Warm Up Match

I thought he got a couple of 40's in both matches. Anyway, it doesn't change the fact that I rate him. I'd back him ahead of Afridi any day.

What's Taufeeq's record like in ODI's?

:jhanda:

wonderful batting by taufeeq n imran nazir :biggthumb

who said taufeeq is not an ODI material :hoonh:

It doesnt make a good reading...
Batting 17 17 1 426 81* 26.62 56.87 0 3

S/R of 56.87 and Average of 26 are his biggest enemies...
Yes he played brilliantly today but i m afriad when he is gonna play a one day match, he is gonna score like a snail pace, like he use to.

Yes Afiridi is more unpredictable than him but then again Afridi has good bowlign skills.

I think Taufeeq should stay in reserve in case one of the regular openers fail. However, I would bring in Nazir for Afridi.

Pak-A 1 : India 0

Psycological murder of Indian bowling by Pak-A batsmen. India set Pak-A 336 to win, which our batsmen achieved with 25 balls to spare with only 4 wickets down. Let’s hope our seniors continue the on-slaught. :jhanda:

India admit being jolted after defeat in Pakistan tour opener](http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/040311/3/26fb.html)

LAHORE, Pakistan (AFP) - India crashed to an embarrassing six-wicket defeat at the start of the Pakistan tour after their bowlers were pounded in spectacular fashion.

Having posted 335-6 from 50 overs, the tourists were jolted when Pakistan A overtook the imposing total with 24 deliveries to spare in a limited-overs practice match at the Gaddafi stadium.

The home team’s captain, Taufiq Umer, hit 104 and Imran Nazir contributed a fiery 65 off 32 balls to dent India’s confidence ahead of Saturday’s first one-day international in the southern port city of Karachi.

The result never looked in doubt once Pakistan A had cruised to 183-1 by the 15th over.

The Indian bowlers were guilty of conceding 42 extras, including 17 no-balls and 12 wides.

Zaheer Khan, who went for 78 runs in nine overs, was the worst culprit with 12 no-balls and 10 wides. Laxmipathy Balaji was thrashed for 60 runs in six overs and young seamer Irfan Pathan gave away 49 in five.

Dejected Indian coach John Wright laid the blame squarely on his bowlers’ shoulders.

“I think its a jolt from the point of view of how tough this tour is going to be,” he said.

"We bowled badly and have a job in hand to sort this out quickly.

"We would not want to repeat this performance. One must have a plan B when your opponent attacks. Our bowlers bowled all over the place and will have to learn quickly.

"(A bowler) Going for 60 and 70 is an area of concern which we must address and the only way is to work hard in the nets.

“The Pakistan team must have watched this performance with interest. Worry is not the right adjective, but we must have better all-round performance in the one-dayers,” Wright said.

India will play five one-dayers and three Tests against Pakistan on their first full tour of the country since 1989.

For the tourists, Rahul Dravid stroked an unbeaten 92 to build on Sachin Tendulkar’s 76 and a typically aggressive 75 off 68 balls by Virender Sehwag.

Captain Sourav Ganguly managed only five before fending a rising ball from Umer Gul back to the bowler - a dismissal sure to please Pakistan’s speed king Shoaib Akhtar.

The Indian captain’s woes continued as openers Nazir and Taufiq launched a spectacular assault on his bowlers.

The pair smashed the new ball duo of Khan and Balaji for 50 by the fifth over and brought up the century stand off the first delivery of the eighth over.

When Pathan replaced Zaheer, he was hit for 24 runs in his first over. Left-arm spinner Murali Kartik was welcomed into the attack by being swatted for 23 runs in an over.

Nazir, dropped from Pakistan’s one-day squad last year, hit nine boundaries and a six before he was bowled by Zaheer.

Umer, a regular Test batsman but not considered good enough for the one-dayers, had 13 fours and two sixes in his 89-ball knock.

India clearly looked incapable of containing the batsmen in the absence of three strike bowlers, Anil Kumble, Ajit Agarkar and Harbhajan Singh.

Leg-spinner Kumble and seamer Agarkar, who were forced to miss the first part of the tour due to injuries, are expected to be available for the Test series starting on March 28.

Off-spinner Harbhajan is out of the entire tour following surgery on his bowling hand during the recent tour of Australia.

**Taufeeq stars as Pakistan crush Indians **](http://uk.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/2004/MAR/090931_PAKIND2003-04_11MAR2004.html)

Pakistan A 336 for 4 (Taufeeq 104, Nazir 65, Faisal 50*) beat Indians 335 for 6 (Dravid 92*, Tendulkar 76, Sehwag 75) by six wickets with four overs to spare

The feel-good factor of India’s start to their tour evaporated quickly as Pakistan A’s young batsmen launched a murderous assault on the hapless Indian bowlers, achieving a stiff target of 336 with ridiculous ease. Taufeeq Umar, who boasts a Test average of 46 over 19 matches, hammered 104 (89 balls, 13 fours, 2 sixes), and along with Imran Nazir (65, 32 balls, 9 fours, 2 sixes) gave Pakistan A the kind of start that made it possible for them to achieve victory with six wickets and four overs to spare.

