What are you reading?

Re: What are you reading?

Just finished "Battle cry for freedom" by McPhearson. Was also reading "Uncle Toms Cabin" in my spare time.

Your description of Alhambra makes me think you may like Salman Rushdie's The Enchantress of Florence too. Partly historical, partly fictious, partly fantasy. Covers places, from Fergana to Delhi to Florence to Iran to Turkey to the New World. Includes the Mughal dynasty to Queen Elizabeth to the Ottoman empire to Nadir Shah to Florentine aristocrates. Hints on the possible making up of Jodha Bai's personality, Tansen, Akbar, royal scandal, moving the capital from Fatehpur Sikri etc are all in it. All of them are carefully crafted in a thrilling story. You might try that out.

You would enjoy The Story of Islamic Spain by Syed Azizur Rahman. The first half of the book is all history and the second half explores the culture: art, literature, architecture, food etc

Re: What are you reading?

**finished reading lost symbol by dan brown!

the book was awesome up until the last 2-3 chapters when dan brown suffered from writer's block! it just took the most weirdest turn! the ending completely ruined the whole book!**

I've only read one Dan Brown book, 'DaVinci Code' some years ago, because everyone hailed it as the best book ever, etc. I had to see for myself.

I was very impressed, the historical information was very interesting, some theories were perhaps possible. Once I started reading it, it was difficult to stop until I had read it all. The pace was fine for me, the way the novel was constructed was oké, I really enjoyed the book.

Until I came near the end. I felt the last part could have been left out, the book would have been better then in my opinion. The adventure was over, the real story was told. It had been a breath taking experience. But the last part was a little too much.

Still I think it's a great read, worth anyones time, but for me it wasn't as fantastic as everyone else kept saying.

And now you say that 'Lost symbol' has the same problem. Perhaps that's a Dan Brown Syndrome thing? Most writers have some sort of weakness. Perhaps this is his?
