The greater part of Al-Baqarah was revealed during the first two years of the Holy Prophet’s life at Al-Madinah. The smaller part which was revealed at a later period has been included in this Surah because its contents are closely related to those dealt with in this Surah. For instance, the verses prohibiting interest were revealed during the last period of the Holy prophet’s life but have been inserted in this Surah. For the same reason, the last verses (284-286) of this Surah which were revealed at Makkah before the migration of the Holy Prophet to AI-Madinah have also been included in it.
The Prophet:saw: used to recite the Qur’an before angel Jibreel (Gabriel) once every Ramadan, but he recited it twice (in the same order we have today) in the last Ramadan before his death. Jibreel also taught the Prophet :saw: the seven modes of recitation.
is this really an issue? does anyone with a sane mind really believe a holy book would promise 72 virgins for martyrdom?
same token, if someone believes it does, there's nothing you can say or do to prove it ain't so. They didn't dislike islam beause of the 72 virgin promise - they like the 72 virgin promise because they want to hate islam.
I dont have to prove that my friend. Quran is protected by Allah. You and I both believe that… (I hope in your case :)). There is a reason there is classification for Ahadith’s..like Sahih, gharib, etc…because they can be misunderstood by the person narrating it to the compiler or vice versa. There is no such classification for Quran.
BTW, did you even read the ayath I quoted? It clearly states that Allah has the knowledge of day of judgement…So why will I prophet:saw: go against word of Allah. I am not questioning Muhammad:saw:, I am questioning the so called sahih hadith? If Muhammad’s:saw: life was according to Quran as we believe, why will he contradict word of Allah by making prophecies about the day of judgement?
Sadiyah, sometimes when I read hadith’s like these, I’m shocked at how they can be classified as saheeh, when the supposed criterion for throwing out wrong hadith’s was if they contradicted the Quran, and putting anything that is NOT MENTIONED in the Quran on the side as classified “Uh, yeah we dont know if this is right or wrong”.
I thought Saheeh hadith have full support from the Quran.
So, I’m kinda concerned with all the statements that the people who classified and sorted the hadith came up with an excellent scientific method (side note).
To top it off, I’m also very confused, because I’ve seen muslim scholars deny that this is a myth and suicide bombers don’t know what they’re talking about as they say they will be getting 72 virgins, because there is no such reward as promised to martyrs.
Plus, I’m also confused as to the nature of these hoors - as someone in this very thread mentioned like on page 1 or 2 - that these hoors are not necessarily women as we would think of them, but that they are companions and servants. I also once opened a thread long ago on hoors, and I remember someone once saying that there is no evidence that these hoors are human women, but that they could just be spiritual companions and there is no way for us to know what their nature would be.
I just kinda get annoyed when I hear of all these virgins waiting for the men when they get to heaven. What the hell do we women get?
I tell you what, if I am lucky enough to go to heaven, I will have you one of my hoors, having me can be no less than 72 men. Ha ha ha. J/k of course, PCG, men are not going to get 72 virgins or hoors so rest easy. If you go to heaven, you will get whatever you want. Are you sure you want 72 men...they will be telling you what to do all the time...
