What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

SO when did i say that my city is the best i only refer when u are use to live at one place u cannot leave it easily, like mr faudia u cannot leave chicago easily if u have to:)
And i myself like SF best or san jose is a nice place.
I know AZ sucks sometime especially in summer but since i am use to live in this city i don’t wanna move:snooty: I bet even if u like NYC u cannot leave Chicago :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

chorr ki darrhi mei tinka.
I am just giving ppl grief.
ppl have likes and dislikes about the place that they live in, but th likes are more than dislikes so they stay.
I mean I once lived in delaware..the armpit of philly…and it was for work.

as far as moving to a place u like, it depends how much you like it more than where you are, if there is a big difference then u make it happen, I like NYC more than chicago, but not enough that I leave chicago.

I disliked delaware..smellaware, so i moved, and stayed in mistake on the lake for a year, but knew I was going to leave so quit the job and moved to chicago which was one of my target cities.

I love philadelphia, its an above avg city but after London thats one city that evokes very strong felings, I have lived in chicago more than I lived in philly, and I like chicago more on total aspects, but philly will always be philly for me.

So I can completely understand why someone can love a city which may not be considered best city by others, what matters is that to the person it is the best city, or atleast , best city for now

dont take my messing about seriously.

PS: But scottsdale, sheesh atleast think pheonix, tempe or tucson…:stuck_out_tongue:

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

Fraudia,
you missed NJ! :) We have a hugee desi community!! And like you said both good/bad, depends on who you meet...as with any culture. Anyways I am in Tri-State area in NJ and lemme tell you Edison has a huge desi bazaar...probably doesn't compare to Devon St though...khair we have yummy chat patti food spots...tonsss of halal establishments from fast food to high end restaurants of all sorts.

Pros:
Great Train/Subway system (I speak in terms of access to NYC and even the NJ Transit takes thru a good portion of NJ. Hardly any place you can NOT get to via bus/train. Esp good in terms of work.

NYC is easily accessible. Same good things as any big city - the nightlife, museums, activities galore, restaurants, plus NYC skyline/waterfront

Close to plenty of beaches within an hours drive, atlantic city/point pleasant can be fun in the summer. (Although CA beaches are muchhh nicer...but khair)

Great schools, from grammar schools to high schools to universities. (NYU, Princeton, Penn State...but Rutgers, NJIT & UMDNJ are pretty good as well.)

Like said before amazing diversity all across the board, you meet people from all walks of life. If I just count my close friends and a few acquaintances....I can count like at least 9-10 different nationalities.

Dislikes are the congestion, traffic galore. A 7 mile drive into NYC can sometimes take 1 hour or more depending on tunnel traffic!!!!!

Personal dislike is I have my WHOLEEEEEEEEEEEEE family...rather Khandaan living in close proximity...and that can get annoying...esp when you have nosy/gossipy cousins, albeit they aren't 1st cousins.

Weather - We get all 4 seasons, which is probably a plus...BUTTT in my ideal world, it would ALWAYS be around 60-75 degrees...no more no less.
:)

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

Lived in Islamabad 1990-1992!

I liked

  1. Lovely and lush green acres!
  2. Walking through Margalla Hills and Shakarpurain
  3. My freinds from NWFP

I disliked:

  1. Earth shaking quite often
  2. Pani milla doodh

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

^

Islamabad is good if you stay there for a couple of weeks only - it gets boring

waisay pani mila doodh is not only Islamabad's speciality - its PK's

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

Karachi - till 1995

*Liked: *

The whole city
The school period
Ramadhaan
Evenings
University area (Karachi Uni & N.E.D. Plus the Urdu science college area :D)

Disliked:

MQM
Altaf Hussain
APMSO
PSF
JTI
mentality of PaRhaY likhaY jaahiL loug (well that's true for the whole pak anyway)

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

But it was too much in Islamabad then as I compared it with the one in Karachi.

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

Now the likes:
1: windy city, no matter how hot and humid it gets, there is always the cool breeze in the evenings that refreshes us.
2: multiculturalism
3: everything is available: from least expensive to the most expensive, unlimited list to choose from.

umm, more later.

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

Afrosheen I can never forget edison, I spent 5 years in philly and used to hit edison every few weeks. and you are right NJ has a pretty big desi population as well.

Correct me if I am wrong, I thought that majority of the desi population was either in areas like hoboken, parsipanny etc, close to NYC, or towards cherry hill etc close to Philly. is that corect or am I missing some other big desi areas in NJ.

Did not see much of that in newark, but that portugese/brazilian part of the town there was fun.

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

In NJ desi's are everywhere, but mostly near NY and Philly. Atlantic City desi population is also growing by leaps and bounds, considering all the motels down there owned by the Patel's of the area.

I think Edison desi bazaar is bigger than Devon Street, but then I haven't been to Chicago in this millenium

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

For a non-NJ resident, the free ways are very confusing. The freeway names are changed every few miles. If GPS isn't working, you're lost.
I'm not trying to compare it with Cali but here we've north to south and east to west freeways crossing each other - it makes it really easy.

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

dude, its not even close. Devon was bigger even in the last millenium and continues to grow. I saw edison and devon a few months apart in 1998, so at that time there was just no comparison, now if the rate of growth of edison has been higher than that of devon then I cant say because i have not been to edison since 98

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

Even with GPS you get lost over there.

Pir Sahib, aap ko aap ka devon mubarak ho :)

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

Thank you, this is such a surprise, first of al I would like to thank god, and then quaid e azam. and then the pakistani community in chicago...

etc etc

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

Don't forget all those helpful desi-store owners on Devon :p

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

yeah they are covered in etc etc and community, community covers all desis ya know

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

things I Hate about my place is: too much Taxes and Insurance payments and damn snow
everything else is just fine

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

"Communities" may have covered them but you qualified that term by putting "Pakistani" in front of it, and considering some of those desi stores may not be Pakistani owned ...

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?

yeah I am not tahnking non pakistani establishments :)

Re: What 3 things do you like best about your city? What are your top 3 dislikes?
