Just heard on TV that Waqar has been sacked as captain and Rashid has been appointed as new captain. The captain had his chances to step down, but no he wanted to be humiliated and so he has been.
Good luck to Rashid and hopefully he can build a good team around him.
** Here is a summary of the changes:
Waqar - Sacked as Captain
Rashid - New Captain
Youhanna - Vice Captain
Miandad - Coach
Haroon Rashid - Manager
Selection Committee:
Aamer Sohail, will head the new selection committee of former Test players Saleem Yousaf, Shoaib Muhammad, Farukh Zaman and Shafiq Ahmed. **
Looks like at long last the changes are taking place and right ones for the Pakistani cricket. Lets hope the Pak cricket team regains its old glory.
**Wicket-keeper Rashid Latif has been persuaded to come out of retirement to lead Pakistan following Waqar Younis’ sacking on Wednesday. **
Waqar paid the price for Pakistan’s abysmal showing at the World Cup, where they failed to qualify for the second phase.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also announced former Test star Javed Miandad as the team’s new coach following Richard Pybus’ decision to quit.
“Javed Miandad is the new coach while Haroon Rasheed is the new manager of the Pakistan team which will appear in next month’s Sharjah tournament,” PCB spokesman Samiul Hasan said.
Latif, 34, had announced his retirement from Test cricket late last year after persistent neck problems.
He pulled out of a tour to Zimbabwe after doctors suggested neck vertebrae damage could result in partial paralysis.
The veteran of 34 Tests and 149 one-dayers said he was “too tired” for five-day cricket, and announced his retirement from all international cricket last month.
**But Pakistan officials have convinced him to carry on, appointing batsman Yousaf Youhana as his deputy. **
Latif, who has competed with Moin Khan for the wicket-keeper role since his debut in 1992, was a key figure in exposing the match-fixing scandals of the 1990s.
the greatest news possible at this critical juncture of Pakistan cricket. Haroon Rashid and Miandad both are commentating on TenSports channel and they usually share same ideas. Haroon is a master strategist himself. He will help Miandad in man management and Ofcourse Miandad and Rashid go along very well.. :k: :jhanda:
Selection of Youhanna as VC is indeed a good move. He has got some talent but he lacks experience which will give him a chance to learn. Bravo PCB :k:
Our team should consists of young players with few senior players just like we had in 92’ world cup. It gives youngsters to show their talent while elders can control their emotional stuff. I hope the nervousness of 99’ world cup team and absolute fiasco of 2003 world cup won’t be repeated next time.
Heads have rolled, people have been called to account for their actions and new management is being put in place. The only blemish is that General sahib escaped unscathed. Still what has happened is good. Hopefully Pakistan can now begin the long road to recovery and rebuilding.
Over to you Rashid, Miandad and the new selection committee.

so waqar wasim anwar and inzi are playing under rashid?
are they playing or they are retiring?...
MUBAARKAAN!
very good selection.....miandad n haroon rashid are the rite people fot the job.....im sure we'll see some kind of game plan the next time the team goes onto the field!
Its going to be a new era for Pakistan cricket. Rashid is a tiger, a dedicated cricketer, even though he does not have that much cricket left in him, hopefully he can groom Youhana well. My only concern is that I don't think Youhana is an intelligent cricketer, a little like Inzimam. He is a beautiful batsmen, but when it comes to analysis and thinking about the game itself, I personally believe Youhana is lacking in that department.
Haroon Rashid and Javed Miandad will make a good team inshallah, and as Amir Sohail is the new head of selection committee, he has always been one for experimenting and bringing new cricketers on to the scene. Hope to see Imran Nazir and Farhat back in the team. Waqar should most definately play in the England tour, he was their most successful bowler their in 2001.
Good Luck pakistan!
Looks like good news to me :k:. I hope the other remaining seniors in the team support Rashid as captain and transfer their experience to the younger ones so they can carry on the responsibility!
Finally PCB has got it right. Right men as captain, coach and manager and right selectors. Aamir Sohail is no-nonsense person and also the fact that he knows modern day requirements and understands Unlike Bari that cricket has changed. Good job PCB and Best of luck Pakistan