**Just after the 20-over mark of their innings Pakistan’s run rate dropped sharply to 10 an over. That people even noticed this was a reflection on Pakistan’s domination. **Zaheer Khan’s return to international cricket began in the worst possible manner – his first over went for 17 runs. But, that figure was left in the shade later in the innings, when Irfan Pathan and Murali Kartik were left dazed and confused. Pathan went for 24 while Kartik’s first over read: 4, 4 byes, 4, 4, 1, 6. It was just that sort of a day. The Pakistan A batsmen came out with a clear plan: they would not let the bowlers settle. The introduction of each new bowler into the attack was greeted with great relish.

Sourav Ganguly rotated the bowling as well as he could and tinkered with the odd field setting but there was simply no stemming the onslaught. At the end of 10 overs Pakistan A were 136 for no loss and by 20 overs they had reached 199 for 1, as Umar settled in for the long haul while Imran went hell-for-leather.

The opening stand was worth 127 from just 8.3 overs and virtually settled the matter in favour of Pakistan A. Imran was fooled by a clever slower ball from Zaheer, and lost his stumps attempting a big shot (127 for 1). At this stage the Indians were pumped up and had a whiff of a chance of getting back into the game.

Naumanullah, tall and strong, walked confidently out to the middle and made sure that the fall of one wicket did not herald another. He contented himself with working the ball into the gaps and picked off the easy runs on offer. The bowlers had wilted and the fielding was anything but sharp. His 35 from 45 balls pushed the score on to 220 before the next wicket fell. By this stage, the Indians had been shut out of the match. Faisal Iqbal applied the finishing touches. He simply toyed with the bowling for his unbeaten 50. He batted with total freedom and rubbed salt into India’s wounds with two sixes and a four.

The bowling analyses did not make for happy reading – Zaheer went for 78 from nine overs, Lakshmipathy Balaji for 60 from 6, while Pathan conceded 49 for five. They all lacked the discipline needed to succeed on a good batting pitch, and strayed too often onto the pads. They were full when they needed to be just short of a length and provided the batsmen with the chance to hit through the line.

But, it was not all bad for the Indians. It was merely a familiar story. The bowlers struggled while the batsmen succeeded gloriously – every top-order batsman save Ganguly made runs. Virender Sehwag was his usual carefree self. He smote the bowling to all parts, including a trademark uppercut six over third man, making 75 off 68 balls. Sachin Tendulkar was excessively watchful to start with, and he appeared more keen to get a feel of the ball in the middle of the bat than to dominate the bowling. Eventually he played a few gems, but in all it was an innings that lacked fluency. He too, however, ended with a substantial score – 76 from 82 balls.

The real gem of the Indian innings, however, came from Rahul Dravid. He came to the wicket with the team scoring at a hectic pace, and settled down to a quiet half-century. After that, though, he opened his shoulders to play some fine flicks, pulls and cuts in a 69-ball 92. India managed 335, but it turned out to be woefully inadequate.

I hate our bowlers. I loathe them. How can anyone give away 45 extras and not be able to defend 335? even after all this time they have to be told to not stray onto the pads!!! beggers.

:k:

I agree! :rotfl:

when is saw india had put up 335, i felt this was just the start india wanted and thought they would be in stunning form. however, now that they lost, this is just what they didn't want i would say. now they have to travel to the biggest stage they've played on since the World Cup Final against a boisterous and partisan crowd against a highly motivated group of cricketers, knowing they lost to the "A" team.

either it will propel India into action (because at the end of the day, this was just a practice match and nothing more) or be a sign of things to come in this series. for the life of me, i can't imagine the indian bowling being this bad but maybe it is?

Yeah, they're really that bad, unless it's a set up to lull the Pak batsmen. Whatever, glad it happened in the warm up match. if these beggars can't learn anything out of this and come back better tomorrow then drop them. get amit bhandari and powar to open the attack, as we saw with Pak A sometimes the youngsters play better in an effort to prove themselves.

Yesssssssss, we won. Unbelieveable win for Pakistan-A.
lekin I am fearing that Pakistani team would become over-confident while the India team would come back eager to take revenge.

Remember, Imran Nazir and Taufeeq Umar had nothing to fear, even if they had lost their wicket, it was a “practice match” so they enjoyed it till it lasted. They may not be able to repeat this performance even if bowling standard remains same in an ODI.

Though it demolished Indian bowlers’ confidence, their batsmen will come out more strongly to score even higher knowing the weakness in their bowling which would be a problem for our bowlers esp when we have only one strike bowler in Shoaib with occasional performance from Sami while Shabbir is newbie (relatively).

I hope our national team performs even better :jhanda:

Taufeeq Umar :bhangra:

Tendulkar :nuch:

nach ni nach …

Now people are talking my tounge. Guys for last two weeks in my post, I am advocating Taufeeq Umer to open with Imran and bring Yasir to come at No. 3. I am glad that I picked the guy who has goods to deliver and nobody was considering him in Farhat/Yasir/Afridi’s presence. :rotato: I know his confidence, which we all witnessed in WC03 games. He is fearless and has technique. Just like our great Saeed Anwar. :k:

:jhanda:

Pakistan Zindabad.

I wished couple of days ago that Zaheer and Phattan get thrashed in the first 10 overs by our openers. Paksitan A fullfilled by wish. Way to go boys.

I think mastermind Miandad will consider both Nazir and Taufeeq incase if any of our opener didn’t click. Yonis Khan is definetely out from the picture.

I predict, Taufeeq will open in Tests.

holy crap, I can’t believe my eyes.
Hope to see the same spectacular batting by Pakistanis in all ODIs and Tests. I’m not going to say anything about great indian bowlers… :rotato:

chadis off to u pakistanis... i was shocked to say the least :p
