but none of them cost even half of the Umar Sayeed. i just think you have to draw a line and say "okay, its important that i look good and feel good in what i wear, but is this figure justifiable?". i realize it's all relative, but just think that number seemed really high. i'm sure Umar Sayeed has clothes for a lot less,..as that would still be a lot.
in terms of charities, i'm not getting into my involvement. It's between me and God :)
okay so you can afford your 5-6k dresses because let's say you make or have an x amount of money. now people who can afford dresses worth 12k or more make or have twice the moolah than you. similarly, people who make or have half the amount of your x money can only afford a dress that's like maybe 2-3k. and let's also think about those who don't make or have even 5 percent of your x amount. so if you're all haye haye over a 12k dress, people who fall under the low income category will just faint if they found out about your 5-6k dresses because i am sure many of them cannot even afford to eat food while you're spending 5-6k on a dress alone? you must have chosen a dress according to your budget and what you like.. similarly, anyone else picking out a 12k dress isn't necessarily a showoff but wearing it because they can easily afford what they like.
basically, let's not judge or start the charity lecture because there's ALWAYS someone poorer than you and in need.

The amount that one gives to charity is a personal matter, and on the same note how much one decides to spend on their wedding is also a personal matter.

If umar is selling a lengha for 12K it does not follow that pakistan is expensive..the demand drives the supply…as long as there are people who are willing to pay X for a certain dress, there will be someone making it for them. As long as there are enough people who are shocked by price X, there will be someone willing to make something for them for a much lesser price.

Umar i think is overpriced, but his clothes r unique, and a lot of effort goes into his clothes
i do have to say i saw some of the sequins he used and to me they did not seem the best quality, i have seen better with other designers. but the embrodery technqiues he uses are time consuming and really intricate. they are like art

If you love it that much and can afford without going into debt of tens of thousands of dollars, then go right ahead. Don't buy it just because you can say *OH, I WORE UMER SAYEED ON MY WEDDING DAY!

Don't go into the interminable debate of why so and so designer is charging so much, whether it's worth it or not, whether I should buy it or not etc.
At the end of the day, it's your wedding and it's either you, your husband to be or his family or your parents who need to decide if they are financially sound enough to afford a dress that costs this much.

For those who talk about donations and charities versus a bridal dress that costs X amount, Islam doesn't tell you to suppress your wants. You are most certainly allowed to buy anything that you KNOw you can comfortably afford and for which you don't have to go around rob a few people in order to fulfill what your heart desires. What is haraam is when you buy something, and it doesn't even have to be a $12,000 dress, with an intent to flaunt and pretentiously display to people who YOU KNOW aren't able to make the same purchase.

personally, i think spending thousands of pounds on a wedding lengha is a waste of money. if its very expensive,its gonna be pretty extravagant, and so yuo're most likely to only wear it the once. i know brides want to look awesome at their weddings, but you can buy cheaper lenghas that are just as beautiful.
also, islam prohibits extravagance, so another reason for not spending thousands and thousands on one dress.
