 65 war as there was no theft report was registered, or they were minimal, and during earth quake). but banning these websites will only stop your people from getting any information-knowledge. so provide pakistani an alternative at least, otherwise restructure your strategy.

ps. everyday we go against the teachings of Prophet Muhammad PBUH, and then we don't find our actions blasphemous (e.g. marrying your daughters to Quran), and when some non-muslim shows some cartoon whom we should not expect any good anyways, and we get defensive.

Re: what do you guys think of banning youtube and facebook in pakistan?

Is fb and yt blocked in any other Muslim country as well? Are we the only ones leading this crusade? Anyone knows?

Lets discuss :hehe:

Re: what do you guys think of banning youtube and facebook in pakistan?

If you visit the areas where these people live, you meet with hostility and mistrust. WHY? Because they are inthe country illegally and want to avoid deportation at all costs. Because even though their existence here in the west may be crappy, its far better than what they'd have in their home countries. And its admirable that they want the best for their families for sure. But they dont pay taxes and the regular tax-paying folk are paying their way.

Follow and respect the laws of the country that you decide to live in.

Re: what do you guys think of banning youtube and facebook in pakistan?

i think we have freedom of speech here and that's what i respect most. every law is debated and some support it some dont. obamacare comes to mind?

whos breaking laws n not respecting them? ' ethnocentrism is no good.

and FYI, im for this law as it allows some way to tackle the problem but y not go after those who offer these ppl jobs.

anyways this thread isnt about that...and i dont want a sep thread, remove the rplies, dont create anothr thread plz! thanks : )

"Follow and respect the laws of the country that you decide to live in."

I don't quite see where you deduced that I/we were not respecting the country we "decided to live in" Having a difference of opnion entails not respecting the country I live in? and i dont just live here, but consider myself an "American", way to sound condescending and preachy.

btw there are so many people who are against the law (on a grand scale) I sure am sure they love this country. They feel that it's not right to target so many people and an alternative method would be better. It's feasible for them to pass this law and so they have done, doing otherwise would have required more resrources.

Mom if you want to discuss we can open a new thread on it.
There is no need to be so emotional about this issue Mof3 as there are American people who have different opinions. Its not just about us Muslims that we don’t respect the law. And FYI I am not against this law also we were just discussing.

If Mof 3 wants I’ll move your replies otherwise I 'll delete them lifey.:hugz:

because they are kicking Pakistani's asses in every field so you start to discriminate now?

When you are going to force ridiculous laws for ex. blashmey/Hadood Bill .. then i don't think so anyone will join except some pyscho muslims from Jammat Islami/Taliban.

The multinationals are successful only when they have open & freedom to operate, Facebook don't have any office or setup in Pakistan, they don't take it as a market enough to invest.

Pakistani government has other things to think about i.e. corruption and new ways to do it :D

Re: what do you guys think of banning youtube and facebook in pakistan?

Youtube ban is lifted, good call PTA now move your ass and open Facebook too.

People this fight have to be finish on intellectual levels !

Only in Pakistan Zindabad :jhanda:

Re: what do you guys think of banning youtube and facebook in pakistan?

I heard wiki is also banned

Re: what do you guys think of banning youtube and facebook in pakistan?

^ Some pages..

I think it's unnecessary

Re: what do you guys think of banning youtube and facebook in pakistan?

Let's solve the ethnic violence first which has already killed 30 people and countless kidnappings in the last 2 days in Karachi. Then we can worry about facebook.

Facebook is blocked inPakistan, Syria, China, Vietnam, and Iran

about youtube you can read here:

oh and not to forget UAE also blocked Facebook and youtube many times. =]

Re: what do you guys think of banning youtube and facebook in pakistan?

^ Its not blocked in Saudi and UAE after this event .

Just a note I was in Pakistan in 2008-09 and I am very much interested in telecommunication things. I just asked one of my buddy there who is working with PTCL (Etisalat owned). Even now ( as of year 2008) "many" companies "prefer" to have Pakistan brain for their work than indians. Even at that time they wanted to have 40 Pakistani hiring and 15 for Indians, BUT due to the suicide attacks and political problems they could not setup their hiring camp in Pakistan so they hired only 10 from Pakistan and 20 from India and rest from other soutch asian countries.
