Waxing at home - Best wax brand to buy?

I wanna wax at home. I’ve tried making my own wax and stuff. It works but too much mess. I want to buy a good brand wax or sugaring whatever that works for thick hair. I don’t think there are waxing stripes that do a good job on desi kind of hair? If yes then please let me know.
Sally hanson and surgi wax - any experiences with these twos?

sally hanson is HORRIBLE ... such a cheap product...

veet is the best i have tried... and it works great.. just do it after showering and exfoliating your skin to open up all the hair follicles.

What part of your body are you looking to wax? Different parts demand different types of wax.

I wouldn't use any depilatory. It can also cause hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin), in certain cases. Stick with waxing only.
Seriously.
As an esthetitican I wouldn't touch any cream or chemical hair removal.

Ok, for your legs, you seriously need to get it done by a professional. It's HELLA painful, and it takes a LONG time. It needs to be removed in a certain pattern and unless you're licensed, you're not likely to know.

If you still prefer to do it yourself, all I can suggest are drug store wax strips made for the general population. Sally Hansen is the best you're going to get that isn't likely to cause any real damage to your skin.
When I'm in a bind, I've used it myself. It's not that bad (and it's available in most stores)

i use the veet wax strips. they come in diff types, sensitive skin, good for short hair, etc etc... i tried sally hansen once and only once and it sucked so so so so so bad.. wouldnt stick and when it did.. it wouldnt come off. sometimes the entire wax would get pasted to my skin and the strip itself would come off absolutely clean.. so i stick to veet..

all you have to be careful about is the direction of the hair growth.. u ease it on, and pull it in the direction of the hair growth... ive always waxed myself and only got it done professionaly once... its not at all hard.. just time consuming. but i take it its not ure first time waxing so it should be good.

i have also used veet hair removal cream when i havent felt like abusing myself with a bikini wax... and it works fine.. no discoloring or irritation. my sis uses it for her legs cuz shes too much of a wuss to actually wax... and it works out fine for her.. just doesnt stay clean for as long as it does with waxing

I find home-made wax to be the best, u can smear it on with a spatula or use it as cold wax! 2 cups sugar, 1 cup water 1/2 lemon and u cook it till it's light gold in color and remove from heat and use!

Make sure the area to be waxed is clean and dry (apply talcum powder) spread the wax on about 2 square inches of u're skin and pull the strip/wax opposite to the hairgrowth/grain. Follow-up with a soothing aloe vera body lotion or baby oil.

Since i have invested in a wax warmer, my life has been SOOO much easier. I have the GiGi brand warmer and i use the same brand wax. Its easily avalible in the US, and i get mine at Sally Beauty Supply.

That's not wax, that's sugaring :P

We use that in the salon/spa only for eyebrows. We use soft wax for large areas (like legs), and hard for the rest.

I prefer hard to any type.

And I still don't think anyone who hasn't trained should be waxing themselves. I've seen skin ripped off even by professionals.
So I can't really enable..

Veet works the best.. especially the one thats microwavable and washable one.. works everywhere..

For bikini wax, yup, it's totally ok to go to a professional. We know how to minimize pain and perform it as quickly as possible.

Since I've gone through my esthetics program, and the considering the things I've seen, I would not let anyone touch me unless they were licensed.

(Even if someone thinks they're great at these things, in the past 10 years in the USA I've seen numerous deaths and even dismemberment's from seemingly non dangerous procedures--such as a pedicure(and not even from the filing, from the bowl itself), and I've seen HORRIBLE skin infections from waxing). Most people have no clue what goes into these procedures beyond actually performing them. There's a reason we have to have a license to do this stuff!

So I'm really not just tootin' my own horn here. I'm completely serious. If you're going to get waxed, please go to a professional at a reputable salon/spa. PLEASE.

I once went to a very reputable salon and she asked me if i was using any medications and i told her i was on accutane. While she was giving me a facial and right after she steamed my face, she waxed it too and ripped a chunk of skin off my face.

I was sooo mad at her. And she had the nerve to not say sorry but say oh it will be fine in a few days. I had an ugly scar for sometime thanks to her.

I used to try to make something out of sugar and lemons at home too, but it was too much mess, and sometimes it came out great, and sometimes it didnt… even if it does come out good , its just an extra step and is time consuming

Now a big relief for me, i have found really affordable alternatives that work for me… I use Alexandria brand for arms and legs, its not painful at all, and removes hair very effectively… never leaving any…

I use Nads, for underarms/bikini area, personally I find it strong enough to be used in those areas without any problems (but others may not)

both these brands can be found in drug stores in the US, such as CVS

removing hair by waxing or sugaring is not rocket science, if u are using the right products…if u can get something strong enough , then i think it is totally doable at home… the poster asked specifically for brands that can be used at home by herself.. l know that some girls would love to to find a good waxing/sugaring product and would prefer doing it themselves in the privacy of their own homes…others ofcourse wanna go to licensed salons or what not, and thats fine too its their choice…

You can use nads on legs/arms if u find alexandria to be not as strong, although i find it to be perfect for legs and arms … the jars i buy (alexandria is way cheaper than nads, and nads jar is also not bad for upto like 20 dollars) last me for months and months…

I have never found any sally hanson products to be any good…i actually did give the sally hanson home use wax a try once, and wouldnt recommend it over the two brands i have mentioned…

Would you mind telling me in private what that salon was and where it is located? If it wasn't too long ago, I would suggest contacting that state's board of cosmetology and filing a complaint.
They should have offered you a questionnaire to fill out which DOES list accutane and other skin thinners. If you have taken it in the past 6 months they aren't allowed to perform any waxing on you whatsoever.
