sb, please ready yourself for a kick in the bum.

Well, as long as we are talking about non-cricketing skills to argue for a captain, I am sure a lot of people (read girls) will want our captain to be as good-looking as Imran Khan presumably was. I mean, personality bhi koi cheez hai.

So, if someone says, we should make Afridi as captain, I guess they will also have a point? :hehe:

That said… jo hona thaa ho giya. Hopefully Yoyo will gain some great experience while being the deputy to Lateef, and by the time Lateef retires, he will leave an enough trained Yoyo to lead the team in to a lot of success in the future.

And just to make sherrybaba happy, and People’s Champ off my back, let me send Yoyo, “Learn English in 7 days” audio cassettes. Inshallah, buhat faida ho ga. :k:

Quite obviously, Yoyo will learn not only english, but other responsibilites on captaining.

It's all a learning experience, and everything takes time. :)

Btw, Faisal don't you think Yoyo is pretty or what? :rotfl"

Sorry if I gave you any headache... Lets hope Rashid latif exceeds our expectations. I'm counting on him.

good decision..

by makin rashid latif captain.. we shouldnt drop moin khan.. he is one of the best batsman we have..

GOOD luck Pakistani team..

miandaad would be great i hope he will introduce some modern technology into our team…like Australians do..

btw wat happened to Imram khan…?? he was supposed to get some position in the team too right.. :konfused:

The Game Responds:

*Rashid Latif; the man who proves again and again that he is a freakin' hypocrite. Why doesn't the monkey just retire and let Moin Khan or even Humayun Farhat(who is definitely more talented than Kamran Akmal) take over. We have Saqlain Mushtaq who can lead the side very well; and we give the vice captaincy to Yousuf Youhana? And on top of that, we all know what group Rashid Latif belongs to, so you can rest assured that Mr. Waqar Younis will definitely retain his place in the side. Some very pathetic decisions. Really. People, That Is All.*

How is Rashid Latif a hypocrit ?
He is one of the few seniors that gives 100% effoert in every match, no doubt he has had a past of controversy, but when you have players like Wasim, waqar and Shoaib in the team, politics are always going to be played. Latif along with basit Ali and Amir Sohail was one of the members of the team that tried to put an end to match fixing, and what happened ? He lost his place in the team.....

As a stop gap captain, he is the only choice we have. Akram is banned from captaining the team. As for Miandad being coach, that solves the no 3 dispute. As youhana, inzi and Younis K all have some problem batting at 3, Miandad will bring back Faisal Iqbal, whose done a good job at 3, and played with a lot of maturity against warne in our recent matches against the Aussies....

If there's a doubt about Yoyo being a future captain it's only on whether he will actually be able to command enough authority among his own players. If his team wins I don't care if he gives his interviews in bengali.

Just because he cannot speak english, that should not deny him the role of captaincy. If he is good enough who cares, if he wins and speaks in urdu, the majority of cricket fans (Indian and Pakistanis) will understand what he is saying. Have other nations ever chosen their captains based on the fact that the majority of the cricket fans in the world are based in the subcontinenet and many millions of them cant understand english. The only criteria should be whether he can lead the team ably. The rest is secondary.

right :k: even Kapil Dev could speek only hindi ( not even hindi , haryanvi :hehe: ) when he was made captain ! Yoyo has been most dependable batsman of paki team and thats sufficient to command respect!

Wow all big names droped…

Saeed,Inzi,Wasim,Waqar,Saqlian,Afridi,Shoib gone…
Great move… This will pay in long run.
But why they ignored Imran nazir and Hasan Raza

this Imran nazir guy is good ; I dnt know , why he’s missing

wat about saqlain akram n anwar?
they were doin well.....they shouldve played atleat 1 more tourney.....a completely new-look team will take too much time to get settled!
imran nazir got kicked out for not performing....thats not the right attitude....they should groom him n correct his technique rather than throwing him out!

This decision should pay off in the long-term!

great decision, better to swallow the bitter pill now rather than later but don't underestimate how much guts it took to make this decision. long overdue.

Hassan Raza is more of a test player than an ODI.

Anyone has any info on the following:

Mohammed Hafeez, Naveed ul Hassan and Umer Gul.

I don't know why they are persisting with Zahid, he has never recovered from his injuries.

