cherry on top? get it? :(
No I don't get it. In fact I think I'd rather not get what you are trying to say.

Re: Weird
Post a thread with a negative news involving America and desi Americans would automatically assume that you hate America and youre jealous of their accent etc...or you were denied the US visa. I dont get this attitude. Pardon for not putting the apostrophes and commas.
Sure...why not?
If the posters are usually against most things American...post threads like this and always focused on America and less on whatever is happening around themselves...then the obvious conclusion to be drawn is what I wrote about earlier.
You don't see threads posting here about how people in Dubai are or Pakistan are or any other country for that matter. So why this strange curiosity about Americans that the "holier" people wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole? There are far worse breeds out there, I am sure. No one seems to make them the topic of discussion? Why are we trying to crack the American Desis' minds open?
Its so interesting...I find it fascinating that we are so fascinating.
Let's make a thread highlighting and stating openly all the stereotypes attached to different types of people and then create threads on each one trying to figure out why they're just so weird. That sounds like fun.
Re: Weird
No one is celebrating anyone here. We just state facts. I've mentioned before I acknowledge the crimes this country has committed but every country in this world has blood on its hands. You just refuse to appreciate the contributions of this country to the entire world. It's the hub of innovation and no other nation is going to surpass that for a long time.
Surely you aren't an ambassador where the president appoints you to a country and there is no backing out. In fact even as an ambassador you can politely decline the invitation. You might lose your job but hey you are a person with extremely high morals so you should be ready to give that up for truth and justice!
You requested to be posted in the US for your own reasons. I know how the UN works. My grandfather was part of it so please stop portraying as if you had no choice but to come to this horrible country. You voluntarily chose to come here but if you would like to tell yourself otherwise because it helps you sleep better at night, then be my guest.
Yeah morals are so relevant when you are Afghani, Pakistani, British, or Saudi? Please! Stop painting the entire nation as a hub of evil. It's getting old.
LOL! So dishonest. If I recall correctly you stated that I came to this country by choice. When I said I did not. You assumed I was American. When I was not. Then you said I paid US taxes when you should know if your grandfather worked for the UN that UN staff do not pay taxes.
Its amazing how you attribute certain notions when they don't match reality at all. They just fit into your little world.
Like I said ABCDs and identity problems.

Actually you guys ***** more about Arabs and are plain racist. You forget all those posts?

Who's racist and what posts?
If you're bringing up age old convo's then link them...random references are fine but you can't expect us to just magically recall everything you do.
Re: Weird
Not you specifically Reha, but you have to realize that most posters born in the West constantly ***** about Arabs and the Middle east and their policies consistently on this forum.
Its not a one way street. Pakistani complain about ABCDs. ABCDs complain about Arabs and Pakistan as well on this forum. The only difference is that the ABCDs are unwilling to accept faults with caveats or drawing parallels.
Moral courage is accepting a wrong is a wrong without bringing in the good to balance it out.

Umm no. You did come to this country by choice. No one put a gun to your head and made you come here. Many ppl in the UN can choose where to be posted and if an opening comes up they get appointed there. You chose the US and were thus appointed here. You claim to be a person of high values so why would you accept this position even if you didn't choose the location? Why not decline and request another posting elsewhere? Maybe back in Sudan to build more schools and serve humanity?
I NEVER assumed you were American. I can clearly tell you aren't an American. I just questioned why you lived here when you posses immense hatred for this country.
I asked you about taxes prior to you telling me about your diplomatic gig. At that time I was unaware that you were here on a diplomatic post. So again I'm not wrong.
And stop calling me an ABCD. I was born in Pakistan and raised in Canada. Does labeling everyone an insecure ABCD fit into your little world?

