Re: WC2007 Final: SL v AUS
In 1999, we beat Pakistan
In 2003, we beat India
It's high time to take revenge of '96 loss. Sri Lanka, you wanted us. Careful what you wish for.
Payback time!

Aussies can crumble under sustained pressure: Murali
This is the moment we have been waiting for. The World Cup final against Aus tralia in Bridgetown will be a special moment, never mind the outcome. You can be sure that we’ll try our best to win this one and make it even more memorable.
We respect the Australians for the way they play their cricket. They are skillful, hard and competitive. And we are aware that Matthew Hayden Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting have been in great nick with the bat while Glenn McGrath, Nathan Bracken Shaun Tait and Brad Hogg have been terrific with the ball We realise that it will need a commanding team perform ance to beat the Australians in their current form.
Make no mistake, we are not the kind who will be over awed by the Australians. We believe we have the skill sets and the mental strength need ed to beat a team that has not tasted defeat in the tournament so far. We also believe that we have a balanced squad which can not only answer the questions posed by Australia but ask a few of our own.
We are aware that there will some nervousness in the Australian ranks, particularly since the team seems eager to complete a hat-trick of titles. We know that we can make such eagerness work in our favour since Australia have a tradition of crumbling under sustained pressure. I have been a witness to that quite a few times, not the least when Arjuna Ranatunga led us to victory over them in the 1996 World Cup final.
I was part of that squad but I was very young and didn’ know much about it since players like Ranatunga and Ar avinda de Silva were in charge of the campaign. Now I know what it takes to win a World Cup. This may be my last World Cup and if we can win it will be the greatest moment in my life.
We want to focus on what we can control and like the best performers usually do concentrate on getting the basics right. We do not want to dwell too much on what has happened in the run-up to this big game. Instead, we want to go out there and deliver performances that are in keeping with our potential. That is the key: We must do what we can and we must do it really well.
We have batsmen of the cal ibre of Sanath Jayasuriya skipper Mahela Jayawardene Kumar Sangakkara, Upul Tha ranga and Chamara Silva. I am confident that they will play like we did in England last year, when we won the One day series 5-0. If our batsmen get going, we can be more dan gerous than any other team.
Mahela played a fabulous knock the other day against New Zealand, giving us bowlers a wonderful chance to get at their batsmen. Chaminda Vaas and Lasith Malinga have authored great spells with the new ball and Sanath has been wonderful as well with his left-arm spin, while I have done my bit for the team. It is now a question of getting it right one more time so that we can head home with the trophy.

Re: WC2007 Final: SL v AUS
Aussies have been riding on incredible Hayden, Ponting, Clarke, McGrath and Tait. Rest havent had the chance to show their form or skills. If Lankans can put a lid on three of these five, they will be worldcup winners. Lets hope so.
Re: WC2007 Final: SL v AUS
Australia is going to win.
Even if by a miracle that Sri Lanka wins, Australia will still be world champions in my books as they have dominated every single team
Re: WC2007 Final: SL v AUS
^A World Cup is a World Cup. Even if they're not champions in your book, they will be delighted with winning cricket's most prestigious prize.
Re: WC2007 Final: SL v AUS
8.35am Andrew Miller send this gloomy report. "A touch overcast this morning. A stiff breeze coming across the ground, and some ominous black clouds out behind the media centre. In fact, it's just started to rain. Only a passing shower, but I think we can expect more of the same as the day goes on."
Re: WC2007 Final: SL v AUS
It takes nothing away from Australia. They rested because they wanted all these players to play entire tournament. Makes perfect sense, Tom Moody is S/L coach, he is bound to be biased.
Re: WC2007 Final: SL v AUS
this sucks
now whoever wins toss will choose to bowl and have an advantage
Re: WC2007 Final: SL v AUS
if delayed start, overs docked off, might get a 20/20 lol
we were all looking for a good finish to this pathetic world cup, now it just might get the ending it deserves
Re: WC2007 Final: SL v AUS
A reduced-overs match will suck...and will not portray the true strength or performance of a team...damn...damn...
Re: WC2007 Final: SL v AUS
match start:D
Re: WC2007 Final: SL v AUS
This WC is cursed
Re: WC2007 Final: SL v AUS
This is not good for SL, tis is not good for SL.
As overs get docked, Australia's pinch hitting superiority comes to the fore.
Damn it! But a crap final will be a true ending to the poorest sporting tournament I have ever seen.
