Does anyone know where the whole 72 Virgins thing comes from? I’d like to know who the imbecile was that decided to spread this sick fantasy and pass it off as Islamic.
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
i first heard it from non-muslims who were against islam and i was shocked and had no answer. i still dont know.
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
It was narrated that al-Miqdaam ibn Ma’di Yakrib said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The martyr has six blessings with Allaah: he will be forgiven from the first drop of blood shed; he will be shown his place in Paradise; he will be protected from the torment of the grave; he will be safe from the greater terror; a crown of dignity will be placed on his head, one ruby of which is better than this world and everything in it; he will be married to seventy-two wives from al-hoor al-‘iyn; and he will intercede for seventy of his relatives.”
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1663; Ibn Maajah, 2799; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
Hoor aleiyn, are not FOR PLEASURE.
They are SERVANTS of you. NOT YOUR SEX MATES.
Hoor aleiyn also consist of Young boys, who aserver you. Do you want them as your sex mate too?
This concept of Hoors being man's sex mate, is VERY wrong. They are only servants that do WHATEVER you want them to.
You would not want a hoor over YOUR wife who will be 10x more beautiful then a hoor.
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
^but the hadith says martyr will be married to 72 wives
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
Sheraz, that is the reason we should stick to Quran for these matters. It is not stated anywhere in the quran, no number given at all. So we should take Quran's word. One of the ways to authenticate hadith is (my father taught me this) is to look for a refrence in quran. See if the Quran has mentioned/discussed such issue. If you find related information but not the same (as in numbers, names etc) than take Quran and ayath and safely neglect the hadith.
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
And what is the authenticity level of the hadith?
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
** Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1663; Ibn Maajah, 2799; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.**
It’s a saheeh hadith and al-Albaani is very famous when it comes to classing ahadith.
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
Saheeh - an authentic hadeeth, a hadeeth of the highest level of authenticity. It is an authority in Islaamic law.
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
I thought hadith were the teachings or wordings of the Prophet (pbuh), why would Quran have a semblence? unless ofcourse Prophet lived strictly according to Quran (which we know is not true), since Quran was revealed in parts and life had to go on, just a logical way of looking at it.
If 72 is not mentioned in Quran, then sorry kids we’ve been had. Thats why I dont believe in any Hadith. Then again who am I do discuss these Islamic issues. I am a non practicing non-muslim of Qadiyani descent.
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
Verizon, I will not go as far as to say "I dont believe in any hadith". There are many hadiths that can be authenticated using the above method. Will I use it as my source to form a decision related to a complictaed issue? I am afraid not. I will rely on Quran to guide me.
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
Very Illogical way of applying a logic.
He:saw: lived by Quran his whole life as quran itself confirms it.
Show me an event where Prophet:saw: went against then revealed Quran?
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
AQ, issue is not Prophet’s :saw: life or him living his lif eaccording to Quran. The issue is authenticity of Hadith. You can always cast shadows of doubts on the sayings and how they were compiled. Allah has given us one gaurantee and that is regarding Quran…so stick with it and use it as your guide. Leave the rest to Allah…everything will turn out peachy :), Insh-a- ALLAH.
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
^ what is your criteria for proving that a verse of the Qur'an is "authentic"?
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
Gupguppy, it does not matter what my criteria is..Its word of Allah...Its a matter of faith. If you dont believe in Islam, I will not expect you to understand.
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
Kaleem bhai jaan: That is the reason, I quoted something when writing that up, actually answering to that quote alone.
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
Kaleem... good, then using your non-argument one can say that believing in and accepting the Prophet's (saw) hadith, teachings and example and that they have been preserved can also be called a "matter of faith"... and there ends your intellectual criticism of hadith... thank you
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
^his point is that not every hadith is authentic…it wasnt all that hard to understand ![]()
Re: Tracing back the 72 Virgins Lie
^ We are all well aware of the fact that not all ahadith are authentic. Hence, there is a system in place, which is why you will see that most ahadith are classed such as being sahih, gharib, mawdu/da'eef and the like.
The scholars of ahadith put in a lot of time and effort in their work. They did the best they could to authenticate and grade ahadith.
