Hence, it shouldnt matter. One's relationship or marriage based on lies might work, but deep down in his/her mind, he/she will have to live with a big lie. Their consciousness will continue to haunt them, especially if they have a very nice and understanding partner.

I think people lie because they can. Not saying its right or worng, but it happens.
As for this whole lying to rishtay business, I wouldnt think anybody would be discussing personal relationships at the tea trolly meeting! You would have to be really serious about someone with regards to marriage to even begin discussing such issues. Until then, selective information should suffice. That doesnt mean deny any relationships when asked, it means use common sense. Starting any relationship based on a lie never works out.
