Travelogues

kee yoot

this one time though, when i was travelling from london to the US, there was this very old and weak indian lady on the flight with me, she was coming from india…

throughout the flight, she was telling me how she had spent the last couple of days cooking these things for her son whom she was visiting in the US for the first time…

at US customs though when they asked her if she was carrying any food, she said yes, and they took away all of it :(:frowning: i even tried explaining to them but they didn’t listen :frowning:

okay here is another one..

its not really a travelogue.. or maybe it is.. khair those of u who have had the honour of travelling in one of those mini buses in khi, knows how small the section is for women in the bus and how some of the stupid men try to pass through that section while touching shoulders n stuff ..( yes i know its very disgusting, but they r mostly uneducated and we all know the harrasment goes on there is normal). by the way there is all sorts of crowds in the buses, from middle class educated to lower class. waisay i heard the system is pretty expensive for even ghareeb to travel now.

khair so me n my cousins decided to go to tariq road in one of those buses. hehe cuz one taxi cudnt fit all 9 of us and i guess we were all looking for some new experience, so decided to go in the bus instead. khair.. it was one of those dulhan bus ( thats what i named them) all decorated and songs being played in full volume (enuf to make u deaf). me n other cousin got one of those side seats for two. so this guy kept standing on the pole which was right next to my cousin's seat even though there was enuf space for him to sit behind. lekin noo he had to stand there and stare at all the girls. khair my cousin had long nails :D .. what she did as soon as he moved from his place for a min.. she held the pole in such a way that when he returned.. hehe.. my cousin's nails poked him real bad .. haha the guy turned with anger and hurried back to his seat.. my other cousins had a safety pin :D one of the guy was try to push himself in the women's section every time the brakes were applied. lolz just before we got off.. my cousin pierced his arm with the safety pin , he jumped and went back to his seat while rubbing arm vigorously! ..lolz.. i am sure he didnt do that again for a long time after this experience..

okay this sounds a bit mean .. but u have to understand the sick things these men will do to get attention there..

^

ouch  :bummer:

waisay some ppl surely do deserve this…three salutes to your cousin

my friend was telling me that she was walking with her cousin in tariq road when this person bumped into her deliberately and then walked past…after a minute, she took off her heel sandle, in the middle of the road, and threw it straight at the guy!!!

lol…

waisay yeah its sad, girls in our society have to face this stuff everyday…its terrible!!!

WHoa!!
Thanks for posting guys :k:

Keep adding
Sehar I have a similar story to tell, will be back laterz

Reading suroor's mini-bus episode, I remembered a true story told to me by a cousin of mine. He said it was true and he saw it happen. This guy he knew was notorious for touching and grabbing girls in buses. Once he was doing his usuall stuff to a girl who was draped in a full black burqa with the niqab down. Everytime the bus made a sudden stop he would lean (extra) over her and rub his body against her back. Very sick if u ask me.

He did it a couple of times. Third time, the girl slapped him on the face really hard and lifted her niqab. It was none other than his own SISTER!.

Ouccccccccccccccccch. Needless to say, he stopped doing that and wasn't seen in public for a few weeks.

 Good lesson for the guy!!!
That’s just horrible.

Not as exciting as some of your accounts, but back in my student days, I traveled pretty extensively in Europe for free (mostly hitch-hiking but often riding freight trains, cargo ships, regular trains, and a few times on planes - I flew on Russian and Yugoslav airlines a number of time without a ticket). I did that in Pakistan as well, and was caught only once. I think my ticket to hell has already been booked, and I feel responsible for the fall of communism.

.

Fungo, even if someone pays me a million bucks now, I wouldn’t dare doing it. There's time for such things, but I have always liked to push the limits, and who knows one day I might just decide to do that all over again. Back then, I was poor (still am) and had no choice.

NYA, it's because of people like you that Pakistan could never develop an honor-based transportation system. There are no bus conductors in Switzerland.

Thank you for the tip ;)

NYA, how the hell did u pull that off? Flying without a ticket?

Fungo, Yeah sure. But don't you think that I am product of Pakistan? I didn't think of riding for free as 'cheating' anyone. I just wanted to travel and experience the place at any cost (and at no cost). If it makes you feel better, I always paid for my food (except a few times when the grocers were not in the store, I didn't feel like waiting for them).

Shinoo..until the mid late 80s many airlines used manual ticketing systems. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the holes in the system. So I would just appear at the counter, explaining (with confidence) that my ticket has been lost, giving a false address in London, the trick was to appear without much luggage, and only about 10 minutes before the take off. They were pretty understanding, specially the eastern Europeans. Also, a little bit of charm teks one a long way.

^ I could never do that! Way too chicken-ish to even try!

that something part was what i had talked about with my friends. :~)

sara maza kharab kar diya :stuck_out_tongue:

well the only Free travel I ever had was from Karachi to Lahore on a Jump seat. It was an Emergency & my uncle (who is a Pilot in PIA) put me on the plane without much problem.

You are right about free travels in 70s & 80s ... I know someone in my family who was famous of doing that ... he was caught couple of times but didn't stop until the computerized system was introduced.

Interesting stories I must say :-) My most exciting 'travel' experiences were during school in Zambia. We used to go on school trips and it was the most fun I've ever had.

In my first year in highschool we went to Kafue National Park, one of the largest national parks in Zambia. The memories are so vivid, even though I was only 13. We went with our entire class to this absolutely beautiful, untouched natural wildlife game reserve - it's the closest I've ever been to nature. We stayed in chalets and every morning we were up at 5 am to go for 'game drives' in these open 4X4s. And we went for game drives in the evening too, and then sit beside the fire when we came back. The most exciting game drive was when we followed a female leopard and watched her go for a kill, she chased a kudu, strangled it, went straight for the jugular and all this blood came gushing out. We were about 10 feet away from her. The next morning we were out in this open field where there was a pride of lions and these two cute cubs started chasing our jeep, it was quite scary since we were sitting in the back out in the open. On our way back we saw the carcass of a hippo. I've never been so close to a hippo in my life, it was absolutely massive and its eyes had been eaten out by vultures. It smelt like death. If you guys don't know, hippos are the most dangerous animal and the most likely to kill a human.

Our camp site was on the Kafue River and we also used to go fishing. then we'd bring back the fish and braai it (bbq).

During this trip me and 2 of my best friends almost got expelled from school. I must admit I was quite naughty in school, and I won't go into details about it. :-)

I've been to Kruger National Park and other commercial national parks, but nothing quite compares to the real Africa.

The following year we went to Kapisha Hot Springs, which were literally hot springs in the middle of nowhere - it was absolute bush! Every morning we used to get up really and go swimming in the hot springs, it was so amazing, the soft sand between your toes and the water literally bubbling through the sand. While we were there we did a combat course, were put into teams and basically really ruffed it out. 5km jogs every morning.

Those were the best years of my life.

When we lived in Botswana and even Zambia we often used to make trips to the Victoria Falls (border of Zimbabwe and Zambia). A big group of family friends. Its one of the 7 wonders of the world and you really cant compare Niagara Falls to it. Its the most beautiful thing ever. And I've been to the Victoria Falls 3 times and I never tire of it. The very first time we went I was about 5-6 years old and I still clearly remember getting soaking wet and staying in a caravan out in the open. At night we could even hear lions roaring.

It's just one of my main passions in life to explore the rest of Africa in-depth. I hope to make a documentary one day, the natural beauty, combined with culture and history is really something else.

Cat woman :k:
Excellent read. Hope u’ll get to see the ‘rest’ of Africa
