Wasim to become bowling coach for India?

Its really unfortunate to see Waseem's own countrymen having no faith in him and calling him all sorts of things when the news item was clearly a fabrication of someone's imagination. I can only imagine what our tolerant younger lot will do when and if he actually signs up with India. Truely very sad.

Wasim coaching Indian bowlers will actually be great, with the current abundance of left arm bowlers that India has right now. Why is it such a big deal, Hadlee has a good camp going in Chennai, he is only going to be a bowling coach not the team coach...

Well, PCB should start paying should start paying its cricketer little more so that its players stop looking for jobs across the border. ;)

Not everyone work/play for money unlike some Indian icons who plainly refused representing India in the worldcup over the money issue :)

and now on serious note. If indian bowling can improve by hiriing wasim as coach why not?I dont see anything wrong in that.

It also has an advantage, it will give us an excuse of losing any future game from India ;)

Perhaps due to the "rivalry" two teams have, and the two countries have.

Yeah right - Ask Salim Malik, Izaj Ahmad, Wasim Akram and every other cricketer whose name was mentioned in the Qayyum Report.

Rahi baat Indian Bowling ki - Arey jab Dennis Lilee kuch nahin kar paya to Akram kis khet ki mooli hai. I dont think it is going to change anything.

^
Asif: Dennis was a full time bowling coach? I thought he used to just pay some visits to some bowling academy or something( I might be wrong ).

CB - No Lillee wasn't a full time coach. But look at the products coming out of that MRF pace academy. That Idiot Avishkar Salvi is suppsoed to be the future fast bowler of India and his fastest ball was 125 kmph. Are the selectors blind to notice that ?? I dont see any hope for fast bowling in India.

We should stick to the good old days of Spin bowling.

are you starting a new debate of who was better/Intelligent bowler b/w Akram and Lilee? :)

Wasim Akram will never be a good bowling coach.
He was a great bowler because he was naturally talented, he barely had control over his bowling, how can you expect someone to be a good coach when he can't control his own wides and no balls.
If India can't produce a genuine fast bowler despite services from Hadlee and Lillee, Wasim can't change anything as well.

Abey I am not starting any discussion. To me Wasim Akram is the greatest bowler ever to land on this earth at least in my generation but that doesn't mean he is going to be a succesful coach.

Don't throw out the baby with the water, Asif. We have good pace talent it is just one Salvi who needs to dissappear and Zaheer to be told 'no more contracts till you get your line right'.

Waseem was censured for not cooperating with the comission and not match fixing. Last i heard he had filed a case to clear his name and that is still pending. So unless you know something that the rest of the world don’t, stop throwing mud around:

India want Akram as bowling coach
(Updated at 1320 PST)
NEW DELHI: India’s search for an expert to guide its young crop of fast bowlers on the upcoming tour of Australia appears to have ended at the doorstep of Pakistani legend Wasim Akram.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering a request from captain Sourav Ganguly and coach John Wright to hire Akram as the bowling coach of the national team, officials said on Wednesday.

We are talking to Akram to see if he will be available for the Australian tour as a consultant, BCCI official Jyoti Bajpai said. A final decision will be taken later this week when Akram meets Indian cricket chief Jagmohan Dalmiya in Calcutta, Bajpai said.

Akram has already been signed by Rupert Murdoch’s television company, ESPN-Star Sports, to commentate on India’s four-Test series in Australia starting next month.

india want wasim 4 der tour down under!!

  • India are targeting the coaching services of Pakistani pace legend Wasim Akram for their tour of Australia starting later this month.

The Indian board (BCCI) is considering a request from captain Sourav Ganguly and coach John Wright to hire Wasim.

“We are talking to Wasim to see if he will be available for the tour as a consultant,” a BCCI spokesman said.

A final decision will be taken later this week when Wasim meets BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya in Calcutta.

