I read before you said that you had a plated set made, are the stones in it real though? Or they are are glass??

Adra, you may be mistaken. I dont have a plated set. I just chose the golden metal part from various designs the khoka wala had and had him put in the maroon beads. They can put in any colored beads in any combination you want.

so wait, is it gold-looking, i.e. sterling silver washed in gold, or is it actually gold? either way, its pretty! are the beads rubies?

sgc, i wish they were rubies :D I dont know what the metal is but i am certain its not gold plated. Its probably the same material costume jewerllery is made from. Thats why it was so cheap. I think gold plated sets are atleast twice the price. And yes, shay, i just customized the beads. I dont know whaty they are made of, i suspect they are plastic but on the wedding day, no one was the wiser ;) I didnt want to spend money on a huge gold set that i wont wear again, so instead i bought 2 light gold sets taht i am even comfortable wearing at home.
The jarao sets look so pretty though. I would LOVE to get one each in rubies, sapphires and emeralds. Sigh!

Ira, you know I just love your honestly and humbleness.
Most chicks would come and brag bout their ordinary sets and claim them to be gold but you are being so honest bout yours.
It still looks awesome esp the red stones, and I love the way how it matches with the rest of your gold jewellery, cause most brides wear various shades of gold.
Are you from karachi, I know of a shop that sell rubies, sapphires waghera set in silver at very decent prices.
I bought a pair of earings with three aquamarines in each and bargained it down to 5000 Rs.
I got them appraised from here and they are worth more than $5000.

I forgot, its a weird name. I have their boxes and bags at home.
I bought heaps from that store, like my Allah pendant with a chain was 1000 Rs and the pendant its set with CZs, like the whole Allah is written in CZs.
I love that shop, their jewellery was so nicely made and the guy kept on insisting that most of his jewellery designs could beat Tiffanys 
I’d say Tiffanys is no match for his stuff.

I suppose they keep a margin for bargaining.
I’d bought heaps, like the girls had bought earings and id bought the pendant and I was walking out of the shop when I spotted the earings and Im a huge fan of Stones. I dont really like jewellery just stones.
I spotted the aquas and fell in love with me. Aquamarine is a very expensive stone in the west as its only found in Pakistan/Afghanistan and certain places in South America.
He said the prices was 7000 and I told him It was out of my budget so we kept on bargaining. In the end I said i only have 5000 and started walking out and he’s like just for you i’ll give it to yoou for 5000.
That aside as for Rubies, emerald and even peridot and aquas, you’ll find the stones cheaper in pakistan than in the west because they are mainly from Pakistan.

I get mum to do it for me, she is an expert :D
But i loved shopping in Karachi, hated the upscale malls like The Forum and stuff mainly cause they were kinda like malls here but I loved Zubaida market and shops like those, you can bargain your life away.

Sure thing, just wait till i go home and look at the boxes. Its a very cute shop.
I had no idea they were worth that much till a friend pointed it out and I was like no way.
So i started looking on ebay for Aquas and the stone the size of the middle one was going for $500 and i was like Woaaaah.
So I got 'em appraised and insured.

Adra, those earrings are plain gorgeous!!!! I am not from karachi but visit there almost everytime i am in pakistan. Would love to check that shop out. If anyone knows of a good reputed shop in khi or any other big city taht sells authentic, real, untreated gem stones set in gold preferably, please let me know. I saw a great deal of loose stones being sold in Sawat last year but since i dont have knowlege to judge their realness, i didnt buy any. Maybe next time, when i am more educated. Btw, just as a side note, i saw some great designs at Dmas in Dubai. Very lovely jewellery there.

i remember when we were young, we went to sawat and my mom bought some raw, unpolished amethyst's from there. she still has them in her bank locker... i have to ask her if we can finally get something made from those. but seeing them on basically a thela was amazing! they had so much variety.
