Under 19 World cup

Re: Under 19 World cup

Pakistan Under-19s 79/2 (18.0/47 ov)

Pakistan need 252 in 47 overs (overs and target adjusted because of rain).

Re: Under 19 World cup

Rain has stopped play again. If the match is to be reduced to only 20 overs to get a result...Pakistan need to be at 91/2 after 20 overs to win. Pakistan is currently 86/2 after 18.5 overs. It could be a very very tricky situation and in favor of SA because if Pakistan even lose 1 more wicket, the target will shoot up to 104 after 20 overs.

:( I hope one way or the other, Pakistan wins this game. Ahmed Shehzad is definetly an exciting talent to watch out for. He has a good technique and some of his drives have been brilliant. Also, he's a brilliant fielder and a very useful legspinner for ODI's as well.

Re: Under 19 World cup

Fkhan bhai, well written but I somewhat disagree. From the first U19 WC champion team there were a few players who shined....like Mansoor Amjed, Tariq Mehmood, and Salman Qadir. Mansoor Amjed has been playing domestic cricket for a while and has played for the Pakistan A team and tour matches as well but has failed to do anything extraordinary. Others have been better than him. Salman Qadir has been struggling in domestic cricket ever since and Tariq Mehmood had major action problems with his bowling which was suspected during the WC.

Now in the last WC U19 champion team...there was Khalid Latif, Nasir Jamshed, Sarfraz Ahmed Anwar Ali Jamshed Ahmed who were the stars. We are already seeing Jamshed as a future opener for the Pakistani team as the selectors have hinted, Latif has been given a chance but looks like he is more suited in the test format...and Sarfraz is already being groomed and if it wasnt for Malik's love affair with Akmal, Sarfraz would have been a regular keeper for Pakistan a while ago. Anwar Ali has some action problems as well, not that its illegal, but that it causes him a lot of injury problem according to Mansoor Rana, the current Pakistan U19 coach. Jamshed Ahmed has been playing some domestic cricket and his performence has been OK, but nothing spectecular, and also has some injury issues.

Mansoor Rana also said in a recent interview that cricket in the U19 level is very different, they dont play as often and once the players are over 19 and get a chance to show the potential in domestic cricket, they get bogged down with injuries with the amount of cricket being played. Its up to the player to maintain his fitness...Academies can only tell the players what to do and how to do it...its up to the players to actually maintain their fitness.

I firmly believe that its neither the lack of talent or laziness on the part of PCB that these U19 players have not been coming to the top level. There is a huge difference between U19 level and the top level and I believe its the lack of disipline among our younger players which causes them to not perform up to their ability. But im glad, that Latif, Nasir, Sarfraz have shown that they have the talent to make it to the top level...and now after seeing Shehzad, Adil, Asad Ali, Imad Wasim in the current WC campaign...Im even more hopeful that we will see these players make it to the top level and represent Pakistan at the highest level.

Re: Under 19 World cup

09:50 local time: We have some bad news, it has been raining since yesterday night. It is pouring down at the moment. According to the groundsman if the rain stopped, ground would be ready in 1 hour. They only need 1.1 over to get a result and Pakistan only need 5 runs. We might be here the whole day. Lot of time left, the cut off time is 18:15 local time.

South Africa are ahead on net run rates and if there is no play today then they go through to the finals but there is lot of time left. The umpires will start reducing the overs in 2 hours time.

Re: Under 19 World cup

Congatz to Indian guppies on being crowned under-19 world champions

Re: Under 19 World cup

True.

Pakistan production line producing some great batsmen for the future and no doubt will follow in the footsteps of Khalid Lateef, Nasir Jamsheed…… The captain Imad Wasim is another Shoiab Malik (bits and pieces player).

I stated above that the South Africans will strangle Pakistan and this is exactly what they did. The defending champions chocked just like their illustrious senior stars.

What exactly was the role of Ijaz Ahmed in the team? Was he a fielding coach or an assistant coach?

Re: Under 19 World cup

Great win for India.

India 20/20 champions and now under 19 World champions.

Some of the guys especially the batsmen will be groomed and coached by professional and qualified people which Indian board has hired and no doubt go and play in the senior side.

Both South Africa and India coached by very good coaches and seemed had a good professional back up team including analysts.

Manmohan Singh or the President of the country will no doubt be inviting the winning side for tea and will be awarding them cash prizes, possibly plot of land etc like they do in a certain other country.

Re: Under 19 World cup

Indias lucky spree is continuing lets see for how long It will last. Now they won the U-19.

Re: Under 19 World cup

I would not call U-19 team's win a lucky spree.....they have never lost in the last one and half years, got to give them some credit.

Re: Under 19 World cup

Rock_exp/saieen, if you guys hate Pakistani cricket so much, stop following them. And let us enjoy cricket. :pcg:

Re: Under 19 World cup

I am sure you would have stated that in the previous two world cups as well and than would have beaten a hasty retreat after they won the cup.