[thumb=D]_39586759_wasim203.JPG[/thumb] << the least jugs can do is greet wasim bhai properly, i mean was’ bhai is smiling whilst jug is far from smiling!!

**“Why Wasim? Simply because he is the greatest fast bowler of the modern era,” Ganguly said after India were beaten by Australia in the final of the one-day TVS Cup tournament. ** shabash gully’ :k:

The 37-year-old left-armer retired from cricket in May with 414 Test wickets and a world record tally of 502 wickets in limited-overs cricket.

Wasim will be in Australia to work as a commentator on the four-Test series.

“It helps that Wasim will anyway be in Australia for the series,” a BCCI official said.

“We should take advantage of his presence there.”

The Indian team, which departs for Australia on Friday, includes three left-arm seamers - Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra and rookie Irfan Pathan.

The Indian government last month ended a three-year boycott of bilateral cricket matches against Pakistan, paving the way for the arch-rivals to schedule a Test series in Pakistan in March next year.

India, who have not won a Test series outside the sub-continent since 1986, have secured just three victories in 28 Tests in Australia, the last coming in 1981.

On their last tour of Australia in 1999-2000, India were whitewashed 3-0 in the Test series with their pace bowlers ineffective on the fast-paced tracks. *

so dis wasn’t a bluff den its true india want wasim bhai, it must be kewl from an indian prospestive :hoonh:

india and pakistan have a not-so-friendly rivalry in cricket, it would be insane to help out the indian team unless you do so with the intent of sabotage. don't get me wrong, i'm all for good relations but this is a sport where there can only be one winner and with a tour in Feb around the corner, he should decline the offer unless he wants to come back to pakistan wearing a burqa. would ohio state like it if archie griffin went to michigan to help out their offense? would the red sox like it if pedro went to the yankees to give advice to their young pitchers? think about it.

LIC - Read the report once again. It says we never approached Akram. I read another report which said it was Akram who was sending ‘Feelers’. :hehe:

So it's true then. I have a feeling that the Indian board would never have approached Wasim unless Wasim himself had first indicated that he was willing to coach the Indian bowlers. Which of course means that Wasim will say 'yes', after a suitable time lapse of course. That will give him time to guage the reaction back home, bacause as TUMS pointed out he wouldn't like to come back in a bullet proof burqa.

The alternative is Wasim could start living in India as a full time consultant. When we can have singers and actors making their home there, why not a cricketer? ;)

exactly … the Headline says it all so nothing else than hot air in the end … on other hand Wasim will be there as a commentator so he’l automaticly judge the bowling to make his comments … so why pay someone if a part of the jo is done for free … neverthless if Lillee wasn’t able to produce anything reasonable for India yet or atleast someone who keeps some promise for future than what the heck will Wasim produce …

Express pace is about converting ur mental aggression into physical and to be precise in your action to be effective … It’s more a talent thing than one u can produce … look Pak had No Tendi in recent days … so will they head for Gavaskat in order to get Tendi from the youth … forget it … it’s non sense …

BTW what shall wasim tell the likes of Zaheer, Nehra etc. etc. … how to bowl outside the offstump with a good lenght ??? i guess they know it already but to do it when Adam Gilchrist or Matthew Hayden is standing in front of the wicket holding a 4 inch broad willow in hands … that’s something one need to explain to both … it’s more a mental problem than the ability issue … to know something is one thing to execute it perfectly the other !!! Wake up ppl and realise they’ve the Batsmen and we’ve the bowlers …

Zero_One, why do we have Javed Miandad working at batsmen to help them on their technical flaws? Do you think Wasim can only tell them where to pitch the ball? What about how to utilise wicket conditions, how to exploit shape and shine of the ball, how to exploit a technical flaw etc. Coaching is not just to tell how to throw it or where. I am sure "caches" are hired for some reason, not just to give money to someone.

Why would you "have a feeling"? I am sure its because you r INDIAN and Wasim is Pakistani, so BCCI will be egoistic and would not approach a rival nation's bowler to act as coach.
