is it allowed or no??
Re: Using toothpaste when fasting?
yes.
just rinse your mouth properly after that. If you want to, you can always use less minty toothpaste.
Re: Using toothpaste when fasting?
YES...but, some say NO...i brush my teeth...try to buy tasteless paste like carbonate type or something.
Re: Using toothpaste when fasting?
Here we go again.
Same questions surface every year during this time of the year such as this or ruling on moonsighting.
Some scholars allow it, some call it makrooh and some say No to it because of the taste you feel.
Those who do not agree with the fatwa that forbid usage of toothpaste during fast argue that miswak has taste too and it is allowed so should be the toothpaste.
Take your pick. You are not eating anything.
I avoid it just because I'm doubtful on the usage. Just brush my teeth after eating my kababs in sahoor and never have to worry about it.
Re: Using toothpaste when fasting?
I stop using miswak in ramadan out of fear of its taste and now it is ok to use. ![]()
Re: Using toothpaste when fasting?
Roza nullifies not if you taste anything, it nullifies if you swallow. Cooks are allowed to taste food for salt, too. Yes we should not do it unnecessarily but cleaning teeth is a necessary act.

Peace All,
I knew that someone will going to open this thread. Now its open lets reveiw it again b'coz some members (new to this discussion) needed information (knowledge) and some other members (thoes who already discussed) can guide them better as they reviewed this discussion many many time.
I'll start here.
Why one in need to brush his/her teeth when he/she in state of fasting? He/she can do it after sehri but before adhaan and after iftari too. In that case those who says usage of toothpaste is forbidden than I guess they are right.

Re: Using toothpaste when fasting?
I avoid it in fasting, I do it right after sehri.. I am not the one who waits for the last minute and eat or drink until then ![]()
Re: Using toothpaste when fasting?
Concur with Jinx.
Not a fatwa but based on being cautious and yet keeping hygiene in mind, one should use tooth paste immediately after eating at sahoor.
Then just plain tooth brush can be used with fresh water if needed during the day.
Miswak can be used without any problem as well regardless of its 'taste'.
Finally, it all depends on the intention, need and being cautious....all merged together.
Re: Using toothpaste when fasting?
The key difference between siwak and toothpaste is that siwak does not taste of a food product, but toothpaste normally does taste of a food product.
The bad breath in Ramadan is more blessed to Allah (SWT) than the sweetest musk. It is not to say that we seek out trying to have bad breath, but where siwak may fail to clear the smell it is almost evident that other forms of breath freshening are not considered important in this Hadith that having good smelling breath is a must.
Re: Using toothpaste when fasting?
Peace All,
As psyah bhai said in para-2, I think those who says usage of 'toothpaste' is forbidden they r right. However, there is no harm using siwak.

The bad breath in Ramadan is more blessed to Allah (SWT) than the sweetest musk..
bhai sahab, wo allah ko pasand hai, baqi bandon ko nahi. Doossron ka bhee khayal karain. Prophet forbid people to come to the mosque if they had eaten garlic or onion - then why one should be allowed to come to masjid when he has a bad breath because of fasting
Re: Using toothpaste when fasting?
^ We fast for Allah, baqi bando ke liye nahin, so we should follow what Allah likes, baqi banday nahin!!
Example, when you meet someone you love most, you wear things that he/she loves, you dont care about what rest of the public thinks!!

then why even brush after sehri. oos ko bhee chor dain. aur khushboo aa’ye gee mounh se.
Re: Using toothpaste when fasting?
What about using miswak…?![]()
Re: Using toothpaste when fasting?
ye jaan boojh ke munh main paida ki gayee smell ki baat nahin horahi, Rozaydar ke munh ki smell ki baat hay, means DURING FASTING!! so jab sehri ki jaye, foran paste use kerlain but once aap niyat karlen aur seher ka waqat khatam hojaye, you should not brush your teeth with paste!!
Re: Using toothpaste when fasting?
