Why do desi Americans on this forum get mad at you when you post a negative news about US? The White and Black Americans I know handle the criticism with fairness and maturity. I think that’s the huge difference between desi Americans and real Americans.

I’m not talking in a literal sense. I was pointing out the difference between desi and other Americans. Desi Americans act very defensive when it comes to America…they have a very defensive stance whereas others don’t.

^Anyway, I don't want to argue with you(I'm still scared of that blog entry titled as "Hareeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeem"). I just wanted to let the people know that they need to calm down a bit....coming in every single thread and defending your country isn't cool. People bash Pakistan right, left and center but hardly any Pakistani living in Pakistan bothers. I recently opened a thread in WA presenting a negative news about US and as a result desi Americans started accusing me of painting their country in negative light etc. Seriously, wake up! (Not you Khawarij). I don't have a secret agenda to diss everything American.

I think because people eventually get tired of the "Oh look those weird Americans...they'll never be real Americans but they think they are" and similar mentalities. They get tired of the criticism and develop a defensive attitude...we're not usually being complimented on anything aside from our accents. Most non-Americans will have their own judgments about us and we know that. When someone starts a commentary...a "desi American" will usually go into defense mode because let's face it...a convo is so not a convo if it doesn't involve a jab at us and/or questioning our identity.
Our identity seems to be a big question mark even for people who have no idea what they're own is. If someone leaves Pakistan and goes to Dubai, people will not question their identity. But if someone leaves Pakistan and goes to America or is born in America...their identity is up for debate.
Whether its jealousy or the truth is yet to be determined. But whatever...its what I've noticed at least. Usually Americans are responding to the age old debate about who they are against people they can easily "none of your business" to.

Post a thread with a negative news involving America and desi Americans would automatically assume that you hate America and youre jealous of their accent etc...or you were denied the US visa. I dont get this attitude. Pardon for not putting the apostrophes and commas.

Actually what people do is question why you live in the country if you hate it so much :) Nope that has never happened to me :p (only on 4 occasions by 4 different ABCD guppies) :D

^ I actually went and checked out your thread in World Affairs. No one was being defensive. They were just presenting the facts. The poor Iraqi guy did get caught amidst a shootout between two gangs. It was extremely tragic but based on the facts it was not a hate crime. The North Carolina incident based on facts was a pure hate crime. We Muslims need to present our grievances based on facts or we would just be taken as a group of people crying wolf. We definitely don't want to take the focus away from actual issues facing the Muslim community in the US.
Just because we like to state facts doesn't mean we are insecure. I know all you ppl love to think we live here with our tails between our legs but that is far from true. I personally enjoy more freedom and privileges here than I would in any other 'Muslim majority' country. I'm sorry if we all don't chant 'death to America' after every negative news you post.

So what identity issue do you suffer from? Extremely confused Pakistani who nonetheless likes to live in the US? You don't criticize the US. You actually possess immense hatred for this country yet live here. You should definitely try living somewhere else. :)

Its good to see you back again. :) I have an issue when countries and leaders commit war crimes and their people celebrate them as heroes. But hey that is just me :)
Edit: To address the issue of living here. With diplomatic gigs I can not choose where I go sometimes. Sometimes I just have to live in a country that has invaded more countries than Soviet Russia, dethroned many democratically elected governments and killed countless civilians in the pursuit of economic wealth.
But hey, morals are irrelevant when you are American :)

No one is celebrating anyone here. We just state facts. I've mentioned before I acknowledge the crimes this country has committed but every country in this world has blood on its hands. You just refuse to appreciate the contributions of this country to the entire world. It's the hub of innovation and no other nation is going to surpass that for a long time.
Surely you aren't an ambassador where the president appoints you to a country and there is no backing out. In fact even as an ambassador you can politely decline the invitation. You might lose your job but hey you are a person with extremely high morals so you should be ready to give that up for truth and justice!
You requested to be posted in the US for your own reasons. I know how the UN works. My grandfather was part of it so please stop portraying as if you had no choice but to come to this horrible country. You voluntarily chose to come here but if you would like to tell yourself otherwise because it helps you sleep better at night, then be my guest.
Yeah morals are so relevant when you are Afghani, Pakistani, British, or Saudi? Please! Stop painting the entire nation as a hub of evil. It's getting old.