Again I am telling you I didn't. So who knows more my personal life me or you? :) But again if that makes you feel better by all means go for it. Reality is reality at the end of the day regardless of what you wish.
You may wish to look at the previous discussions on this where you specifically stated why do I pay taxes in the US etc. You made a large number of assumptions based on my posts, which is fine. Being judgmental seems to be your forte.
Lastly I think I may know your Grandfather.
Re: Weird
No, its not a one way street.
I just think its been too long…ABCD’s is such an old term. People are not confused here about their identities. The ones who believe so want us to fit neatly into THEIR description or opinion of what we should be like. And that’s not going to happen, ever…its not required to happen. That’s the American part of American Desi.
The Confused part of ABCD is relative…people who believe that we have identity issues are pretending as if they have a better understanding of what American Desis should be like. They don’t. There’s no definition of American Desi that we’re failing. Pakistanis here are not supposed to be anything like Pakistanis in Pakistan. Its not confusion…its an active choice to be whatever it is we want. Because we can.

Agreed with everything you have said. So you guys aren't American Desis. You are just good old fashioned Americans.
I use the term ABCD as it is best used to describe the predicament immigrant families are in, because at the end of the day the Parents are Pakistani. The kids are not. They have different norms and values. But they are forced in many ways to adhere to the values of the motherland, which are foriegn and many times make no sense.
Re: Weird
Alright Reha and cherry :k: thanks for proving my point.
Re: Weird
wow how did i miss this thread.. Judgements passed here are definitely overwhelming and sarcasm is overflowing..
Way to call Black americans, White americans.. ABCDs.. yadi yada yaaada..
And yea, wut a “toofan-e-badtameezi” burping by these so-called "ABCD"s… its defintely a huge turbulence as reported by meteorologists, the centre of which is ofcourse this thread caused by damn ABCDs.. gladly people did take all precaution as a headsup was already given by a Dr. singer.
Again, who is more judgemental? Oh desi Americans, right!!! ![]()
Re: Weird
Oh no its not about you…I just used your thread to vent a bit. That’s all.
Carry on with this fascination…its flattering.
Re: Weird
uffff… Today i came across this phrase “Shah sy Zayda Shah kay Vafadar” lulz](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=lulz)
South Asians over all are judgemental, I think that’s something everyone can agree on.
But regarding getting defensive… speaking from personal experience, I only get defensive about anything I care about. I’m Pakistani, so if someone bad mouths Pakistan, I get defensive. I’ll argue until I’m blue in the face that Pakistan isn’t nearly as bad as the media portrays it to be.
Now, although I am Pakistani by blood, Amreeka is my home. So if someone, looking at my home from the outside or in, says something negative about it, why can’t I get defensive?
For the sake of comparison, would a mother not get defensive if someone constantly picked on her kid? Would a talented person not get defensive if someone constantly accused them of being a phony? ahem
I guess all I’m trying to say is, don’t hate me because I’m not black ![]()
Re: Weird
Pakistanis are defensive.
Misbah
Re: Weird
^ I actually went and checked out your thread in World Affairs. No one was being defensive. They were just presenting the facts. The poor Iraqi guy did get caught amidst a shootout between two gangs. It was extremely tragic but based on the facts it was not a hate crime. The North Carolina incident based on facts was a pure hate crime. We Muslims need to present our grievances based on facts or we would just be taken as a group of people crying wolf. We definitely don't want to take the focus away from actual issues facing the Muslim community in the US.
Just because we like to state facts doesn't mean we are insecure. I know all you ppl love to think we live here with our tails between our legs but that is far from true. I personally enjoy more freedom and privileges here than I would in any other 'Muslim majority' country. I'm sorry if we all don't chant 'death to America' after every negative news you post.
true that.
Don’t make me chase you around with a rolling pin, Southie Uncle! ![]()
Re: Weird
I wouldn't defend Pakistan or Britain or Qatar if they're in a wrong. Also, I don't care if I don't get compliments for being Pakistani or British or for living in middle-East. Patriotism is good thing but our religion has also warned us against blind patriotism. Coloured people defending every right and wrong of a country like America is what Malcolm X called House Slave Mentality. Be proud of your country and identity but don't think you're better than others and you or your country can't do any wrong.
The above statement is also going to be misunderstood.
