We face SA not India in the semi final. Will have to wait to face India in the final if they win against SL/NZ in the other semi final.
Congrats everyone.

Re: Under 19 World cup
Pakistani bowling has been on fire in this whole tournament but its batting which needs to fire. Im glad Ahmed Shehzad finally got some runs today…he’s a great opener. There was a lot of hype surrounding Umar Akmal before the tournament but he has been exposed as a flat track bully. There is a lot more moisture in the pitches of Malaysia and the intial 5-7 overs are very difficult batting conditions. This is one of the reason why our fast bowlers have done so well.
Asad Ali has been the batman of the tournament so far for Pakistan. He must be the top scorer by far among the Pakistani batsmen. Pakistan play SA in the semi-final…Inshallah we will beat them too and reach the final! ![]()
Re: Under 19 World cup
Good performance by the bowlers. Our top order is shaky even at U19's level. That's not a good sign. Adil Raza from Gujranwala :) looks promising young bowler.
Re: Under 19 World cup
The wicketkeeper looks good as a keeper and as a batsman. If these younger keepers continue to perform and impress than time may be running out for squeeky........
Re: Under 19 World cup
Pakistan under 19 teams have done well in the recent past but you don't see these players succeeding at the top level. India, on the other hand, has been pretty aggresive in blooding their under 19 players to the national team and they have done well. In the current Indian ODI squad in Australia there are at least ten players that have come up from under 19 level in the last 2-3 years. Dinesh Karthik, Praveen Kumar, Piyush Chawla, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Robin Uthappa, RP Singh and Irfan Pathan all played for Indian under 19 teams since 2003. Add to this Sreesanth (Kerala under 19) and Manoj Tiwary (Bengal under 19) and Inshant Sharma (he played for India under 19 in England 2006) and you see almost a full squad.
In the current Pakistan team I know of Salman Butt as an under 19 graduate. Is there any one else?

India taking good advantage of it

smooth sailing for India at the moment

The highly-rated Umar Akmal hasn’t quite set the World Cup on fire yet © Faras Ghani
While scrolling down the Pakistan team list, the name Akmal is impossible to miss for it’s right on top. The obvious question follows, is he the Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran’s brother? Indeed he is. Umar, the youngest of the Akmal brothers, has had a quiet Under-19 World Cup but has a reputation as a fearsome striker of the ball.
Just ask England or Sri Lanka against whom he scored 269 runs in six matches in a tri-series before the World Cup or the bowlers of Karachi Blues against whom Umar smashed 248 - 215 in a day - in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy in 2007-08. Akmal scored 855 runs in his maiden first-class season in Pakistan and it’s just one of the reasons his coach Mansoor Rana and Ijaz Ahmed, the fielding coach, have so much praise for him.
“One innings from Umar can change everything,” Rana said. “He can demolish, he can win the game in ten overs.”
That destructive ability hasn’t been on view in Malaysia. Umar was dismissed for single-digit scores in the group matches and he made 17 in the quarter-final against Australia. His technique against Australia did not impress, he backed away to good length balls and tried to hit towards cover or moved across his stumps and attempted to pull through midwicket. Rana, however, insisted that the innings was an aberration rather than the norm.
“Only in the previous game against Australia did Umar play across the line, otherwise he plays straight,” Rana said. “That innings was unlike him. Maybe he was excited because of the television coverage; perhaps he got carried away on a good pitch after the seaming tracks in Johor.”
Those are indications that Umar still has a long way to go to mature into a rounded batsman; after all he is only 17. Rana even sees a bit of Shahid Afridi in Umar.
“What ever you tell Afridi, he will keep nodding and saying yes. I ask Umar ‘what is your plan?’ He says ‘I’ll bat for 50 overs’ and I start laughing. When he gets out after scoring 40-50 off seven-eight overs I tell him there are still 40 overs to go. He says ‘that was my plan Mansoor bhai but I don’t know what happens’.”
Umar realises he’s been given a free hand to play his natural game, but even though his failures have been in Johor where the conditions were difficult for batting he says the “bad pitches were no excuse”. His aim is to play an innings that “will make people forget the failures”.
Rana and Ijaz haven’t tried to change Umar’s aggressive approach for that is his USP. Instead they have encouraged him by asking him to open, which he doesn’t do at first-class level, and urged him to show discretion in shot selection.
“I want him to play shots but once you hit a four or a six you need to block to keep the good balls out,” Rana said. “The reason he is opening is so that he can take advantage of an open field. He doesn’t look at where the fielders are. Even if long-off and long-on are deep and you give him a flighted ball he’ll take it as a challenge and will try to hit.”
Umar has one, possibly two more innings, to show a worldwide TV audience what he can do. His role is pivotal for depending on how he fares, Pakistan could either get off to a flier against South Africa in the semi-final, or lose a very early wicket.
Re: Under 19 World cup
I don't know if it is even going to make any difference if Pakistan will win the world cup, atleast with the current mindset of PCB.
Are there youngsters going to play for Pakistan national side? 4 years ago Pakistan won the title in Bangladesh and then 2 years later defended it in Srilanka.
Can we name one player out of 28 players from the 2 squads of these 2 World Cups who is a regular member of Pakistan team? OR can we name one player who was seriously groomed by PCB or they atleast attempted to groom him to be part of the national squad??
For crying out loud these players are world champions so they are suppose to be better than other youngsters in the country. If PCB doesn't intend to give them any chance, why they even bother to send them in the competition?

so true
sometimes i wish, like others, that respective boards/selectors can use a little common sense once in a while, its not too much to ask

Very well written.
Surely, some of these players who were part of the previous World cup winning squads should have been given further coaching and grooming at the national cricket academy and get them ready for senior sides.
Therefore, there should be a question raised about the role of Pakistan National Academy playing in grooming the young players.
I am not too sure if the academy is being effective and producing the next set of players and if the people at the academy are doing their work properly or the right ones.
The previous two under 19 winning sides had few players who looked really talented and there was a lot of flair about them. They are no way near the national side.
I had a briefly seen the current under 19 side and apart from the wicket keeper and possibly Adil Raza, I don't think any one else seems that good or is impressive.
Re: Under 19 World cup
South Africa Under-19s 260/8 (50.0 ov)
It will be a tough task for the fragile batting side and also South Africa likely to be a good fielding side. They aren't likely to give away too many cheap singles.
Re: Under 19 World cup
Pakistan Under-19s 31/2
Not a good start for the defending champions and it won't be easy. South Africa are likely to strangle Pakistan.
Re: Under 19 World cup
I didnt know that PCB had an Academy and Im being serious here.
Re: Under 19 World cup
Shehzad batting well, on 23. He has played some very good drives. The guy has talent.