Good to see Misbah and Shoaib Malik back :k:

I think there should have been a place for Imran Nazir in a one day tournament but maybe he isn’t doing enough at domestic level to earn a place in the side.

Watching the fast bowling line up will be interesting. Zahid looked llike a flogged horse in the match he played against SA.

**Aamer Sohail: We are looking for the future](http://www-pak.cricket.org/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/2003/MAR/159836_PAK_20MAR2003.html)

The Pakistan cricket selectors Thursday named a new-look 16-man Pakistan team for the tri-nation Sharjah Cup to be played between April 1 and 10. Seven members of the ICC Cricket World Cup team, including Waqar Younis and world record holder Wasim Akram, were dropped. Others who failed to make the squad include Saeed Anwar, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Azhar Mahmood, Saqlain Mushtaq, Shoaib Akhtar and Shahid Afridi.

“It has been a very difficult decision to leave out the maestros but we are looking for the future. This is the beginning of a rebuilding phase and some of the bitter pills will have to be swallowed. We will have to keep patient, wait and hope for the young guns to justify their talent”, chairman of selectors Aamer Sohail told a news conference.

“We have not closed the chapter on the superstars. On the basis of just one poor tournament, their past achievements and heroics cannot be forgotten”, Aamer said.

The survivors from the South African tour are: Rashid Latif (captain), Yousuf Youhana (vice-captain), Taufeeq Umar, Saleem Elahi, Younis Khan, Abdul Razzaq and Mohammad Sami.

Mohammad Hafeez, Naved-ul-Hasan and Umar Gul are the only upcapped players in the side.

Hafeez plays for Sargodha and appeared for Sui Gas that won the Kardar Trophy. He is a right-handed opening batsman and a useful off-spinner. Naved-ul-Hasan has previously toured with Pakistan team but has not played. He comes from Sheikhupura and represents Allied Bank. He is a fast bowling all-rounder. Umar Gul, a pathan from Peshawar, plays for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and has been a consistent performer in the domestic and junior level. He is a right-arm fast-medium bowler.

“I think it is the right time to throw the youngsters in and let them show what they have got. In the absence of the big boys, I think they will realize their responsibilities more than ever. They will know that the seniors are not there and whatever has to be done, it is to be done by only them. This fact will help us know about their mental toughness because in modern day cricket, you have to be mentally very very tough”, skipper Rashid Latif said.

Aamer Sohail said it would be premature to say that the careers of the senior boys had reached the dead-end.

"The problem is that we didn’t try the youngsters in the past and therefore, now we don’t know if the backup boys have the talent, temperament and potential to carry on the good work left by the seniors. We have to persist with the youngsters and keep throwing them in until we are convinced about the future.

“This process may take a few tournaments before we know where we stand. Until we are absolutely sure about the youngsters, we will not close the chapter on the seniors”, he said, adding: “The senior players have been excellent servants to the game and the country and we know that it is going to be a painstaking period for everyone associated with this sport. But we had to start this process sometime and now it is for everyone to back these youngsters and keep patient”.

Aamer specifically talked about Inzamam-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwar, Shoaib Akhtar and Saqlain Mushtaq.

“As far as Inzi is concerned, if you recall he had a lean period against Australia in 1999-2000. He was dropped but when he came back, he was charged up and piled up runs and runs. I think he needs rest, regroup himself and recharge his batteries because I strongly feel he has at least three years of cricket left in him. Saeed Anwar, we all know that he is around but probably needs to improve his fielding a little bit. You see in one-day cricket, you have to have young legs because you field, bat and bowl for 100 overs. As regards Saqlain Mushtaq, he has looked out of sorts in the last six months and probably needs a break from international cricket. Likewise, Shoaib Akhtar also needs to work on his fitness”. * And his attitude *

Aamer Sohail said not 90 per cent but 100 per cent of Rashid Latif’s demands were accepted by his selection committee. “We have fully backed Rashid because he is the man who is going to lead the team in the field. But he has been told in clear terms that there should not be any experiments and the players will have to play in their positions unless situation demands some reshuffle in batting order”.

On the inclusion of Abdul Razzaq, Rashid Latif said he was an excellent all-rounder. “His performance was affected because he was constantly shuffled up and down. He needs some confidence because that’s what he actually lacks at the moment”.
