Unlocking the iPhone 4

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

Did you swap out the plist file yet? You can install SSH server, turn it on and send one of us ur IP. We can get in to the phone and change the plist file for you, If you are not comfortable doing it, that is. The exact location was in teh direction that Exodus posted.

Once you install SSHd, use WinSCP and point it to the Phone’s IP and use root/alpine as the credentials. Then drill down and access the files.

Here are the details on SSH:

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

TLK bhai, let me get this straight. Your phone is jailbroken and software unlocked or factory unlocked?

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

Ok I will do that TB

my phone is not software unlocked. Its unlocked using gevey sim. That means that if I turn my phone off and on again, I have to re-unlock it. Its a simple 2 mins process though.

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

okay yeah its gevey sim. Here is something that I sent to one of friends and he activated it after some attempts. Let me know if that helps

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

Thanks Seb. I will wait till the weekend to go through Exodus and Your post, plus the info that TB and Samad posted.

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

OK I was reading Dev Team blogs and realized that some hacker @pod2g already released the jailbreaking of ios5 devices that are on A4 chips, which included Iphone 4 (but not 4S). The method seems pretty similar to the ones you use to unlock previous Iphones.

My question is …

Dev Team blog keeps referring to the term ‘Jailbreaking’ and never used the term ‘Unlocked’ throughout that tutorial. But I know that when I used the similar method to my previous older Iphone, I was able to Jailbreak and Unlock it. If I use this method, should I be able to Unlock my phone as well? The advantage I am seeing is that I can upgrade my phone to iOS5, that I cannot do through my current unlock technique (Gevey Sim unlock)

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

^ you should be able to unlock too provided you do not update your iphone baseband to the latest version. There are tutorials on modmyI and iClarified on how to do it. Jail broken facilitates unlocking through a simple utility called ultra snow which works on some recent baseband versions but not the latest version.

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

Yes I read iClarified tutorial and realized that as long as I am updating through custom ipsw, i should be ok in terms of baseband.

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

TLK. I had an iphone 4 and updated to ios 5 with ih8sn0w without jailbreaking it. gevey sim doesn’t work really good on ios 5 as much. like you really have to mess with it. the big difference between unlock and jailbreak is that with unlock you can use any carrier want but with jailbreak you can customize it. but most people jailbreak so they can download paid apps for free. i have an iphone 4S now so i can facetime and use imessage without any problems. the only reason you can’t you facetime is because of gevey sime with that i does not recognize your number. only way can use it have people dial to your facetime id. but personally i wouldn’t jailbreak iphone with ios 5 anymore because it has everything i need

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

Is there a tutorial available that could help me to Unlock (I also dont care about Jailbreaking much) my Iphone 4 on iOS 5 without gevey? COuld you post the link to ih8sn0w tutorial?

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

if you already have upgraded to ios 5 without preserving the baseband then your out of luck. see gevey sim only works baseband 4.10.01 or lower it does not work with baseband 04.11.08. personally i wouldn’t advise to you to upgrade to ios 5 with baseband preserved. it’s pain in the butt. to use gevey sim on ios 5

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

No I have not upgraded my iphone. I am still on 4.2.1 with baseband 3.10.01. I love to upgrade to iOS 5 only so I can mirror play it on my Apple TV and also to use the iCloud feature. I want to figure our a software unlocked method instead of going through Gevey as you rightfully said, its a pain.

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

if you have windows go to ih8sn0w.com or if you have mac download latest redsn0w and download that in both case you need to download the ios 5.0.1 and you can download that from iPhone, iPod, iPad and Apple TV Firmware Download , but if you this iphone has your main phone i would highly advise against it cause it doesn’t take 2-3 minutes. in order to unlock you have to try it multiple times and randomly signal goes away. and you have to do the whole process again. because of that reason i bought factory unlocked iphone 4S

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

OK, that is all I wanted to know. Yes this is my main phone so as you advised, I think I should refrain from unlocking for now

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

well you can still unlock but don’t upgrade to ios 5. even you can’t resist it. upgrade with custom firmware. while i have you one the ropes. dude ios 5 is amazing. love the icloud and airplay amazing. i have icloud on ipad. iphone and macbook. it has made my life so much easier. well, tech wise

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

Yes, I have Ipad 2 and Icloud plus air play mirroring are very cool features.

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

Thinking of selling my ipad 2 next month. before the 3 comes out. i really want retina display. i really think 3 is going to be much better. there wasn’t big difference between 1 and 2 besides speed

Re: Unlocking the iPhone 4

I have both 1 and 2. After ios5 came out, you can see more difference as 1 does not support mirroring of every thing you are doing on Apple TV. Ipad 2 can do that.

Having said that, I am probably going to keep 1 and 2, but will definitely going to buy 3 also. Or maybe I am going to sell 1.
